I am hyped for this.

I also really want a modern pc game now the series has come back. That would be ace.

I remember one I had on the PS2 (arenas of destruction?), that was quite a bit of fun, especially battling against my brother. :)

One thing I do remember is that the camera wasn't the best, you could easily lose track of where you were on some of the more complex arenas (oil rig springs to mind) but yes, I would love to see a more up-to-date game.

I have been trying to find that somewhere as my disk had been scratched horrendously and thus didn't work, but all I can find is the disk on Amazon and they are asking a fortune for it.

I would have assumed it would be freeware by now as many games of that age are.

This is as good a thread as any, there's a Robot Wars RA2+ Mod for the already brilliant and now-free Robot Arena 2. Well worth checking out to tide you over for the time being. A load of the robots in the new series are in it as AI as they've been on the Live Event scene for a while. It's a great warmup!

That works I guess. Flippers are OP in it though.

We need this game back!!

We need a game that's glitch-free, that was the problem with all the old ones.
That too. It always confused me as a kid why the glass bit of the Tokyo arena acted as a CPZ but only to you in AoD.
To make things worse opponents could go over it and you would be the one chased.

Robot Wars/House Robots are on The One Show tonight right now. Bit of promotion I should imagine.

Was the bit where they smashed Matt Baker's BFG picture one of the most ball-curdlingly bad bits of television ever? I think it was.

Will be recording it and watching it at 9pm because it clashes with the Darts final on Sky Sports.

Do we have to use spoiler tags? If you are reading this thread then I would hope you have seen it or don't care.

Also is it me or does it feel slightly off compared to the original series?

Carbide is amazing, the amount of power that blade has, i'm surprised it doesn't rip itself apart though on each attack.

Don't see why we would, we discuss anything else in the open as it happens across the board.

It seems like Razor weren't really bothered, they didn't exactly put a lot of effort into making sure they didn't go down. Perhaps to avoid any embarrassment against the new blood.

Things were clearer for the VS battles but I think the editing on the 4-way needs work, found it rather hard to follow with the low angles behind the glass and quick cuts in general.

It's definitely different, modernised, and most changes were fine but I was missing the music throughout.

Yeah I'm getting that too. The bright lights and the very clean, elegant arena make it look a bit too much like an obvious game show. The old scrapyard/submarine look of the original arena looked amazing, but Carbide would have torn it to shreds.

My God the robots are so strong! Hypno-Disc is nowhere near Carbide's level, and the robots stood up exceptionally well to it. I didn't necessarily want Razer to win the heat, but even though I used to hate them I'm very disappointed that they didn't make it through to the 2nd round, where they could faced Behemoth for the third time, Terrorhurtz for the second, and then get completely destroyed by Carbide.

Pretty much all over the robots seemed to be out of control, it was mostly glancing blows, Terrorhurtz was driven exceptionally well though.

The format does bother me a little, I would have been very happy for it to return exactly as it was, it feels too much like every other game show on TV at the moment.

However, it's Robot Wars, I can't believe it's back, and it will always be nothing less than perfection for me.

The round robin system just seems like it's solely to stretch things out to an hour. I doubt the teams are too happy with it either, more battles means more damage and repairs.

Razer were actually flicked in by Kill-E-Krank-E spinning their wheels, which pivoted Razer in. They were fine until there was grip.

Yeah, some of the cameras were off, and the Round Robin battles did get cut about a bit, but I still really enjoyed it. Carbide is a dangerous bot!

Presenters were both good I thought, always liked Dara and some of his quips were funny. Angela did the pit reporter role well, got stuck in.
