Well maybe I can get the ball rolling!

As Bullie is away on holidays I will throw down a challenge to Kemp. Are you on?
Was going to challenge arvore or JJ (am I having suicidal tendencies?) but you were faster. So challenge accepted! I'm free to do it this evening from approx. 21h00GMT if that's ok for you.

I don't think I can make it tonight. I have to go out and won't be back till later on. I'll switch on when I'm back and if I see you're online I'll contact you.

If not would tomorrow suit? Normally around 22h00 GMT is better for me.

Hi Biggles
I'm in with the new format, and if nobody want to challenge me then I could have another go at alan. How about that alan, are you up for that.It has to be friday or saturday evening or night.

After missing each other for a couple of nights myself and Kemp managed to hook up and run our challenge.

Kemp won the first race (Infineon) with a good steady drive while I made a couple of mistakes on lap 1 which left with too much to do. After that I managed to win the next 4 races, mainly, by minimising mistakes while Kemp was unfortunate to be making them.

As usual, it was good clean and an enjoyable nights racing. Cheers Kemp!

I had the most enjoyable evening ,last night, racing with JJ.:)👍

Of course that didn't mean I won...:sly: Jeff did,as expected, but actually things were more close than I'd thought...:dopey:

As a true sportsman, Jeff, allowed me to pick up one of my favourite cars in the game,at the moment, the Beautiful and unfortunately under rated F50:idea: -steady,good brakes ,not too slow, predictable, great sound and awesome looks what else can one ask?

I chose Monza,Vallelunga and Silverstone GP.Jeff chose Montreal and Spa.
We skipped the warm up and went to Monza with cold tyres and that was probably the reason why Jeff got a couple of penalties and left me the win.:)

After in Vallelunga the story repeated itself(my strategy of sweet talking Jeff in between races was working so far):lol::lol:;)

At Montreal Jeff sailed off for an easy win, which some penalties from my end made his job even easier.:guilty::O

Than at Silverstone and Spa I did my best to catch him but that is beyond my skills so Jeff took a deserved win in both.👍

Congratulations to Jeff and again thanks for a very enjoyable racing and cheat chatting night.

SO NOW I'm AVAILABLE FOR THE KILL BY THOSE STARVING WOLVES CLIMBING UP THE LADDER,BRING IT ON FELLAS:trouble: *hides and runs for cover*

Yes, I had really nice time as well. 👍 Great racing and interesting conversation in the lobby between every round. My suggestions for the car were totally off the wall. I thought about cars which I normally never drove: The (1994) 512M (Evolution of the Testa Rosa), the 348 TB, and then in the opposite direction, the F50 GT and 599FX. I hadn't actually driven any of these cars for as long as I can remember. But since one of Arvore's choices was the F50 road car, I thought it was a good compromise. Had I known it was one of his 'favorite cars' I might have been more skeptical or suspicious.

The first race at Monza was really a throw away race for me. I nailed the first chicane and managed to pull out an immediate lead. The 2nd chicane was even for both of us. But I then braked much too early for the first Lesmo (losing nearly 1 full second of my lead) and then over compensated and braked much too late for the 2nd Lesmo, took to the grass and Arvore went sailing past. He also put in a good, solid race with a quick pace and free from any serious mistakes. So right there, one could argue that I lost the first race on the 4th corner. But in truth, I wasn't that far behind and what really killed it for me were horrible lag problems and random screen freezes (3-4 times on every lap). :grumpy: There was simply no way I could drive like this, or at least not fast enough to catch up.

After the first round I rebooted the PS3 and to my relief the problem went away and then it was game on. Sort of. At least there was no more lag or screen tearing. But at the next round from Vallelunga, Arvore simply out drove me, plain and simple. About 1/2 way through the race, realizing that I was in serious trouble, I switched from my normal dash view (for which I found the strange dark blue tint from the F50 to be extremely distracting and inhibiting) and began to drive in bonnet view. The effect was like taking off a pair of sun glasses in a dark room and finally being able to see. And at this point, I suddenly found myself coming to grips with the car and was able to turn things around. But not enough. I managed to close the gap (at one point as high as 5-6 seconds) down to less than 0.5 at the finish line. But as an awful and overpaid actor once said, "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winnings Winning!" And so it was 2-0.

Arvore graciously suggested we go to Montreal for the 3rd round and I knew it was do or die for me. I don't know what it is about this track. It's not really my favorite but I just seem to have a good rhythm there. And combined with a few penalties/errors from Arvore, I won this round by a mile, rather than an inch. OK, maybe not that much. ;)

The next round was Silverstone and I was seriously worried. But I was quickly coming to grips with this car (I like it) and after the last F355 race, I found that I'm not quite as intimidated by the U.K.'s premiere track as I once was. The race was close and I had to really push but I managed to stay ahead and at the finish line the gap was about 3 seconds.

The final round from Spa was the showdown. Visions of my last failed challenge with Biggles from this track kept flashing through my head and as the count down clock was running I found myself twitching and convulsing. (OK, not really but it makes for a more dramatic story). The truth is, by the time Spa rolled around, I found myself really dialed in to the F50. I really like the car, although I personally feel it's just much too grippy for a road car. It handles and performs like a racing car with MUCH better handling and brakes than cars like the McLaren or even the Enzo. And I think it's wrong. But it is fun to drive and extremely forgiving. By the 3rd lap, I had managed to pull out a gap of several seconds. But I knew on the previous lap I was dangerously close to getting a penalty through Eau Rouge. And sure enough, this time around, I got slammed and Arvore went sailing past me down the Kemmel. And I saw everything slip through my fingers. But he wasn't that far ahead and under pressure, he outbraked himself a bit into Fanges and I got around him. From there, I just tried to take it quickly but conservatively to the finish line.

Ironically, just seconds after we returned to the lobby, Arvore was booted. What a relief it happened after the race was over. None-the-less, I'm afraid we're both down to 1 star status after twice having to quit after forgetting to make sure we had a default livery on the car. But it's a small price to pay for a very enjoyable evening.

Nice racing, very close, good fun! Thanks for the Challenge.

Biggles: I guess we're on next. But I'll have to get back to you as to when.

Actually, I'm really waiting for the challenge from Vompatti, so that things can "sort themselves out" appropriately.

I see we have been relegated to "has-beens" in the Classics forum. :(

Actually, I'm really waiting for the challenge from Vompatti,

As my personal circumstances have changed, I don't quite know what would be the "wise" thing to do with your League. I think I could challenge you if you would be available this weekend, but after that I have to pack my wheel away. Even though I won't pack my PS3 just yet, I'll keep it as long as possible for movies, music and some random gaming, but I will pack my wheel and "rig" sooner and I won't be online racing until october. So how does this effect to your plans for the coming 4-player group races? I can't participate in events on september, so I understand if you need to remove me from the list.

Fancy a classic, cool, exclusive and charming challenge from me?

Sure Derek,bring it on man.👍

Maybe we can do it later on(I usually get online about 12.00 pm).

EDIT:

...but after that I have to pack my wheel away...

Maybe You could try and have a go at SCC with a pad Lassi-people say it is easier.:p:p:D;):sly:

Haha, for sure it wouldn't be easy for me! I better not come to a track and ashame myself with the pad :p And once you get used to a wheel, you know, you never go back.. :)

But I have to say that I did consider that too, but unfortunately in SCC there isn't my favorite button layout from FC (gas&brake on R2/L2, gear up&down R1/L1) and all the other layouts are terrible for me.

Kemp - want to do a challenge? (I'm pretty free today) I contacted Bullie77 and our schedules just couldn't line up, so that's off.

Challenge accepted! I'll be online later at approx. 21h00gmt or maybe a bit earlier, we'll see...:sly:

Here's a quick report on my challenge to Kemp:

F40

Nurburgring - Kemp jumped out to an early lead and I kept him at around 2.5 seconds most of the race. I was unable to close the gap and Kemp went on to win.

Paul Ricard - Things were close for much of this race. Kemp got out to an early lead but ran wide and I was able to pass. Close racing until I missed a shift on the start/finish straight and Kemp again passed me, holding on to victory. (Don't know why, but I decided to try the H-shifter instead of paddles. I think in slower transmissions it might be faster? thoughts)

Infineon - Back to paddle shifters for this one. Kemp had a mistake or two and I went on to victory.

Vallelunga - Another great, close race. Kemp led for a couple of laps, went wide and I took the lead. After some hard pushing by Kemp, he made a nice pass on the last lap to take a well deserved victory in the race and challenge.

VIR - Obviously for fun, I was able to take home one more victory thanks to Kemp going off.

Kemp 3, Plckr00 2

Congrats to Kemp! Very enjoyable racing for sure.
