This is Enceladus, one of Saturn's moons and what looks like outgassing as the sun heats the surface.

Can Cassini launch giant tablets of Gaviscon at the moon?

It didn't make CNN because it doesn't have to do with:

- War
- Disaster
- Attacking the president
- Or something to that affect

It didn't make Fox News because it didn't have to do with:

- War
- Disaster
- Praising the President
- Something to that affect

But thats cool and hell!

Didn't make fox because Fox is owned by Saudi Arabia. Didn't make CNN because it didn't take place on earth.

At 3a.m. they did interupted The game to tell me that the Saddam Hussen trials had resumed and that they were currently editing the live version before airing it. :dopey:

And it didn't make Canadian news because it doesn't deal with the U.S.

I believe I am outgassing also.

 Nice!

So can somebody explain what outgassing is, and it's significance? It certainly looks and sounds interesting.

It's either volcanoes spewing gas into space - which is a sign of significant geological activity, or it's surface material heating up under the sun. It tells planetary geologists more about this moon's internal structure - which gives them a better understanding of how celestial bodies form and gives insight into the age and formation of our solar system. It also helps researchers understand whether they think they'll find an interesting environment on this moon and whether it warrants another mission to study it further.

Europa (one of Jupiter's moons) is thought to have a subsurface liquid water ocean covered by a layer of ice. It is possible that life exists on Europa beneith the surface. This is part of the reason that scientists get so interested in the geology of celestial bodies - the possibility of finding life.

Enceladus (the one in the picture) is icy, but I think the internal structure is still something of a mystery.
