Shifting Gears: H vs Sequential, vs paddle, what's your preference?

I prefer the paddle shifters when I'm playing more competitively, although the H shifter feels more authentic?? If that's the right word to use...

^ +1 Paddles naturally allow more quick gear changes down and up, the common consensus here will be H-Shifter for immersion and fun, switch to paddles for serious racing. If you don't switch to paddles you must like having fun at the back of the pack :)
The way GT5's clutch implementation works you just can't keep up with paddles on a straight ( I have drag tested vs friends ), because of that whole Clutch drama in prologue it seems they have put a more pronounced rev-drop between up-shifts. Even with double clutching, or giving it a clutch kick in 2nd coming out of corner your still slightly disadvantaged to paddles

Whichever one the car uses.

This one, if only G27 had a sequential stick.....there are many which use this configuration: WRC cars, so called manumatic ones (Tiptronic, Sportronic, etc). I also drive AT for cars only available with automatic gear. I love making errors with H-shifter: love putting in 3th gear instead of 5th :dunce:

To be honest, for hard challenges there is no choice: paddles

Stuck with a controller now.
But when I get a wheel (soon enough) I reckon it'd be H for standard races and the cars which have a H shifter and paddles for the cars which have paddles.
On controller I use sequential-like setup, right analog stick for shifting. Can't be bothered with R1/L1.

If the car I'm driving doesn't have an advanced sequential gearbox with paddles or a stick I use the H-shifter (which is most of the time because I rarely race actual race cars).

Not once have I felt at a disadvantage though I always use the clutch and H-shifter. Even during some "drag races" (coming out of a corner side by side and racing down a straight like in my Battle at Tsukuba video) I have never noticed any difference when shifting and you can't even hear the difference which makes me glad since I'd hate to drop shifting like this just to be more competitive. Having a third pedal and something to occupy your right hand with certainly adds a lot more to the game.

Doing heel and toe while desperately trying to control the Yellowbird or Stratos (with no ABS as an added bonus) on the nurburgring is when this game really feels at its best.

What's a Sequential stick, is it when you push it forward to change up, backwards for down, if so, I like it, no matter what I use it, never resort to paddles

I love the H shifter but it always get out of gear while I shift between 1st and 2end gear! Thats why I don´t use it online.

Am I doing something wrong? I can drive a real car and I have CSPedals so I´m not a newby at shifting but somethings very strange with the GT5 Clutch.
Help

For some reason gt doesn't allow you to shortshift, so going from 1st to 2nd you have to wait for a small time (with the clutch disengaged) before you shift it to second.

H with clutch on A-Spec and seasonal events (depending the car on real life), paddle on online races.

I think that H with clutch should be more rewarding for the ones who use it...

Nothing satisfies better than an H pattern, sad that these are slowly becoming a dying breed in the real world of sports cars.

My g25 can be switched between H & sequential & Paddles I m very surprised you cant do it on G27 as well !!

On topic i prefer to use the same shift as real cars , but paddles are much quicker .

Use the H-shifter when I wanna get immersed into the action in offline.

For serious racing though have to use the paddles.

Since I have the DFGT and since I use the sequential for handbrake and reverse I shift with paddles.

Paddles and H shifter. I just dont get the same feel with the clutch/ shifter on my g27 compared to real life so I end up letting out the clutch too early and it wont go into gear from time to time. So when I race I just use the paddles. But when Im lapping I like using the H-Shifter.
