I'll join your room if you start one up. 👍

Cool, I'll only be on for a little bit though, see you there.

Sorry, have to go pick up my brother from work earlier than I thought. Yes my family's all night people :)

It was about as good as a practice session can get last night, had a quite a few fun three way races of 5 laps with Dennis and Welsh, eventually on rainy track at night.
Managed clean 3:46.2, with draft 44.7, of course, Dennis' 44.9 (that I know of) makes it look slow, but with draft here I think anybody under 3:50 can tag along, pretty easily here.

quali, La Sarthe

GTP_CSL: 2:35.600

chorda: 2:35.084
Almost wiped out on tertre rouge (think that's the name) on my qualifyer, a definite case of being thrilled quali doesn't start till sector 2.
Dennis' lap might just be good enough for pole, we'll have to wait and see.

Gonna watch his replay later and see if he has anything to tech me on lines.

It was fun, but night and raining was scary :scared: Completely lost my way on track a couple of times!!

They sound like some good qualifying times there guys. Looks like we'll have to knuckle down if we hope to top them :) Might give it a few more runs tonight with a few minor changes to the car in a bid to get close to you fast guys 👍

Thanks again for showing me the way round last night.

Without saving some full running laps around 46 flat, I really don't have anything to compare them to, Chorda was running about a full second quicker then me right before I decided to qualy, given my bad T1's in wrs, I assume that's the reason he only bested me by half a second.

If you're running good and want to qualy tonight, I should be around most all night, can't do much driving (watching the boy) but I can get on for a qualy, either post in here or PM if you like. (B-specing on PSN, can't see messages there)

Night seemed like it'd be fun in the dry, to much in the rain for me, just couldn't see well enough, ended up driving the wrong way after a spin coming out of dunlop put me on the side road.

I'm just wondering, can someone clarify what is classed as 'track' here? Also, can you take out the green pylons in a few areas, as you can hit them without being dirty (keeping 2 wheels on the rumble strips). I've rarely run this track, so just wondering exactly what is 'Good' 👍 and what is 'Bad' 👎

Join me in my lounge if anyone wishes.

Yeah Nige, good question. I'll post pictures tonight to make it clear but here's a quick run-down:
You only have to worry about the rumblestrips/kerbing. Ignore the solid white lines on the Mulsanne chicanes, they're for traffic. Just make sure you exit the chicanes and end up on the rumble strips.
The only white line you must avoid crossing more than two tires on is the last corner (right) at the end of Mulsanne.

I'll post a video here shortly of one of my qualifying laps from the Lotus series. My lap was using the same guidelines that we'll be using here. It was right on the limit so it'll be a good example.

That's 👍 an awesome lap Wardez. Really clean and nice lines. Well done.
When me and CSL did quali yesterday, I assumed that we used the exact same ruleas as you just stated. 👍

Well, to be honest, my line thru Porsches are terrible, and my approach to indianapolis as well. So don't look there in your serach for lines.. ;)

My best was a 3:44.7 in free run, and 3:45.3 in race, but with no draft.

I felt I actually could've cut off ,5 from my quali run, but as a whole, I'm pretty happy with the time. Especially when keeping in mind that this is a one-shot quali. One big mistake, and you're done, with no 2nd chance to make up for a mistake. It's good fun!

But I doubt it's going to be a good enough run to get pole.

Yeah Chorda, I agree. I did my run tonight with CSL and was hoping to hit a 2'33.xxx, but caution got the better of me and I think I ended up with a 2'35.114, just outside your time. Funny enough, my lap just prior to my real qualifier was a 2'33.8xx, but it was very close to being dirty or clean out of the Porsche esses I believe. It depends how much you want to risk a mistake :)

Best of luck to everyone with this.

Yea, during practice, you can pretty much push as hard as you want. But when in quali, you tend to ease of just a tad early, to stay safe.

And whith my terrible line thru porsches in mind, I can def see a time in the 2:33's.. But is it worth it?

On the other hand, quali is not important at all here, so to risk it and mess up would'nt be the end of the world honestly. Draft will play it's (HUGE) part in this race.

... 3rd week of October?! That's when my birthday is!! What a nice present from PD! They better not delay it...

I'm still shocked at how long this game has been out with no DLC.
Forza isn't even out yet and they have 3 or 4 already scheduled.
PD is really dropping the ball at keeping interest alive, casual interest has already dropped off to the point where it seems GT5 is really only running on hardcore competitors right now (as illustrated anecdotaly by how hard it is to fill a room now).

Har, har!

Yep, I totally agree.
But on the other hand, we all got different perspective when looking at a racing game.
I would never race Forza. I don't think the driving is good enough.
Forza looks great, yes.
Forza got a lot of nice cars (FXX for instance), yes.
Forza got really nice costomization possibilities, yes.
Forza delivers an amazing feeling, and top notch physics that I really think is the most important in a racing game.... no...
(I do now that GT5's physics are in no way perfect, but as good as it gets IMO)

It all depends on each individuals perspective.
I don't say that I'm right, and "they" are wrong, I'm simply stating my point of view.

So for me, Forza 5, 6, 7 can also be out, but I could'nt care less (As long as the difference in physics/handling/feeling is there).

Honestly, the only reason I'd get Forza over GT is the livery editor. But that alone isn't enough for me to drop all that money on an Xbox.

If PD give us some really basic livery editor, where you could choose from a list of different designs (racing strips, etc.), and allow us to colour them with our paint chips, that'd be awesome.

chorda: 2:35.084
GTP_Welsh-Bain: 2:35.114
GTP_CSL: 2:35.701

I watched my replay last night, here's my math that changed my qualifying time. (I think)
39.717
40.857
T2 total: 80.574
Lap: 3:56.275 - 236.275

236.275 - 80.574 = 155.701 - 2:35.701

Sorry for the confusion, I have the replay, and I assume Dennis also has the replay if anyone wants to verify further.

And yes, update and DLC exciting, don't know if I'll be able to buy right away though. :(

Also, a little update on what's considered dirty or not:

You can hit the bollards (green poles) by accident and still be considered clean. But if you're intentionally taking a line that goes through them, it will be dirty.

These things:

So we respect the bollards even after they're knocked down? (Just for my own clarification for the race also.)

It's a very easy track to accidentally cut the lines, so how strict for the race? I don't have a suggestion, just wanting clarification, I assume the same as anywhere else, needing to keep clean always for the race too? (not saying a couple offs over 35 laps is dirty, but 15 time gaining cuts is still a lot imo)

Also, I think all three of us smacked a bollard, the same one on the far left coming into the finish. a very intrusive little bugger that can be hard to get around.

I always wondered if a guy couldn't get off the gas for atleast 5-10 seconds if he over runs or cuts a turn. This could ensure him no penalties. Considering it's not habit

Just a thought I had. Seen a few do similar as to offset any gains.

Depends how much I think I gain from it, I'll hold up depending on the severity of the cut, a mm or two I usually don't worry about, but at Sarthe there's cuts and time everywhere, and the severity can be extreme.

The green bollard rule may invalidate my lap? I was under the impression that 2 wheels on the rumble strip or within the white line was fine, regardless of red cones and green bollards. I certainly wasn't trying to avoid them. :indiff:

That goes for all three of us.
But the only one any of us hit was the far left one at the finish, it's not like we were plowing them down like pedestrians in GTA. :scared:

I don't think there's much time in where we did it, but it's up to Wardez, I don't expect starting position to play a large role this week.

Well I won't revoke the times so we'll just have to modify the rules a bit and make sure every one knows that they can do as you all did. Now if either if you could do me the huge favor of going into the replays and taking a picture of the bollard slaying as an example for every one to see, it would be just perfect - hats for every one.

i think they're talking about the one you hit at the beginning of your lotus lap video

I can't remember hitting any cone or similar during my lap.
BUT I would never guess it was dirty if I did as long as I kept at least 2 wheels on track.

It's much easier to only stay to that rule.
Adding "intentional" or "not intentional" regarding the hitting cones only opens up a gray area.
Just use the 2 wheel rule, and everything will in all cases be crystal clear.

This race is starting to feel like the final race and everyone has a chance at winning the championship so it'll be intense. I see it as a mini 24h race which is probably why its 2.4 hours. Will there be a room open today to try out the draft? Also how is qualifying going? Is it one lap or is it the total time of all the sections minus the first one?

What time would be good for you? I can probably open one up and do some practice with you then.

Qualifying is a one lap race, sector 1 and 2 do not count, which takes you all the way past the first chicane, quali is from Sector 2 to finish. 👍

Will edit in a picture of the bollard in question.
