That's fine if it's functional. But did they have to make it look so... Garish? So obvious?

Maybe they're just testing it out before finalizing a shape. The sti wing doesn't really fit the shape of the car. The car is laid back and subdued while the wing is kinda wild and out there.

And it very well could. Being Subaru powered, their 4WD transmission would be a bolt-in job effectively.

250hp 1200kg AWD coupe? Yes plz.

Definitely yes please. Is it actually confirmed that the car will be selling under both banners? That would certainly be a first...toyota and subaru selling the same body....

-> Here's something new:

^ Going toe-to-toe with the legendary Supra! Hmm, its better to re-release the JZA80 Supra and dump this FT to either Subaru or Scion...

-> Aaaaanndd, since the Supra carries the prototype manufacturer plates; why not re-release the Supra altoghter!

:sly:

Wouldn't it be awesome if this whole FT-86 thing was just Toyota's way of keeping us entertained while they secretly revive the Supra?

What, do you expect them to go "O hai guyz, btw we can haz new Supra!" at the launch event for the FT-86? I mean, it would be incredibly awesome, but that's so far from possible, it's not even funny
Either way, we'll probably see it released as a Scion in the US and a Toyota in Europe and that's that.

AWD for the Subaru would make sense, I think, by the way. It'd differntiate the cars from each other, so there'd be more reason than just looks to pic one of the two.
And, well, I can't imagine a sporty Subaru without an AWD system, to be quite honest. I'll sure as hell be interested to see which one's faster around the track, too :D

If they did introduce the Supra again, think GTR level cash required to get one.

It makes more sense for them to release this as a Scion then a Toyota. People going to the Toyota dealer most likely will not be cross shopping, Camry, Corolla, or rear wheel drive sport coupe?

Do we know for sure the Subaru version will be AWD? Because according to Subaru and the below "concept" they made to showcase the drivetrain the car will have, it only shows it being RWD...

No, it was always a RWD car.

Subaru said they can make it AWD, but they'd have to change the design because AWD would raise the engine up.

AWD would either raise the engine or... if they didn't want to do this, move the front wheels rearward. Neither of which would be good for the handling balance.

Supra. Meh. A twin-turbo 2.0 or 2.5 Subie boxster already matches the old Supra's output (though probably not with the same bajillion horsepower potentail when modified) while taking up less underhood space.

If they're benchmarking the car against a Supra, it's a fair bet that they're testing the turbo engines to see how quick the car can be.

I can see it now. N/A version $22k, Turbo version, $30k.
Though from the video, I'm not exactly sure how you can determine whether it's boosted or not. They never rev high enough, in my opinion.

wait, nevermind, subrau said ages ago the car will not be sold in turbo trim.

Just doesn't have all the right sounds. And the one time you can hear the car when they get on it pretty good, the car doesn't scoot like a turbo car.

In Cali. Though I'm more interested in that 4th gen maxima up ahead with the super secret sauce black bumper.:nervous:

Hmm....

Nurburgring car = wing, big exhaust, bigger wheels = performance version?

California car = no wing or spoiler, smaller exhaust, boring wheels = base version?

Since it's a scion there is only one version of the car, though manual or auto, with everything else being a dealer installed option. So the winged car is simply an optioned out car.
I just had a look at the scion site and the base tC manual costs $19k, I don't see how this car can cost less than $23k.

Putting this car with a dying/dead brand like scion was a huge mistake. I will be testing the subby as soon as its on the lot but Im not going anywhere near those bastards at scion with their pure pricing (imho that carries major weight being Im the type who buys cars instead of financing, ie my current civic si).

I don't know about where you live, but here in Phoenix Scions are everywhere. I also see at least a couple new TC's on my way to and from work each day, so they seem to be selling pretty well. Honestly anything that comes from Toyota/Honda these days is pretty boring so Scion may have been the right choice there. (even though I would prefer it have a Toyota badge) I can see the Subaru version pulling a premium over the FR-S as well.

Edit: @ Tornado: Yeah, I guess you're right.

This.

what? I'm not a scion fan by any stretch but this is toyota we're talking about. They have huge plans for scion, according to they're plans last year.

While Scion is clearly on a down turn, I wouldn't consider them dying or dead until they mess up two generations in the row. Their launch was big success. tC was acceptable. Their critical mistake was second gen. xB.

Personally, I'd love to see the Scion badged version of this car, because one thing about Scion, they are affordable. I'm not sure what you mean by financing, as you don't ever have to worry about dealer mark up or trade-in rip-off per Scion policy. Financing, it's available from any bank you choose.

Or you can do what I did - buy a Toyota Certified Pre-owned tc for 5 grand off list price when it's only a year old with 20k miles :)

I'm not a big fan of the pure pricing thing, but either way scions are still affordable. Personally I think that toyota won't let scion fail. God knows toyota has the finances.

PurePricing means you get the car at what price? MSRP? Invoice? Actual price?
MSRP. MSRP is set low, but it is non-negotiable. You won't get ripped off, but you won't get a bargain either.

For your trade in, they will give you blue book value, which is pretty high. In normal sales negotiation, dealer tend to start offer at very low value for your trade in.

Whichever way works for you. I'm not saying set price is the way to go. Pro's & Con's can be found in whichever way. If you know how to deal, you will more than likely pay more with set pricing, obviously.
