I think it's not that second gear is that short, but first is very long But you are right, first and second are almost the same size...

I don't get why this is even a valid question. I mean obviously the s7 IRL has these ratios so the in game version is the same.

Better acceleration? That's apparently why some cars now have 8 gears (each one getting shorter) in comparison to 3 or 4 years ago.

Maybe it's for usability. Like first is short enough to take off and drive slowly without lugging it down too much (irl talk here) and second can launch it nice and hard without just spinning the tires too much.
It sounds crazy but look at other supercats.

Well in real life 1st gear is 2.86:1 and second is 1.61:1 . That means that there should be a difference of 37 mph between 1st and second.. I think the problem is the fact that 3rd gear jumps all the way to 1.14:1 making 2nd appear short but in reality the gap between 2nd and 3rd is quite large, then 3-4-5-6 evens out again..
3rd: 1.14:1
4th: 0.96:1
5th: 0.81:1
6th: 0.64:1

With all this being said, 1st gear is probably a "city" or "hill" gear.. (Even tho it will take you to 63mph) Then when your on a track or a good ol stop light you would probably launch in 2nd.. Hope this makes sense
