Seasonal Time Trial events - what a joke

I understand that and it would be very difficult for them to replicate every car's actual TCS and ABS systems. In lieu of this they have basic ABS and TCS options. While I drive most cars with them off, if I am in a 7, 8, 9 hundred HP car, I will probably use it, because it makes it nearly impossible to get the power down without losing speed. This is the same reason F1 uses it and why I mentioned that. Also, when I do track days, like I said, if it is raining I leave it on because I would like to not meet the Armco!

Formula 1 doesn't use traction control.

This is how it's supposed to be, similar to real world time attack.

It's a joke cause you can't go on top of the leader boards?

Wa wa wa ... fix this, fix that ... It ain't broke and it's not for you.

I won't swear, but posts like this make me to.. I can't go on top of the leaderboards? No, with stock RX8 i can't, which i thought it would be the case, but no, i have to 'tune' it (yea, we're all professional tuners now eh, just buy the most expensive option and you're a "tuner" maaan.. ), it is a joke, and just because this game is more serious then a NFS tittle, doesn't mean it met the standard of top sims, it can, but with opinions like yours it never will.

I dont mean to be condescending, but if you are having trouble tuning an RX-8 for Rome i could help you out a bit. My method is a bit long-winded but it does get the job done.

Cheers for the offer, but i hate that, i'm bitter how they've done the leaderboards and on the thought that we might never get the proper leaderboards, so no thanks.. i'll rather be 5 secons off the pace with a stock car ;)

I feel like they should have the time trial system that is in GT5p then a tune-able mode like these seasonal events

We could set up a Stock Car Time Attack" sort of thing. I imagine a fair few people would be in the position of not wanting to dedicate months to finding the perfect tune and everything for this.

Well you would imagine that would be in the game from the start, but they obviously don't think it's big of a deal, lol :d
If it's maybe too much for the servers or whatever, make it manual like in LFS for example, so that you manually upload a lap time with which you are satisfied.. and see where you are.

Some people are never happy... So what if the FIRST Online Time Trial requires you to tune a car (oh, the horror!), you don't think that later on, there might not be a few Stock Trials..? Whole point of these things is that they will keep changing. Don't like them now? Just wait a while.

To be honest, there are only a few cars in the game that handle that well in Stock configuration. I think, if we do get a One Design time trial, we ought to get a car provided that someone at PD had tuned and balanced to be fairly neutral. No additional parts, but suspension and steering geometry tweaked until decent.

Otherwise, racing Stock cars becomes mostly an exercise in damage control. How BAD does this one turn, how BAD does the other handle bumps, or oversteer, etc..?

Be nice to see how well the PD boys can tune a car better than Stock, too.

It's not about the first time trial, there shouldn't be a FIRST one in the first place, there should be proper leaderboards like in Prologue, with stock cars and aids off. THEN i wouldn't mind for these seasonal "tuninggzzzz111, look at my tuned Gallardo maaaan!" events..

I like looking at the replays more than anything. My goal is to perform better and better. I perhaps cannot match an assisted car, but I still like looking at the lines others take. Did that in GT5P got lap times in the top 50 with just about any car I tried.

I think thats a bit far - these events are very limited tuning wise. For the Rome Time Trial you buy a stock RX-8 and put a spoiler on it if you wish. You can't even do an oil change or it's HP is too high to enter. Then it's just down to messing around with ride height, toe, camber, brake balance and the other minor things until you can make the car handle appropriately for the circuit.

If anything it's teaching people what small tweaks can do to a cars performance - something I was unaware of until now. I just drove the stock and that was that. Yes it's cool to know that all drivers/cars are equal, but this is more a case of finding a way to make the car drive perfect for you on that given circuit and adds a whole new dimension to it.

Currently 86th on the Rome TT and I can see at least half a second easily if I hook my lap up properly - the last corners get me every time. I wanted to give up on this event but I stuck it out, started tweaking and now I'm really enjoying it.

Have you won the FGT series yet? I can't imagine golding that without tuning the car.

You sound like you're new to the GT series. Perhaps this game isn't your cup of tea?

No i haven't, i forced myself to play some of the career only so i have the money to buy a few good cars, fortunately those Special events weren't such a pain and they gave plenty of money. I just can't play the 'career', it's horrid.. i'm playing LFS Online from 2005 and when you're used to that, then this GT5 grinding system becomes such a chore.. i literally have to force myself to play against the AI.
I'm not new to the series but i'm not playing it like most of you.. I could play it for years if there are leaderboards, while most of you will get bored of it after you 'finish' it lol..

I think you should read the time trial requirements before you make stupid posts like this. You can't just drop money to make more HP and drop the weight due to the power/weight requirements. The "tuning" aspect of it involves setting up the car suspension wise which, believe it or not, is a huge part of motorsport and any enthusiast. Just because you have no idea about tuning and have no inclination or desire to learn, there's no need to trivialize it for everybody else who consider tuning very important. And I repeat, this is not talking about spending hundreds of thousands "making my leet galardoz 100000HP man".

The time trial should've been one car only, stock modifications, with times to beat for credits & XP along with a PSN leaderbord.

Why are there also no friends leaderboards on these time trial events?

This is needed, hopefully it will be implemented in a future update. Would make it much more fun in my opinion.

But stock with no tuning available would mean it may suit some drivers and not others. Its still a level playing field with tuning allowed, they have access to all the same dials as you do, you just have to find what works for you.

Adopting someones elses tune will be good in the short term, but you'll have to make your own modifications if you want to improve.

I think there is some merit in having both "tuned" trials and "stock" trials.

The stock trials would be a pure test of driving skill where everyone is on the same level. RedBullRacer's idea of being allocated a car (even if you don't own it) for the trial, like the licence tests, sounds good for this.

Tuned trials, though, also have merit, as tuning a car is a skill in itself. After all in, say, F1 half the competition is the manufacturers tweaking their cars to suit the conditions. Driving is only half the story.

So, on balance, I think both ways should be incorporated to suit everyone. There!
The only good suggestion so far.
I had fun trying to set up the car and see how it affects my lap times, it would be nice to be able to see the top 3 people's tunes/settins AFTER the event is over (to stop the pathetic cookie cutter mentality that plagues gaming nowadays).

Spot on.

What some don't realise is just how leaderboards can vastly improve your enjoyment of the single player mode i.e A Spec. If we had leaderboards for A Spec then that would give us extra motivation to keep re-running events. For example me and my friends were seperated by less than a second on the endurance events on FM2 and this was after a 45min race.

The trouble with Kaz is he doesn't bother looking at other racing games to see how these have progressed forward. The same can be said for some on here because they have moved from GT4 to GT5P/GT5 without experiencing the online aspects that FM2/3 gave us.

Sorry but Kaz/PD and some of the members on GT planet are still living in the past and haven't moved with the times!

Thats YOUR opinion...I couldn't give a rats ass about leaderboards and I'm sure I'm not alone...if it bothers you so much then here's some advice....why don't you go back to your precious FM games 👍

I seriously think you are just trying to find excuses for your poor driving performance.

IMHO the time trials are good as they are been setup right now. It is true that people will always find "the car" for the event and after that every body will start using it, however, upgrades that can be made for the cars is very limited.

There is practically no engine tuning possible for the RX-8, and in the KUSABI case you have to meticulously choose what parts to upgrade to have the best torque/horse-power output. This is a level of detail that just makes the game more challenging because you need to do your research, learning a few good stuff in the process.

"(yea, we're all professional tuners now eh, just buy the most expensive option and you're a "tuner" maaan.. )"

I think someone very mediocre minded will consider itself a GT tuner just buying parts, not that the default setup that comes with them will make your laps faster and put you a top of the leader board.

Analyzing the replays of the top guys with the data logger you can see that they are achieving some serious G-forces cornering and also optimal RPMs (They are good rev-matching BTW, not having a proper wheel with clutch is a huge disadvantage). That is only possible spending some time tuning your car.

A good driver is not just good at handling the car, he need to know how the car behaves and how to set it up to best suit every track/condition that he may encounter, even when pro-drivers don't do their setups them selves, the best of the best like the great Senna had a very close relationship with his engineers to have them setup their cars to their needs.

With that said, Gran Turismo, like any proper racing sim (iracing, rfactor, etc...) allow you to do tweaking of your cars. And to master the game, you have to be good at both, tweaking and driving, a top person on the leaderboar should have to be excellent at both.

Lack of leaderboards is a bummer.
@ Ivor. I thought you and your mates were only bothered with running the ring at night with rain?

I got a question according to those time trials. Any clue hows with rewards after its finished? U can check ladder only for 260 peepz if those are the only ones getting anything from it well..then its kinda gay cos considering % or peeps having gt its ouch,.... way to small.
Dont understand me wrong. They deserved to get probably more than lets say me, with 1380th time. But still 1380 is pretty good imo yet again considering amount of peeps out there

dude, I know nothing about tuning. I haven't bothered looking up for the optimal tune for the RX8. All I did was lower the car, and second-guess the rest. I still managed to be in the top 100, so perhaps all it takes is practice?

I'm hoping they actually implement a system like in GT5:P... Time Trials are what kept me playing for over a year, while with GT5 I'm pretty much done the GT Life mode, and the game is losing appeal. We need Leaderboards for whatever car/track combo we choose.

Also for the current Time Trials, is it possible to tell out of how many people your ranking is? I don't care if I'm 3000th out of 3005 people, but if I'm 3000th out of 30,000 people than it's kind of cool even though I'm so far behind others.

I don't have anything against the current system, but I think PD should include more restrictions and show more technical data for cars in their specifications such as suspension type, front/rear track, tire size, weight distribution, etc.

My eybeball meter tells me that the Mazda Kusabi, as a FF car, seems to be too much "perfect" (look at the weight, width, height, or even of wide the tires are and the engine displacement. I don't think other cars that I know can technically compete with that), that's probably why it's been the car of choice. On the other hand, I feel that there are probably other cars about technically equivalent to Mazda RX-8 for the FR time trial challenge, although again everybody seem to use it.
