Jimmy, you said that Phil Anselmo was hanging s**t on Pantera and that he caused the band to split afterwards in 2001 and joined Superjoint Ritual. And now you are taking it back saying that Pantera is a great band, huh? Isn't that irony?

How the hell is that irony? By saying Phil hung **** on Pantera isn't saying Pantera are bad at all. In fact, point out where I mentioned that Pantera aren't a good band. Please.

Also, I didn't say that it caused the band to split, rather that he hung **** on them AFTER the band split. (Although he was the main contributor to the band's split) Please, Klonie, read my posts before you attempt to make me look like a fool.

Also, I have an Ana1 Blast album. Joey is a good drummer, but he is suffocated by Slipknot. He deserves a better quality band in my opinion.

Also, Nu Metal is metal, I REALLY hate to admit that, but it's a mix of Alternative and Metal according to it's definition (apparantly). Nu Metal, Emo Metal and whatever other stupid genres involve Metal should have the word "Metal" removed from it's name.

How about Nu Metal goes under Alternative? Emo Metal under Emo, just being a heavier version. Or even "Heavy Emo"? The word Metal is used too generally. I hate whoever created these offensive genres.

You're not even willing to entertain the idea that anything non-Tech/Grind/Death is metal are you? Slipknot are metal. Nu Metal is metal. Whether you like it or not, they are still metal. Wake up to yourself and realize not everyone shares your opinion on what bands are good and what metal is.

I know what is metal and what is not. Slipknot really are not metal. Have you not noticed their lyrics? They are unsurprisingly simple. And you think that Slipknot are metal. Technically speaking, however, they are not. It is more nu-metal. Nu-metal is actually Alternative Rock added with an X-Factor; anything with hip-hop, rap, or industrial references. It really is not metal. There is Industrial Metal but it necessarily is not in the same league as nu-metal. Really, if you think Slipknot are that cool, put miserably attempted growling and sucky melodic singing with jittery turntable scratching and rapped verses while playing some heavy guitar riffs and fast drumming on the line. Do you even call that metal?

If you are going to argue with me, then do it via PM. But do not say that nu-metal is metal because technically, it is not. Have a nice day.
 
Nu-Metal, to me, is only Metal by name. Now I'm not going to get in on this argument, I'm just simply putting my own 2 cents in.

Nu-Metal is basically a heavier version of Alternative Rock, that also include other musical influences like Rap, Funk or whatever. In terms of the genre of Metal, it really isn't Metal. But sadly, it is classed as Metal. Nu Metal makes Baby Jesus cry.

By the way Klonie, where's my apology? :lol: Just kidding.
 
Nu metal is metal i hate to say it but it is, Its the same with power metal etc that stuff sucks bad the singers sound like there been grabbed by the testicles but its still metal, not all metal has to have brutal gutteral vocals and blastbeats all through it, if you limit that to metal you are just been ignorant, thats why i just SJR so much becuse they incorporate so many style into there music but thats offtopic

Not really, it's an opinion thread, and that's your opinion.

Alot of 80's bands like Iron Maiden are classed as "Heavy Metal", as back then it was one of the heaviest bands around. Same with Black Sabbath, etc.

Metal has alot of variety.
 
Still, even if nu-metal is metal, it, in a technical sense, is not. This would be the same if Britney Spears would say that her music is metal and it is not. All that would be BS and it would spread like chaos in the music industry.

Define 'metal'. I don't see how Nu-Metal is not metal. Granted, most of it is ****, but I don't see how it doesn't fall under the metal categorty.

  • Dismemberment Plan are an absolutely amazing pop group.
  • I can't stop listening to Kool Keith and his many personas. He's fantastic.
  • Stereopathic Soul Manure by Beck is just that. His worst album.
  • If you don't like David Byrne, you're an idiot.
  • Dungen are the second-best non-Enlish speaking band. Number one is Sigur Ros.
  • Garbage are overproduced, but I don't care - they're great.
  • Interpol's newest album isn't all that great. But I'm probably just saying that because I'm comparing it to their amazing first album.
  • I don't really like Joe Satriani. Some of his songs are cheesy.
  • Manitoba are a fantastic Electronic Pop group and you haven't heard them. Shame on you.
  • The Scissor Sisters are incredibly unoriginal yet they pull it off for me. I don't get it.

Metal in the 80's was better than today because many of the "satanic" content was in the early 80's, some bands still contiue today.

I have to make a few changes:

I've been listening to the 70's, and some songs were cool (and bands, like Black Sabbath). So I'd take back what I'd said about the 70's.

The part of the "80's Satanic" stuff is somewhat true, but the real reason I like the 80's rock/metal, is that I got used to them. But I do listen to anything from 1969 (Black Sabbath) - to today.

As I'm writing this, I'm listening to Black Sabbath, song=N.I.B.

(BTW, sorry for bringing this old thread back. I just wanted to say that)

Thank you, around here it seems like Joe Satriani is some sort of god or something, and cheesy doesn't even begin to describe his music. I feel like I'm watching some corny "extreme sports" show everytime I listen to him. Those dumb-ass electric guitar wails just don't do it for me.

Sigur Ros kicks ass, too.

The Grateful Dead, Phish, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incidnet, Widespread Panic, Moe, Gov't Mule, or any other type of groove music, annoy's the hell out of me too. One of the saddest days of my life is when I heard the news that Jerry Garcia died. Cus that meant that his boring garbage would be getting some heavy air time. Another reason why this type of music irritates me, are the majority of fans that follow it, which are mostly deadbeats with no life dream other than to sell grilled cheese sandwhiches from the back of a rusted out VW Bus, dance around in mud and partake in a ludicrous amount of illicit drugs while preaching about peace and love. Go **** yourselfs and die you dirty hippies. :)

What's so bad about the music? It looks like you just hate it because you hate hippies. I don't really like hippies either, but I think Phish, String Cheese Incident, and The Grateful Dead are all incredible bands. You can't argue with the fact that the musicians in all of the bands are incredibly talented.
 
joe satriani is out of ideas. latest album was a bit naff. but then again if it wasnt for him thered be no kirk hammett....or larry lalonde :lol:. hes a bit crap on stage. songs are acceptable, good techniques.
as for his star pupil, steve vai, he is better though can produce some rather tasteless stuff but is damn fast and has a good singing voice
theres my rant. strangely i have most of their albums :lol:

I dunno, I think he's trying to make some sarcastic/ironic joke gone awry. I tend to do that sometimes so I've come to recognise it here 'n' there. Anyway, my (Un)Popular opinion is this:

Marilyn Manson, Methods of Mayhem (featuring Tommy Lee of Motley Crue), Rage Against The Machine, and Rammstein are the best bands ever. End of story. No more discussion. Ha!
 
Any band like The Roots, The Vines, The Strokes or anything like that I hate. :crazy: :crazy:

Dream Theater, Metallica, Joe Satriani, and Dredg are the best bands ever! IMO of course. :)

buckethead...is an amazing guitarist. problem is he wear a white mask and a kfc bucket on his head :odd: plus he is incredibly sick minded, listen to bucketheadland 2 and youll know what i mean example one song about being unemployed from a slaughterhouse and how hes going to murder everyone :odd:. basically hes created this whole story that he was raised by chickens and has his own theme park called buckethead land with the main features being the slaughterzone :odd: but then each album is completely different from the next and you get the real heavy and sick like bucketheadland 2 and then albums like colma and electric tears which are soft, mellow, beautifully crafted songs. hes an idiot, but knows how to make some brilliant tunes.

It is just, well...sarcasm, something that is a fine art, and the lowest form of wit, but who cares?
