That first combo, with front wheel drive cars where everyone chose some concept i never heard of, cause it's obviously the fastest, and the second one where everyone chose RX8 on Sports Medium tires, is similarly comical.
Firstly, all aids are allowed except Skid Recovery (although it seems like it's on with that RX8 on Sport Mediums :yuck: ), then, i'm not sure but it seems like it's allowed to tune them? I ran 5 seconds slower with RX8 yesterday, but i drove it Stock, is it me, or is it allowed to tune them, cause i can't be THAT much off the pace..

Are you talking about the time trials?

I think i did mention it in the thread tittle..

Wow today is not my day.:dunce:

Anyway I didn't touch the time trial part yet, but the races were not bad. A bit easy actually.

perhaps you should learn how to read the restrictions part of the time trials. If it doesn't list it on the restrictions, then obviously you can tune it to your liking. I believe they are 246hp, over 1200kg, and sports medium. As long as you meet that criteria, then it should be fine. That's pretty straightforward, no?

Don't really see the problem but yes, you are allowed to tune your car as much as possible (not over 246 hp or what it is)

You can tune as long as it stays within the power and weight limits, suspension, transmission etc all can be done.

No he is talking about the Time trial, which is the 3rd option on the list of Seasonal Events...

You can run your car fully upgraded to the rule provided that it meets the rule of the time trial. There is max power and min weight. I can't get closer than 2 sec on the FWD one, haven't tried the RWD one yet. If you look at the leader board you'll notice they are also running with no driving aid except ABS=1.

Frankly I am just not fast enough, but its fun to keep trying until it gets frustrating, then I start doing something else....

I think these would have been better if they did what they did with the Licence tests. Have it so you load up the event and the game gives you a preset car, whether you own it or not, and that is the car you time trial in. That way, everyone can compete if they have the car or not.

I also don't think upgrading should be allowed in this mode, it should be about pure driver skill with everyone in the same car.

Exactly, sadly 95% of this forum doesn't see it that way. Everything should be stock with aids NOT allowed (btw the first guy on the RX8 is running Active steering), and tires that compliment the car realistically, Sport Mediums on RX8 is an overkill, car becomes such a dull drive, almost feels like a NFS tittle.

I agree. It should be on an even plane, but I do however think that they should make a TUNED Time trial board, and a STOCK time trial board.

Everyone always ends up in the same cars with these things- after a couple of days the fastest car is found, and then anyone who looks at the leaderboard just goes straight to it.

It's all rather pointless and would be much more sensible, and simple, if the car was provided for you and had to be used "as is", and the ultimate result would be the same, except it would be much more inviting, imo.

i think its good the way it is, seeing as in real life time attacks everyone isnt driving the same car. Think it mixes some tuning in so its not all about being the best driver, but setting your car up too

I think there is some merit in having both "tuned" trials and "stock" trials.

The stock trials would be a pure test of driving skill where everyone is on the same level. RedBullRacer's idea of being allocated a car (even if you don't own it) for the trial, like the licence tests, sounds good for this.

Tuned trials, though, also have merit, as tuning a car is a skill in itself. After all in, say, F1 half the competition is the manufacturers tweaking their cars to suit the conditions. Driving is only half the story.

So, on balance, I think both ways should be incorporated to suit everyone. There!

I tried the 246bhp trial in my chromeline 300SL... I got nowhere near the top, but it was a fun drive. If only I could counter the tragic understeer (I might be a contender)! 👍

Yeah the events suck, the guy on #1 (yesterday, was also an gtp member) in rome has active steering on maximum... What an crap if you are faster with driving aids on...

I did an half second better of my best time than without active steering...

Well if you or anyone else is faster with Aids on then by all means use them. If you are faster without them then do not use them. The point is to turn the best lap you can.

I think it is sad that some users would want to restrict other users based on thier own preferences.

Imagion if they made the trails where you had to use an auto tranny and all assits set to max. Most people would not like that to much yet we have some people calling for all assists to be turned off.

I do not see any problems with the events. If you are not faster without your assists than someone else who is using them then you either need to get better or use assists or don;t worry about your position on the board. Personally I am faster without most of the assists though I do still use some TCS and ABS.

With active steering you are faster in corners... It´s not your own driving skill if the assist is bringing you better around the corner...

I don´t say I don´t want assists allowed... But it´s not that good if you are faster with assists on...

In GT Academy in GT5P you were only fast with all assists turned off and there were no user in the top100 with assists on...

no

maybe Pd will give the top 10 some expensive cars that are already in the game, who knows?

In general, leaderboards force the promotion for leaderboard cars, and this in some short time kill the racing games imo, because everyone want drive the same car that are in leaderboards, and then we have zillions players playing with the same car, simple boring...
FM3 have this defect(among others) everytime that you go run online, you only see leaderboard cars, then you want run and be competitive or win, take one leaderboard car, if not, you lose...95% of times. Always will have leaderboard cars in all games I suppose, but promoting them is different.
FM3 have servers runing this type of events, but with a difference, they put one car (stock/clean) equal for everybody, and everybody race with the same car without tuning. Whith factory specs only.

Anyway, thanks PD to not allow drivetrain changes on GT5! I and many of us appreciate for sure. Like change a drivetrain on Viper for AWD!:scared:

I have the Mazda concept car but used an Alfa 156 just to be different :)

The last Academy had Active steering disabled. The first GT Academy run in GT5P never listed active steering, nor did they in the TT leaderboards. A lot use it since day 1 of GT5P.

And GT5 demo where it was disabled had the same people at the top so its a non issue. I've been trying it on and off and there's no difference in lap time and just gives a different feel.

Not sure why people complain about these event, they are actually pretty difficult to master and while some people drives with aids, you can spot them on the on-line scores, I can tell that aids not always help your time, you have to drive good anyways.

I believe its a good way to find what are the fastest on each category cars due to the restrictions they are imposing, excellent knowledge source for on-line gaming.

I never used the KUSABI Concept until now for instance and I really found it pretty good to drive, very tricky to setup however, I had to spend a lot playing with the suspension settings till I got it right for the track, they should be harder with tire rules IMHO however.

True people will want to drive the cars that they perceive to be the fastest but I am not worried about that in the least.

Right now people will see those 2 Mazdas up there in the time trails and many will not even try another car until they see someone else posting a top time in it. That is thier loss.

I remember on Forza 2 2 years into the game everyone was driving the top leaderboard cars as you would expect. Me and my borther were looking for something different and tuned up a car that was not on any of the leaderboards anywhere or at least not anywhere near the top of any of them.

Anyway we tuned this car and drove it posting top 25 times and then our teammates all posted top 100 times with it. For a while we were the only people on the leaderbooard with that car then other people started trying it as well. Now it has been over a year since we drove that car and our times are still in the top 50 :)

On Forza 3 early I built a new car that was not on the leaderboards mostly becaused I liked the car and did not like the one that the top ten guys were driving. The result was I took the top spot on the board. I then set my team mates up with it and we took positions 1-5 and 8 of the top ten before everyone else decided it was time to use that car instead.

Exactly!

If you can't compete with the best on this format, you probably won't make it if the event was using a single car/model. Try the other events.

Half of the fun is looking for a potential car and setting it up.

Hahaha, people complain about not having leaderboards, now they complain about having them. Whaaa whaaa!

Hahaha, people complain about not having leaderboards, now they complain about having them. Whaaa whaaa!

The topic starter is bloody right, though. There are no leaderboards, only these 2 whimsical events that fit well with all the other circus events GT has to offer.

And why is it that within minutes after the event shows up the only way to set a competitive time is to use some unknown concept car I can't even find?

What does it say for a simulator where the only "leaderboard" there is can't even be properly used by an existing car?

If it was only stock cars allowed though, the settings for the car would suit the driving style of some but not others.

Even now with the RX-8 you can only have the clutch, flywheel, gearbox, LSD, prop shaft and wing.

Its not like anyone has a huge advantage with any of this, and you could fiddle around til you found their settings so it is a level playing field.
You can get the car and all possible upgrades for about 120,000cr so thats only one go of the Indy thing in the American Championship.

Noone on the leaderboard has settings that couldnt be replicated with half an hour or so of fiddling.

Hahaha, people complain about not having leaderboards, now they complain about having them. Whaaa whaaa!

Oh my... is this what you call leaderboards? 2 of them, out of what, 50.000 possible variations? And to be allowed to tune the cars (which i never do) and almost all of the aids allowed?
Try 370z, stock, Comfort Soft tires, all aids off, Abs off, on Indy Road Course or Suzuka.. now that's what i call a sim, in those kind of circumstances it's up there with the PC sims.. but this RX8 with Sport Mediums, on that lifeless track.. just :yuck:
I can imagine that most of you kids (sorry the most of you are) who never played anything serious before, can consider this to be "awesome" or whatever, but believe me it isn't..
