Edit: Except for the Rock, it rules.
I have to agree, rock is the best genre of music, because it is such a diverse genre (imo). I can't stand anything else, since all the other genres all sound the exact same from artist to artist.

And Talentless, that was your 10,000th post there, thought you might like to know

You must not be listening to enough music.
I used to listen to lots of more modern style rock, but I gave up on it since so many bands had a very generic sound, little to no originality in the actual sound of the music. That is why I've settled on classic rock, since imo, all the great artists have an extremely distinct sound, which for me is very important. I've almost closed myself off completely from other forms of music, since I find almost everything made in the last 10 or 15 years to be mindless drivel, pushed by giant record companies promoting generic sounding artists so they can sell records to the masses.

About the only other thing than classic rock I will listen to is Jazz, but I find the instrumentation to be fairly limiting in the overall sound produced.

I don't have any problems , but I do have problems with rock.

You do have problems, ironically. I know why you have problems with rock. Because you think it is too loud, abrasive, and monotonous for you to handle. Well, too bad for you. I love rock and metal because there are so many diverse genres in their catagory. Industrial and electronica are what I like too. I have listened to rap, hip-hop, and R&B more recently and it seems that they have gone too commercial. The old-schoolers are better but that is just me.

I don't hate rock just beacuse it's loud. It isn't loud. It's annoying.
The only thing you hear is the guitarr. That's it! :grumpy:

Try listening to Europa or Samba Pa Ti by Santana. Great guitar songs, but the sound is not abrasive at all like many other guitarists.

I agree with Klonie Gun that R&B and Hip Hop are just way too commercial.

That's better than having the drum machine be the only thing you can hear.

Cosmic - Obviously you don't listen to music, because you hear alot more than the guitars. You're music = Boom, cha....boom cha "Yiiii, wiggy wiggy dawg". You call rock boring, and not that? :odd:

If you think all music today is "mindless drivel, pushed by giant record companies promoting generic sounding artists so they can sell records to the masses", then you clearly aren't listening to enough music.

Classic Rock is no more original than music today.

Speaking of Santana - I hate him. He's not that great.

Please suggest some original, mainstream music made in the last 5-10 years. I am very curious to hear some good music made recently.

You said you liked Lamb of God's music when I gave you some to download. :odd:

And did you even download Reign in Blood? If you did, how can you say they're overrated? How do you sleep at night?

I said they make good music, but their vocalist drags them down to the 'suck' level. Maybe it's just his style, but it really irritates me.

Yes I did. And I listened to it right through for your information. I don't know why everyone raves over it so much, it's like the album equivalent of the Idol series. 👎

Equivalent of Idol? Now that's going too far! But fair enough, you don't like death/black vocals (I'm never sure which category Lamb of God singer's vocals go into, but Lamb of God are death). I don't know why you don't like Slayer, it really puzzles me. Explain what sort of metal you really like.

I never said I didn't like it, just that is was way overrated and gets too much hype (like Idol). ;)

Believe it or not, not everybody enjoys rock and metal. It's not because they have a problem, it's because they have a different taste in music than you. I consider myself open to music in almost every genre, but I don't make blind assumptions about everybody who doesn't like the same kind of music that I do.

SLAYER AND SLIPKNOT AND METALLICA AND JUDAS PRIEST AND PANTERA ARE ALL THE GREATEST BANDS EVER AND IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM ITS BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT MAN ENOUGH TO HANDLE HOW LOUD AND EXTREME THEY ARE!!!!!111!1 :dopey:

Perfectly worded.

Also, Slayer and Pantera are great. Judas Priest aren't too bad, but I've explained my feelings for Slipknot too many times. They have potential, that's all I will say. I don't agree about extreme heaviness, except Slayer and a couple of Pantera albums are quite heavy.

Once you listen to the music I do, you won't find it as extreme. But Slayer is still my favourite band, always has been really.

Slipknot may have the potential but they have too many fans. They are way overrated because the fans think Joey Jordison is an excellent drummer. Well, news flash, he is not that good compared to the drummers in Technical Metal, Grindcore, or fast Death Metal music. And did you know that he was the drummer in this one band called Ana1 Blast? That is as close to metal as it can be but no, I really do not think so. I have not heard of Ana1 Blast, though. Slipknot is, was, and always will never be considered real metal. It is more nu-metal influenced with miserably attempted growling, melodic singing, and wanna-be death metal/grindcore riffing. It really does not mix well enough; they are not my cup of tea at all :yuck: 👎

For Slayer, Slayer WAS a great band in their earlier years but now ever since they released God Hates Us All, the band became a bit... generic for some strange reason.

Jimmy, you said that Phil Anselmo was hanging s**t on Pantera and that he caused the band to split afterwards in 2001 and joined Superjoint Ritual. And now you are taking it back saying that Pantera is a great band, huh? Isn't that irony? :p

You're not even willing to entertain the idea that anything non-Tech/Grind/Death is metal are you? Slipknot are metal. Nu Metal is metal. Whether you like it or not, they are still metal. Wake up to yourself and realize not everyone shares your opinion on what bands are good and what metal is.
