Sigh, stupid, thread, has been discussed before.
I just hope this change will be reversed to how it was. This change has taken any skill out of the season challenges..
Skill in setting up a car, to get more knowledge about what i.e. camber does etc..

Devedander
You talk the talk, will you walk the walk?

SideShow Bob
Nope, but I will happily make excuses and try to dodge.

Dime a dozen :sly:

I never said anything about being happy with how they are... I just said your theory is wrong... and it is :)

Pity you can only get new tyres for NASCAR, only managed 4th in the NSCAR Ring challenge cos it's nearly impossible to overtake cars without spinning out or getting sucked onto the grass or kitty litter! I almost did better in 2nd attempt getting up to 5th in 1st lap with no collisions then CRASH FOLLOWED BY RAGE QUIT!!!!

Learn the ring.. That's the only advice I can give.
I did 6:2x's without too much trouble and without any upgrade or oil change.. (836 bhp) You should be in 5th or 6th place after the 1st lap..

We simply disagree. I think everyone should have a chance to win the extra cash and xp. If they want to take a 800 hp car up against 200 hp cars then god bless em. Have fun. I test and tune just what I need to win. If it takes me 3 days to find the perfect tune then that's 3 days well spent. I like it that way

No we don't simply dissagree, you are wrong and what you or I like has nothing to do with it.

What you say is patently wrong as I fully explained in detail multiple times that it's not the same thing at all. The fact that you can't/won't understand that does not in any way make it less of a truth and more of a disagreement.

I do know the ring, I had a perfect 1st half to the lap but tried getting by some AI driver & the prick sent me into the wall! :(

No. You're wrong. Simple as that.

Your opinions to correct the difficulty have merit, I will not deny that, but also realize they are simply opinions, and because of that cannot be right or wrong. And stating an opinion is fact does not make it fact. You have made your points, accept that some disagree and leave it at that.

No. You're wrong. Simple as that.

That is probably the strongest argument you have made yet... which says a lot.

My opinion is that what Sideshow bob has portrayed as bieng a replacement for the removal of the restrictions in the seasonal challenges is flawed is actually right... an opinion and a fact can be the same thing and in this case they are.

I have explained and illustrated how what he says is NOT accurate... so to say it's just my opinion and not right or wrong is to say that after looking at data a scientest deciding the distance the sun is from the earth is just his opinion and neither right or wrong.

SSB has confused what he enjoys with a carefully constructed high elevel of challenge.

They are not the same and that is as provable as anything can be... in fact I already did.

Now which is "best" is opninion or which is "most enjoyable" is opinion. My opinion is it would be best overall to leave the restrictions up but leave the races open to tune as you like... maybe even pay out for meeting the restrictions, I don't really care... but just limiting myself in no way makes up for the restrictions being not listed anymore.

Just limiting yourseslf is not the same as having someone else carefully craft a set of very challenging restrictions for you to meet plain and simple and to say it is is wrong plain and simple. As I pointed out... no one would have self restricted themselves to the ford focus restrictions just by chance and even if a very few would have by chance, it's still not a replacement overall.

Restrict yourself - make the game appropriate for your skill level

Restrictions - make you get better to meet the challenge

Not the same at all. Gets no more cut and dry than that.

I even went so far as to offer $250 cash payout to excercise his own advice... but he wouldn't... what does that tell you?

It's just impossible for you to argue a subject without taking personal shots isn't it?

TBH the only good thing about the no limits is not having to buy another car. I had to waste another 500,000cr on a Nascar for Special Events 2, despite already having one that had the oil changed and engine run in putting it near 60BHP above the limit.

Nah... but when the challenge isn't there in the argument, I have to do things to keep it entertaining for myself. That's not the same as being given a challenging and enjoyable debate in the first place... but I wouldn't expect you to grasp that concept ;)

Agree that the restrictions screwing over cars with an oil change was quite annoying. I got lucky and didn't own any of the cars already except for NASCAR and had never touched that...

See? There you go again. That alone detracts from any legitimate argument you make.

I won't comment on the specifics of your quarrel with Bob, thats between you two, I simply was trying to stop the bantering back and forth and it seemed to me that you were the aggressor in this case. If I was incorrect in my assessment I apologize.

As to the $250 challenge, while interesting I think it would be rather silly for anyone to actually consider undertaking it and actually and think they will get the reward. Props to you if you really would have followed through with payment but this is the internet and we all know in most cases it would never happen.

As to your point about how other Gran Turismo's got the reward system right, please elaborate on this. Because other than the useless A-Spec points (nothing more than bragging rights) in 4 I can't remember what you are referring to.

See? There you go again. That alone detracts from any legitimate argument you make.

You sure whine about it for someone who started the negative trend:

I don't care about the post before mine. Quit being lazy and show some self control.

Besides, the point I made was already solid... it might make WANT to admit it less but it in on way detracts from the validity of the points I have made :)

And if you are wondering, yes it is very transparent that you are trying to turn the conversation on my comment style rather than the point that you are wrong about ;)

That's why I said to an escrow - ie a third party who holds the funds and distribute appropriately when the deal is closed. It proves both parties can and will step up and prevents either from renigging.

And as for who was the agressor - I would argue telling someone else to just stop being lazy makes you the agressor :)

As for previous GTs I seem to recall (and I may be wrong on this) that the way it worked was if you tuned past the limits, you still got the win but you got almost not Cr.

I am fine with that, I have no problem with you playing your game how you want and if that means bringing a bazooka to a knife fight, that's all good... but leave the restrictions there for people like me who love the challenge of a restriction/hard race but can't be go through the gruling and frustrating trial and error method to find the proper settings.

This all goes back to why I offered a $250 wager - $250 is a good chunk of change, and if the process was at all reasonable to accomplish anyone would take the $250 do it and run... the point I was making with that offer is that the suggestion "just limit yourself" as a response to lost restrictions is completely unresaonable if not entirely impossible.

The simplest reasoning is to imagine being tuned just a few HP short of possibly winning... how would you ever know? You might always be just a little more practice from winning... or you might be trying an impossible challlenge... if you tune up a few HP you might be overopwering your car - if you don't, you might end up trying forever to do the impossible. That's why the suggestion to limit yourself is not the same as being given restrictions - you KNOW the restrictions are doable - you might just be bashing your head against the wall limiting yourself and ultimately you can never KNOW your current setup is impossible. The focus event appeared totally impossible at first, but ultiately was doable. That in and of itself is proof how "just limit yourself" isn't a valid replacement at all.

I forgot a "you".

Switch the o and the n around also. :)

I think they're designed to be possible with a stock car with better tyres, the same as the others, except now you can tune them to make up for any deficit in your ability. The only reason people would complain is because their pride for completing the events would be hurt by other, less able, gamers being able to get an unfair advantage to complete it too, but, frankly, those people are the only ones who would care about that.

I don't care if other people can do it, in fact, the more that can do it, the better, because that means it's more do able.
But I do want some sense of difficulty, so it feels like you've achieved something.
The feeling you get from getting Gold in a Special Event.

Exactly... I don't care about how others do it, it's about doing it for me.

I like the feeling knowing I just completed a very hard challenge.

And as I explained before, just choosing some arbitrary limit or not knowingly overpowering my car is not at all the same thing.

I just want to see variety from the Seasonal Events. I want to see some hard ones so I can shout from the rafters - I golded it ! There should also be easy ones for the casual player so they get something out of it too and I never argue with an occasional easy gold. Just keep mixing it up.

Right now I want a Bspec race with 10 million XP, and an entry level requirement of 35 !

why does PD have banned the PP races? it was a good way the keep the cars challenging

I have to agree with you. Personally I like having some races that are easier and less time consuming. That doesn't mean that the restrictions don't have merit though. Without restrictions I wouldn't have learned the SSR5 course nearly as well as I have. The first time I ran that course I came in 5th or 6th. It took me about 3-4 hours of attempts before I was able to gold that challenge. If it wasn't for the restrictions I would have just modified it more and would never have learnt as much as I did. It was also one of the very few times that I was noticably excited after winning a race. I did a fist pump and a muffled "yeeeahhh" after winning (Kids were sleeping or it would have been louder)

I have a few accounts that I'm trying to level up. So even though I've made some of the challenges quite easy to gold I've still run them multiple times. I've noticed that my lap times keep improving even after 30+ laps. I had never run the Nurburgring GP track before so needed lots of Mods to win at first. Now I can get first at the end of the third lap with those same mods. I suspect with another 20-30 laps I could probably win it with no or very little mods. Which would probably meet the restrictions that PD would have set.

I am a professional and only get a few hours per week to race GT5. I do like having races with no restrictions so I can level up and get XP quickly and fit it in my schedule. However, I won't delude myself into thinking I learn just as much without it. You may disagree with Devedanders opinion about whether restrictions are needed or not, however I do believe it is a fact that there is indeed a difference between setting our own and having PD set them.

Personally I'd like a mix of both. Maybe have suggested restrictions, but make them optional. Or have some seasonal events with and some without restrictions.

IMHO - If people see the new Seasonal Events as a "short cut" to make loads of cash & gain lots of Experience points quickly, they won't bother with all the Clubman / Sunday Cup type events that make you work harder to acheive less !!!

That, in turn will cut short your enjoyment of the game as PD originally built it.

These seasonal events are so good to level up...

Donated some cars to my second account and after 3 or 5 races the guy went from lvl 1 to lvl 25!

Good shortcut.

PS: this was BEFORE the restrictions were removed!

It's great for everyone now. Can make it as hard or as easy as you want. Enjoy!

I second that. 👍
That RX7 race... jeebus. I could follow the regs for the rest of them, but that one was bound to be the one to make me break my DS3 controller.

PD has been developing these events with the restrictions planned out. It seems like they dropped the tuning restrictions because of complaints. What if they put the planned restrictions (Weight, HP, and tire) for each event in the intro text with an "if you want a challenge" type of statement. That way those of us who want to savor the challenge of the game can and those who want to jsut beat teh game and move on can as well.
