So glad this is back, brings back childhood memories of the late 90's early 00's. I loved Hypno-Disc! I can't wait to see what so many years of technological innovation will have done for such a show, there will be so much more scope for weapons, control, armour, power etc.

Any news on who the presenters will be? Somehow I don't think Craig Charles will do it. :indiff: Hammond would have been perfect

...and you know who would be perfect for pit reporter... Liz Bonnin from Bang Goes The Theory.

Hypnodisc was a flywheel. A flywheel. Just awesome. Hypnodisc vs Chaos 2 S4 Final is a good one for you, daan, if you don't like Hypnodisc...

Refbot can take an EMP up the Aris though. Absolute go away heat.

Advice on battles to watch.

Wheely Big Cheese vs Axe Awe
Thermidor 2 vs Behemoth vs Stinger
Northern Annihilator round 1
Hypno Disc vs Splinter
Dantomkia vs Chaos 2
X-Terminator vs Tsunami vs Major Tom vs Diabolus
X-Terminator vs Tsunami
Terrorhurtz vs SMIDSY
Storm 2 vs Steel Avenger
Dantomkia vs Wild Thing vs 13 Black
Typhoon 2 vs Iron Awe 2.1

I'll be hoping to see Razer come back and dominate. As soon as I first saw that robot I fell in love with it. Sleek, evil and my god did it look fantastic when it won and spread its wings in victory.

Was also a fan of Thermidor 2, had one hell of a flipping arm IIRC.

I loved the sound it made when it spun up, that high speed wine  Only problem was that it was way too low to the ground and often flipped itself over when the disc made contact.

The NME wrote an article, they are right about it being a quintessentially British show with it's quirky eccentricity a lot like Scrapheap Challenge had (they need to bring that back next!).

Refbot could be a pain but having him there really sorted the others out. Before him if you went anywhere near a house robot it was a death sentence, and you'd be counted as immobilised either because they did so unfairly, or because you were just swamped by them. In later years all they did was get in the way because half the competitors' robot were better than them, especially Shunt.

Refbot was useless until they put the timer on. It was a way of officially eliminating a botwhen they were dead.

If there is one thing that would just complete this, it would be seeing his man complete with his version of the Spandau Ballet Jacket.

Razer is rumoured to be returning, and possibly Hypno-Disc too...
Surely updated though? Computing power has become about 10x better since the last show so they will be out of date on a control board aspect alone.

With computing as it is I wouldn't be surprised if we see robots with damage control systems.

It was a bit commonplace latterly, but I still remember the first time a robot ever righted itself. And it did it with style.

Take a bow, Cassius.

Can't believe it's been so long since that was first broadcasted. Just through what you wrote, memory of that came back to me. 👍

Holy crap, I remember watching the hell out of this on PBS here in the US and loved it. One of my favorite ones was that one with that downward facing blade that sqeezed other robots (I think it was call "Razor").

I always saw it on TLC but never on PBS, man it would have been so much better to see it on PBS.

Razer's original form is a virtually unbeatable design anyway but they've said it would be updated. The weaponry is more than adequate but the internal components would need to be updated, especially since it's notoriously unreliable. Hypno-Disc would need to be an order of magnitude stronger to cause any damage to modern robots, since even in its final season it was struggling to cause any significant damage.

Razer have entered a slightly updated version. Hypno-Disc isn't able to compete this series, but they'll be ready if there is a second series. Other robots like Dantomkia, Behemoth and Storm 2 have applied.

It occurs to me that Lewis and Scott might end up making the mistake they made in BattleBots, when they entered a mostly-untouched Warhead and then got snookered by armour and magnets. I also remember reading somewhere that Razer's chassis isn't in much of a fighting state these days.

I suppose that they are more than capable of learning from their mistakes when it comes to building a fighting robot, but I can't shake that nigglng feeling that they've not done much more than just replacing the bits that they needed to in order to make the 'bot arena-worthy again.

Razer have said that the robot will be rebuilt and updated slightly. They're not making the same mistake again.

I really do hope not. Razer was my favourite robot in the original run of Robot wars and I am itching to see them score crushing victories in the Eighth Wars and beyond.

I hope we get the new wars in the US. It's been too long, and I haven't understood why it was taken off TV all those years ago. Razer was/is the best, but the battles were rarely a letdown for me no matter who and whatever season. Speaking of...

I never saw it on TLC. Extremes and such I saw on Spike/TNN, but PBS was a big part of my childhood, and it was made soooo much better by The Red Green Show, Robot Wars (Craig only, happily missed the Clarkson series), and then Red Dwarf, maybe Faulty Towers if I could stay up that late.

That said, I know the straight fights are great, but even as a kid I thought the elimination challenges from the first few seasons were a cool idea, if only they were better. I wouldn't mind seeing them return as long as they are a serious challenge. While I'm at it, I'd like to see the floor simplified; Pit, Flipper, possibly a flaming grate, and maybe the drop zone if you just have to have gratuitous destruction.

Sorry, I'll go back to lurking now.

Due to Craig Charles being tied up with Red Dwarf XI and Philippa Forrester not really doing TV anymore, there is a new presenting duo.

Dara O'Briain will be the new host, and Angela Scanlon is the pit reporter. Luckily, Jonathan Pearce has agreed to skip 2 weekends of football to resume his place as commentator.

Whilst I would have obviously liked Craig they certainly could have picked a LOT worse than Dara, like some of the clowns that have presented on The Gadget Show over the years. Pretty happy with him.

Dara is a good shout, he's a funny guy and into tech stuff so it's perfect. He is great on Mock The Week and Stargazing Live. I don't know who the girl is but fair play they could have done much worse. Better than the Top Gear selection

Dara is great choice, love how quickly its all taking shape, series will start in no time!
