Poor Nico, off to join Brundle, Herbert, Irvine and Verstappen I see.

I hope Brawn is sensible and at least allows them to fight till its not possible for one or the other to win, rather than siding with his old pal Michael and asking for some special favours with Todt.

I think Rosberg is underrated as a driver. I think all he needed is a great car and will prove himself this year.

I don't see how this article directly infers (at least with any validity) that Rosberg will be the number 2 driver, and that there won't be teammate equality within Brawn/Mercedes :odd:

Ross Brawn simply believes Schumacher has what it takes to be Champion in 2010...this doesn't mean he automatically has an advantage or priority within Brawn/Mercedes.

Personally, I think you guys are just assuming things at this point, based off things that happened in the past which don't hold a whole lot of merit given the situation today.

Ross could be a little more diplomatic with his comments though (he normally is actually), he could easily have said "I reckon our drivers are the best to win the championship, especially Schumacher" and it would have come off a little better.

By not mentioning Nico at all, not even with a "but lets not forget Nico, I think he will push Michael all the way" comment, gives the implication he has already chosen a favourite.

I don't think Ross will force Rosberg to play number 2 but neither would I be surprised if he had more faith in the man he helped to 7 world championships over a driver yet to win a race.

Of course, the media could easily have "accidentally" missed off anything Ross said about Rosberg to help make it seem this way though.

Sorry but what would you think/say if Whitmarsh said "Lewis will be champion" ?

What would you say if Domenicalli said "Alonso will be champion" ?

What would you say if Horner said "Vettel will be champion" ?

What do you think such statements would mean for

- Button
- Massa
- Webber

?

Fair enough.

And I can't blame him for having a lot more faith in the man who he has helped to 7 WDC, over one who has yet to win a race or show any truly impressive performances.

Those are different situations, within teams that have SHOWN that both drivers are capable of winning WDC (to a lesser extent Webber)

Of course Ross Brawn is going to have more confidence in Schumacher's ability to win than Rosberg. One has taken home 7 WDC and won close to 100 race, while the other has yet to win a race, has only finished 7th in points at best, and hasn't really shown many, if any flashes of brilliance. That's just Ross speaking his mind and the simple, logical truth, in which he BETS Schumacher will be the 2010 WDC. Uninspiring as it might be to Mr. Rosberg, it still doesn't label him the number 2 driver at a unfair disadvantage as you imply.

This is a very short summary and not the full interview, he didn´t say it like it sounds here!

The source is the German Newspaper "Bild", there he also said that he believes that Rosberg have what you need to be WC. Then he was asked:

BILD: In dieser Saison fahren vier Weltmeister: Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button und Schumi. Wer von ihnen holt 2010 den Titel?

Brawn: „Wenn ich auf einen von ihnen wetten müsste, sage ich klipp und klar: Michael wird Weltmeister.“

In English:

Bild: This season 4 world champions will participate in the WC: Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Schumacher who of them will win 2010 the title?
Brawn: If I had to bet on one of them I would bet on Schumacher.

http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/motor...umacher/wird-weltmeister-sagt-ross-brawn.html
---------------------------------------------------------

That´s all. So just wait and see, I hope Rosberg can show us that he really is a WC candidate.

Typical British press, taking everything out of context. I'm surprised it's Jon Noble doing it on this occasion; he usually doesn't go in for that. Brawn is simply offering his opinion that he thinks Schumacher is a dead cert for the title, but nowhere does it say Nico Rosberg is going to suffer for it. The British pressare just adding that in through the way the articles are written.

I heard that Schumacher and Ross Brawn want Schumi to be Number 3 instead of 4, because "He doesn't like even numbers". Their already favouring him before the season has started.

"Typical British press"? Yes, because only us Brits do that :yuck:👎

OP quotes Autosport, a British publication. So who am I supposed to refer to? "Typical Lithuanian press, always taking things out of context"? "Typical Cameronnian press, always taking things out of context"? "Typical Incan press, always taking things out of context"?

that was mentioned in the german yellow press too... I GUESS Michael just asked whether he could get no.3...and MAYBE Nico doesn't care if no.3 or 4....but thats GUESSING and MAYBEING...LOL

I just had a short look in my crystal ball.....SCHUMI will snatch the title..close before Vettel in second and Hamilton or Button in third...
It's a pitty that Alonso drives Ferrari...I guess he won't have a chance with that car...

You don't need to make such a comment at all, how on earth is it relevant? The "typical" bit especially grates, like you are suggesting a Spanish publication, for example, would never spin a story, but its "typical" for British publications to do so.
Taking things out of context happens in all forms of media in all countries, I don't think my country is "typical" for doing so.

If I was Rosberg I would have hung on to that number 3 as if my life depended on it. Schumacher wanting it would be all the reason I'd need to deny it to him.

Indeed, the psychological warfare starts now.

Considering how much he was able to get out of the Renault these last 2 years, I think Alonso will do just fine in a Ferrari.

Well one thing's for sure: this will be the test of Rosberg's career. You're in the same car as Mr. 7-time champ. Show us that you're faster than he.

Indeed, quite a jump for Rosberg really, from beating average teammates in average cars, to having to prove he's better than arguably the best F1 driver of all time. Especially considering he was originally looking to be fighting Button, which would have been a slightly smaller step up.
Regardless of that, he's possibly going to be getting a championship-worthy car for the first time, may be a bit of a repeat of 2009 in that respect (though Button had the great BARs, which were better than the last few Williams').

I think he will struggle with the pressure for some of the season and won't be a championship contender but I think he will win his first race. Top 8 WDC position at the end of the year. (all assuming the W01 is top 4 material)
