I'm just wondering after looking through many of the remaining pictures on Twitter - is it me or are they using the same Dead Metal as they were in the original run?

Old news to some, prehaps, but new to me, the 2016 house robots: Sir Killalot, Matilda, Shunt and Dead Metal, the latter three having tripled in weight:

OK. I HAVE to see this show.

Killalot I was intimidating in the day, this one isn't just Killalot II. This is a fusion of Killalot, the T1s from Terminator 3, and Darth Vader, and if I saw it coming at me I'd probably die of fear. The rest looks similar but stronger somehow, though the sawblade on Dead Metal looks a bit flimsy. Any way you look at it though, mission accomplished on these four, and I don't think adding any more would be worth it. I don't recall Cassius Chrome at all, and I thought Growler and Mr. Psycho were just kinda gimmicky.....moreso than the others.

I'm not a massive fan of these reworks. Matilda and Dead Metal look more or less the same but Shunt and Sir Killalot have become far too blocky and angular, they look too much like robots. Sir Killalot now having Darth Vader's head doesn't help either.

IRL, Dead Metal and Sir Killalot look utterly fantastic, trust me. The photos don't quite do them justice. Matilda and Shunt still possess the right amount of evil too, don't worry.

The new rules have been released. Not a huge amount has changed overall. The count-out rule seems a bit ambiguous. In the original series a robot was deemed immobilised when it hadn't moved for an arbitrary amount of time (usually approximately 30 seconds), and then the house robots would close in and finish them off (though in the first two seasons this tended to rather unfairly happen almost immediately), but after RefBot introduced the count-out system from Extreme 1 onwards, they would for immobilised for 30 seconds, and then given 10 seconds to move again before being officially eliminated. With this they're simply knocked out after 10 seconds of not moving, which is not a very long period of time, so you wonder how they'll enforce that.

Style has also been removed from the judging criteria, and aggression now carries the most weight instead of damage, which is probably because these days most robot have flippers, which while they may do some internal damage, they do virtually no cosmetic damage, whereas robots with flywheels, crushing arms and axes do bucket loads of both, but are probably less aggressive.

I love the look the of the new elimination format, having a league-type round sounds fantastic!

Pardon the double post, but I've just discovered the competitor draw and line-up for the new series!

Robots from the original show returning are Behemoth, Razer, Terrorhurtz, Thor, Tough as Nails, Big Nipper, Dantomkia, King B Remix (King B Powerworks), Supernova, Kan-Opener, Sabretooth, Storm 2, Terror Turtle, Chompalot, Infernal Contraption and Thermidor 2!

Killalot I always gave me the impression of a Terminator.

The old Shunt looked like a solid condensed package of destruction. Not a part too bulky.

Even though I absolutely detested Razer during the original run, I'm actually really excited to see a genuine all-star return, with all these flywheels about (something they almost never fought originally) they could be in for a hard time.

Bah, Razer dominance confirmed then. Perhaps.

I wish Hypnodisc and Chaos II came back.

I wish ... Chaos II came back.

Much as a I loved Chaos 2 when I was a kid - it was my favourite robot of all - I hope it doesn't come back. It was hopelessly outclassed by Series 5; nowadays it would be an embarrassment.

I've mentioned this before, but Razer I never liked at the time (partly due to them dismantling Chaos 2 at one point); it's only since I've got older that I've come to appreciate what a work of engineering art that machine is.

The Hypno-Disc team have said they're currently working on getting the robot up to scratch it enter it again. Chaos 2 was retired from combat after the show ended, and even if George Francis did bring it back up to spec it would fail to stand out in a sea of innumerable flipper robots that have copied his design and improved upon it.

Just noticed one of the competitors weights only 45kg...that's sure to go down well.

They probably built that Meccano box for the express purpose of getting ripped to shreds by the opposition. Our good friend Sweeney Todd will probably do as well as Napalm did on the Gauntlet back in The Second War.

I had a feeling it would take the TG slot, trying to give a broader appeal than the old 6pm slot.

I can imagine this is going to be better received by the general public than new Top Gear, machines smashing each other to pieces, what's there not to like!

I want Hypnodisc back... make it happen, somebody!
