Has anyone bothered to notice the power specs on this thing?

200 hp at 7000 rpm, with 151 torques (not bad) at 6600 rpm.

I realize it's quite a bit more powerful than my Rex, but I'm curious how much of that torque is churned out at 4000 rpm. My engine makes 140 torques at 4000, peak, and is perfectly drivable at any rpm over 2000. I'm thinking the FR-S might actually be less peppy at low rpm than my old-ass rotary. I quite enjoy the little bit of low-end grunt I have right now, which of course is way more than I ever had with the old Civic. Meh, I guess it could be worse.

Anyway, this looks pretty cool so I'm just praying it's big-man friendly.
^ Here's what I replied on Jalopnik:

Me @ Jalopnik
I'm 6'3 too and I believe the interior space of the 86/GT 86/BRZ/Scion aE is similar to my current '85 Corolla GT-S (aka. AE86/AE88). Given that the old and the new one are basically the same size.

;)

I don't think it'll be that bad. Torque peak on the Civic when VTEC was 5800 was like, 6100rpm. It gained a ton of midrange with VTEC at 4250, and it still probably peaks closer to 6. Take VTEC out of the equation and it should be nice and smooth all the way up. Rev limit is sort of listed at 7400, but since redline starts at 7500 I'm wondering if that not a good label and it can dig a little closer to 8000.

Lol, I never thought to look at the redline so I was thinking it maxed at 7000. Look closer, the line is marked at 7400.

You're probably right that it won't be bad. My car's gearing is abnormally tall for the power it makes, and plus the Scion being a 6-speed means all the gears will probably be a lot shorter, helping to bolster any lack of low-end grunt. Might have to shift more often than I do now, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Fancy VVT and whatnot might help the situation (anybody got deets on VVT or whatever?).

Noooo! Aww, it looks worse than the Nihon-terior. That head unit looks like it belongs on an old star trek set. And it has a keyhole. That's so 90s! The thing that bothers me the most is the blue seat insert, however. I HATE colored seat inserts! Hopefully that's just an option.

Anyway, look how low it is. If you hit a pedestrian, I'm sure you'd get smacked in the face by his wangus.

I also sure hope it's got some grunt around 3krpm. Torque, baby! THIS IS AMERICA!

Did you miss the interior shots at www.frs-scion.com ?

I love the rear seats are made this way

Those middle buttons behind the shifter say "Sport" and "Snow". Looks like they are absent on the manual car.

Ironically, I think the AW11's rev limiter is 7400, if not 7600.

Why, yes, yes I did miss those. Thanks for linking them. Still looks real good. I can live with the red accents. Man, this is exciting.

I love that they didn't go crazy with the red like in the Toyota. That red steering wheel was horrid.

We lost the cool switches on the center stack though.

I can't believe the shaft tunnel is only as big as a medium coke. Must have as much torque as a piss ant crawling on a wagon wheel.

This car looked stunning in the concept stage, I'm happy that alot of the styling cues have carried over to production. Not a fan of the rear lights, they seem a little.. Small for my tastes.

Something I noticed...Where do I rest my arm when I'm not countersteering and stuffs? On top of my beverages (which are stored 120 degrees to my right?!)?

The cupholders seem to be missing from the amateur shot.

It looks like some kind of diamond/cross-hatched surface finish, not an insert.

Last I checked, a Boxer is more wide than tall, while a straight 4 is generally more tall than wide.

I think I worded what I said prior reasonably well... maybe some other members are rubbing off on me. :indiff:

Regardless, what I meant is most engines are likely too tall for that bay, unless you do some crazy fun tilt mount action, but even then getting everything lined up would probably be a headache beyond the worth of it all. Especially for something like a 2ZZ-GE, which I'd honestly see no point in putting in there unless you just must have that extra few hundred RPM till redline.

That all makes sense. Assumed you meant that, but your first comment made it sound like a boxer was wider and taller.

They took away the push-button start. 👎

Otherwise, it looks nice.

Didn't say anything about an insert. But I can see the diamond pattern a bit. Maybe they are trying to fool you.

Not a fan of the Hazard button either, looks like something off a car from the 90's.

So much to read in this thread... But what is this car going to be in Europe?? Subaru or Toyota?? Because Scion doesnt exist out here.... Sorry if Im being a noob... :)

Both Toyota and Subaru i'd guess.

Is the Scion version any different to the Toyota? - it looks like it's front bumper is a little less fussy.

^ Ok, so they are different cars... I'm getting confused with all these different models... :p I assume a Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ will be on the market here then.

I wonder how many things like that are really being used to keep the cost down. That has to be a big part of all three models having the same wheels.

Didn't whatever allure that push-button start may have had back when Honda put it in the S2000 go away when companies started putting it in crap like minivans?

That thing is awesome. :) If I get my financial situation just right, I wouldn't mind putting one in the driveway. :D --- Randy

The Scion variation is surprisingly nicer than expected, can't say the same for the interior though.

Pfft. It's a gimmick anyway. "Turn key, push button" is one more action than I need to start a car.

The key and push button is extraneous, and pointless. I agree on that (some BMW models from this absurdity).

For most manufacturers, you press the button as you hold the brake pedal, easy enough. On the stick versions of cars that use push-button starts, you just press the clutch (like every modern car in the North American market since 1990 or so), and push the button...if I had to push both the brake and the clutch, and the push-button ignition switch, I'd get fed up with that.

Leaving the key in your pocket is a really nice feature if you have packages to carry, kids in tow, and don't like keys hitting you in the leg every time you take a corner or accelerate/brake. Sure, it takes a day or two to get used to the way it works, but I've always found it really helpful and unlocking/locking the car is just as useful, if not easier with one finger. If anything, it makes more sense in minivans, although it hasn't really been a feature Honda has offered before or since the S2000.

Then again, none of the present Scions have it, so I'm not exactly shocked. But nearly every Toyota, save the Yaris, Corolla, and Matrix, are using it.
