screen tear

Not that most people use the chase cam, but those who say they've never seen screen tearing, besides the tracks people have mentioned here, take an LMP or Group C car around Circuit de la Sarthe in chase cam. Go around Indianapolis and Arnage and you'll likely notice it, particularly on the trees or other scenery on the side of the track, it's brief but it's there.

Personally, it's so seldom when it happens that it's never been a bother. I remember the Metal Gear Solid games on the PS2 were riddled with it though, MGS2 specially. For that matter MGS4 has WAY more tearing than GT5 if I remember correctly.

I *think* I get this a little but mostly at London and just very occasionally other places. To me, perhaps because I am looking at my car and road (which seem mostly unaffected to me) and not the scenery, it's not too noticable. The buildings etc. just shimmer a little, almost as if you are looking at them through a window rain or water is running down.

I may have had it to a lesser extent at Rome or Madrid and did notice it at one spot earlier somewhere in the FGT Championship, so could've been a chicane at Monza.

It's not a significant distraction to me though, rather like the supposedly low quality of some standard cars, which I only ever really notice in photomode, never when racing, unlike some folks who seem to go crazy about it.

I do wish some folks here would be a little more open minded though and realise that whilst it's a shortcoming of the game, it most likely also depends on your TV, cabling and a hefty dose of luck. If people say they don't have it, it's most likely they don't, or it's barely discernible. It does kinda smell like sour grapes on the part of those who are affected by it more.

I also think PC gaming culture has bred an over-awareness of such technicalities, where it used to not be much of a consideration for console gaming. IMHO anyway, there's way too much focus on technical aspects and "setting up" a game rather than whether the game is enjoyable and fun to play. It becomes all about numbers, like a spec sheet. But I guess each to their own, and I just feel fortunate that such things don't seem to irritate me anything like they seem to do others =)

Completely agree. 👍
The screen tearing is there, but not all eyes/brains are alike, and if people don't notice it why should they care? I know I wouldn't!

Many don't see the difference between 45-50 and 60 fps either, and good for them I say!! I don't really notice the screen tearing that much when racing. Just on replays, and not much there either.

It's my first time that i notice screen tearing in GT5, i am playing the first event of b spec(trying to reach the career peak of my b spec driver) and i am noticing it a lot. God it hurts my eyes.

Screen tearing is very common on consoles especially in the past. Now that consoles have improved graphics and more people play on HDTV more are noticing stuff like tearing.
People who never notice tearing is what is referred to "they look but doesn't see". Your mind/brain has the ability to filter out something it's not looking for. Once you start to look for screen tearing and see it the more your will notice it.

P.S I'm in 12 hours of the Le mans race and haven't notice one tear not because they are not there but because I'm not looking for them.
