Seasonal Time Trial events - what a joke

Hopefully we dont have to wait too long for proper leaderboards to go up. Like in GT5P. No tuning and of course different leaderboards for every car.(Although with 1000+ cars and 70ish tracks that may take some doing) Also a tuned TT section would be good but that would mean twice the amount of data.

The thing is... don't go for the "leaderboard" car.

Choose the car you want, build it to be competitive and have fun.

Compete with yourself, and with your friends... it's way better.

And I like the way it is. Limit by horsepower/mods or by car type. The way it was on GT5P was good, but now we just have "too much" cars to do like that. So seasonal work good for me.

Why are there also no friends leaderboards on these time trial events?

ABS and TCS I can understand, as those are real systems used on real cars... but active steering and skid control? Come on now...

Try 370z, stock, Comfort Soft tires, all aids off, Abs off, on Indy Road Course or Suzuka.. now that's what i call a sim

Considering a stock 370Z has ABS and TCS, no it would not be simulation.

I knew someone was gonna do that. :)

My point was that the way they are implemented in the game is more arcade like. At least the TCS and ABS seem to be somewhat realistic, when used in moderation.

i guess they included these aids for people that need assist.

In general, leaderboards force the promotion for leaderboard cars, and this in some short time kill the racing games imo, because everyone want drive the same car that are in leaderboards, and then

Frankly though that is not that far off from real world racing. If in a certain car had a perceived advantage everyone else who can afford to will migrate to it.....

I don't get it.. i meant stock as not tuned. And i think that most of you will learn, and it will be proved, that these assists are not acting like the real ones, cause every manufacturer has it's own ways of implementing TC and ABS etc.. but these in the game work the same in every car. The 'purist' experience from this game is imo when you turn all of them off.
And you WOULD turn TC off in the real car if you drove it on a track day..

Oh my... is this what you call leaderboards?

What did you think was going to happen? All these schmucks who were enamored to an absurd degree with leaderboards just didn't want to believe that it would turn into a one car circle jerk. Well here it is. Are you happy now?
:D

On the topic of assists. They are in almost all modern cars, from a VW GTI to a track day supercar. I've gotten to the point that I refuse to race in rooms that have all assists turned off. These races with 700hp Ferraris or whatever just turn into nothing more than "purist-im-a-clean-racer" crash fests.

You said that the closest sim experience is with ABS and TCS off, (I drive with those off on some cars and on low levels on other cars) while most cars have these things in real life. So sim, would be estimating the proper amount of TCS and ABS. In the end, it doesn't matter though, because it is preference.

As to your last statement, no thats not true either. If it is raining, I would probably leave it on. Also, a lot of race series (see Formula 1) use TCS.

You're comparing formula one with road going cars. I think every car enthusiast will turn TC off ih he went on the track with it.
But anyhow, i'm saying that assist in this game work a 'little' bit better then they should and i don't think they are representative of the real driving aids, they just feel 'generic' to me. That's why from now on i'm driving with everything off.

ABS is not a car feature in GT5, there is no variation from car to car. IRL some cars have very intrusive ABS systems, in the same they have intrusive TCS systems, whilst others do not.

It's a help "at the pedal" which is why it's the same across the board, and as such its "Purist" sim value is diminished a lot imo.

One thing I find odd about the GT5 ABS, is that with it set to 1 there is no locking, so why would anyone ever set it higher than that?

I understand that and it would be very difficult for them to replicate every car's actual TCS and ABS systems. In lieu of this they have basic ABS and TCS options. While I drive most cars with them off, if I am in a 7, 8, 9 hundred HP car, I will probably use it, because it makes it nearly impossible to get the power down without losing speed. This is the same reason F1 uses it and why I mentioned that. Also, when I do track days, like I said, if it is raining I leave it on because I would like to not meet the Armco!

I just wish the option for TCS and ABS was only available for cars that have it equipped...even if it is generic for all models.

I set it that way anyway, but it would be easier to jump in my old muscle car and not have to remember to check and see if ABS and TCS is turned off. :)

Exactly, sadly 95% of this forum doesn't see it that way. Everything should be stock with aids NOT allowed (btw the first guy on the RX8 is running Active steering), and tires that compliment the car realistically, Sport Mediums on RX8 is an overkill, car becomes such a dull drive, almost feels like a NFS tittle.
So don't use Sport Mediums then...it's not PDs fault if you use aids of any description to help you through the game, and if other people do use them, why should that bother you?

Certainly in GT5 Prologue a number of cars benefitted under braking from even higher ABS values (some ABS 10!) and actually allowed for faster lap times and noticeably more stability under heavy braking when turning etc.

Not saying it was realistic, just that there seemed to be some laptime benefit to higher ABS on some combos.

I hate it when people add extra features to my game [/sarcasm]

I realy can't see what the problem is with the time trial. Just don't have a hissy fit if you can't get near the best time.

Assists should be available to help weaker drivers become better, yet not make good drivers better than the rest. There is a reason F1 went away from driver assists, to highlight how good the drivers are, not that any dummy behind the wheel could win.

Oh, the event is fine. The only problem is that the proper leaderboards that were promised are still nowhere to be found. This is an important feature that was very well implemented in GT5P and was immensely popular (and I should know ;))

You could say I bought GT5 for this because I don't really like all those events where you have to do the maddest thing to overtake 15 cars in 1 lap or those short 3 lap races.

Well my opinion is the time trials are an utter farce.

For starters GT5 wasn't released with any leaderboards which is a joke in my opinion especially as even arcade racing games have leaderboards because this has become the norm. We wait nearly 6 weeks later for an update and all we get is two time trials.

Sorry but this is an absolute joke. Myself and my friends have all agreed that GT5P is better in some respects because at least we had leaderboards for all the cars and these were stock which I personally prefer.

As i've played racing games online since 2005 i've come to expect certain online features. I shall list below what leaderboards GT5 should of had.

1. Leaderboards for A Spec
2. Same with the special events.
3. Time trial leaderboards for stock cars.
4. For those who like to tune their cars then leaderboards for 100BHP, 150BHP, 200 BHP, 250BHP etc.

Me and my friends spent alot of money in preparation for GT5 i.e PS3, G25 etc. Well I can tell you if PD don't sort this out then we shall be returning to Forza. The likes of Forza might not have the amount of cars or better graphics or even a physics engine. However Turn 10 do at least realise how important the online aspects of racing games are these days. Take for example FM2 the amount of leaderboards was just incredible. Shame we can't get Turn 10/PD to unite because im afraid GT5 is like being in a timewarp and i've gone back 5yrs!!

I think these would have been better if they did what they did with the Licence tests. Have it so you load up the event and the game gives you a preset car, whether you own it or not, and that is the car you time trial in. That way, everyone can compete if they have the car or not.

I also don't think upgrading should be allowed in this mode, it should be about pure driver skill with everyone in the same car.

This seems good on the surface, the problem is different people have different driving styles and will get the most out of different set-ups. Forcing everyone to drive the same set-up will never find the most skilled driver.

that is very true. people need their personal setup to maximize their potential. thats why i partly like the time trial we have now.

the bad aspect is that some setups are faster. thats a fact. in that manner we should have stock cars.

As explained in Prologue the purpose of the setting was to find the right balance between maximum straight line braking and braking stability in corners. 1 has always represented maximum straight line braking, 10 has always represented maximum control while braking in corners, in other words as the number gets higher the ABS crosses over into stability management while braking. Depending on the car and the driving style of the individual finding the right setting for you and your car could shave seconds off your time.

This is how it's supposed to be, similar to real world time attack.

It's a joke cause you can't go on top of the leader boards?

Wa wa wa ... fix this, fix that ... It ain't broke and it's not for you.

GT5 has always had an element of driving school in it. Fact is there is an ultimate driving style and setup, if GT5 helps you learn that then it is much more than a game and it can only be considered a good thing. The downside is this will always be limited by the depth of simulation available so it only partly transfers over to real life.

I object to the feelings of "no aids should be allowed". I feel its generally accepted that aids and an automatic gearbox are a crutch which people can ween themselves off.
Imagine starting, or being a casual player of the game without having access to any of the aids or an automatic gearbox, it would be a disaster and wouldn't be fun to jump into.
I think the fact that the top 100 or so times are set by people using manual and ABS=1 shows that an automatic gearbox and any other aids are a disadvantage. However, just because someone is able to post a quick time with an automatic gearbox doesnt mean that its in any way "unfair". Im sure one of the top drivers using manual could set a hot lap with automatic thats up on the boards.

You are 100% correct about this. The lack of standard leaderboards for all tracks/cars (especially considering they were in Prologue) belies such an extreme level of pretentiousness by Kaz and PD, it's not even funny. The leaderboards are not in the game because he thinks the game is good enough without them, and that they're somehow not worth doing -- that no one will care that this game doesn't have features that are in every other major racing game. Ridiculous.
