If you head over to the Gran Turismo page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gran-Turismo/16562850047), they've announced a Mercedes-Benz seasonal event.

GT5 gamers can challenge F1 ace David Coulthard in the ultimate virtual vs. reality battle. The specially created Mercedes-Benz Driving Event sees gamers take on D.C’s real Mercedes Benz SLS AMG in a new Gran Turismo Seasonal Event. Simply click on Seasonal Events from within the in-game menu. The Seasonal Event will begin at 15.20 BST Monday 5th September with an announcement at 15.00BST of the secret track and an opportunity to have a practice session before the main event starts. The Seasonal Event ends on Monday 26 September at 23.59 BST.

I realize it's been mentioned somewhere on here, but Gran Turismo posted in the comments stating that it'll be available globally?

Just on a point of clarification this seasonal event will be available to all GT5 owners globally - get ready for Monday and may the best driver top the leaderboard!
- Gran Turismo

Can anyone confirm this?

Wait a minute, does this mean maybe if you win the race or something you unlock a new track or soemthing that's been hidden in the game?

I'm curious to see how this is going to play out.

I don't want to speculate, but it almost sounds like it.

I'll be sitting tight to see if we even get it here in the frozen north (Canada) :nervous:

Dang when they said Mercedes-Benz and F1 in the paragraph I almost thought there was gonna be a new Mercedes/McLaren F1 car introduced in the game. Dang hopefully the 'Secret Course' ain't some stupid Eifel or Toscana track.

Maybe they just don't want to say which of the tracks already in game they've chosen for the event. This seems kinda stupid but it's a possibility. I sure hope it's a secret track though...

I'm glad it will be available globally. They really seem to be working to offer a great variety of new events right now. Good for us, the gamers.

Too bad I'm 1 year short dammit.

Mercedes-Benz and Sony Computer Entertainment are looking to rewrite the history books. For the ultimate virtual v. reality race, millions of viewers will be able to watch the action online while Gran Turismo®5 fans will have the chance to compete against Formula 1™ ace - David Coulthard and the clock, in what could end up being the largest race ever recorded.

At 15:20 (BST) on the afternoon of Monday 5 September 2011, David Coulthard will take the wheel of a real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. His opponents will be GT5™ fans from around the globe, who will simultaneously pit their wits against the world-class professional driver, driving the same car through a specially created in-game ‘seasonal event’ - the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event. To add to the drama the world famous track located in Europe which will be the race location is to remain a secret until race day to give all competitors a fair chance at victory.

Meanwhile, at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, England, 24 prize draw winners will be battling to qualify for their place in the big race on the renowned racing game for PlayStation®3. Those who set the top six qualifying times will compete against Coulthard in real time at the flagship venue where visitors are welcome to come and watch the action for themselves. The contestant from Mercedes-Benz World that sets the fastest lap will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2011 Brazilian Formula 1™ Grand Prix on 27 November.

Action footage of David Coulthard driving the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, combined with footage from his real time PlayStation opponents at Mercedes-Benz World, can be viewed live online with live pre-race coverage from Formula 1™ commentator Martin Brundle. Live coverage on race day will begin at 3pm (BST) at www.mercedesliverace.co.uk.

Leaderboard information for virtual racers brave enough to take on David Coulthard via the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event will be available soon on www.gran-turismo.com. With over 5.5 million copies of the game having been sold worldwide in its first two weeks on sale, the live event hopes to become the world’s biggest ever race.

Well, it's probably not going to be Monza, due to that being Ferrari territory, and it's not going to be La Sarthe, due to them not closing down the entire highway there for a few laps...

The only tracks that leaves in-game are the Nurburgring and the Top Gear Test track, and the latter is unlikely due to it not being that famous.

...Of course, if they do add a new track, the possibilities really open up...

They should've said "secret in-game course" to avoid speculation. Prove me wrong PD.

Don't see things toooooo tight. A normal person wrote this text. I DOUBT that this person did consider such thoughts. You can't cover all eventualities....

At last i think it's all more about the event then a NEW track. There's no hint about it at all. E.G. something like "for selling 5.5 copies we want to thank our gamers wiiiiith bla bla bla"

its probably Suzuka because it will be a tad unfair on David if it rains at the track he is at, and then the hot lappers on GT5 get it bone dry

It says it's a world famous track in Europe, so either Nurburgring, La Sarthe, Monza, or a completely new one, which I doubt.

I believe Jordan already commented on the news section that this 'secret' track is already in game.

Sorry.

Wait... Coulthard, UK... secret track? I agree the Nurburgring is the most likely choice... but if it's an added track- I'll hedge my bet on Silverstone.

Merc world is very close to the top gear test track. This has been mentioned in another thread, can't remember where.

I will say very likely there

I'm thinking MOnza because the F1 is going to be there the next week and since he is part of the commentary he must be there

Monza F1 race is 9/10/11th of Sept. Easy to get from Germany to Italy in four days...

99% certain it will be one of the Nurburgring GP tracks.

Question - what happens if it rains on Monday?

I'd say Nurburgring. They also have all the SLS Academy cars there, so it would make sense that this is where things will be happening.

So basically we'll get a Nurburgring seasonal time trial with the SLS that will be available until the end of September.

Sorry.
That's correct, this event will be held at a track that's already in the game.
