You have a good point.
Although that means tuning them and changing the aero is disrespect.

No!

All Race cars numbers being changed is disrespectful to the memory and tribute to the authenticity of the race car being put into our game. Those race cars or supposed to be 100% replica.

Now if it was a custom car like a TC or RM or any GT5 Original or fake LM Race car that plays no role is actual real life racing then be my quest make it any number you want till the cows come home

I dont see how it would be disrespectful.

If you were to modify the livery maybe but its only the number.

exactly but on all race cars isnt it all so not possible to even do anything to them cosmetically in the first place?

Not in GT5, I was reminded how you can paint over any livery in Forza including the V8 supercars.

Changing the number I think is no big deal but destroying a racing teams livery that might be a bit far.

While the replica cars have their correct number and that's likely to stay as part of the 'replication', I think all cars should have a number, and yes we should be able to change them. However, I've yet to see a Motor race where the cars are not numbered at all!

Most of the Race Cars in GT5 were driven in specific races with specific numbers. This represents racing history so part of me wants to say the numbers should not be changeable. But since I am now "racing" these same cars against other people online, visual differentiation between identical cars is useful, so there's another part of me that wants to say the numbers should be changeable.

After much deliberation and a couple fistfights, the different voices inside of me have come to an agreement: YES the numbers should be changeable -- this is a video game after all, and we are not writing real automotive history.

Yes! The question in my poll was; "Would You Like The Option Of Changeable Race Numbers For All Cars?" 👍
I Voted yes in VBRs thread and i say yes here.

The option to change it personalizes it alil IMO

I think the option should be there, and for those who feel that changing the number would be horrible, then they of course wouldn`t do so.
I was in the seasonals and there were three of the cars I was driving, JTC or what ever the Japanese version of NASCAR is, so I thought I`d see if anyone felt the same way.

Not really. The cars would have had radically different configurations for different tracks anyway. They also don't seem to usually be set up for any particular track mentioned in their descriptions. And of course it's impossible to verify that anything about the default GT5 setup is accurate to what they ran in any real life race, and we do know that some of them are just plain wrong regarding horsepower and weight. I don't understand people's fascination with adding turbos to race cars(I especially love those "LMP 2" rooms allowing 950 horsepower), but I don't see anything particularly wrong with it. I would like to see online restrictions differentiate between changing the setup vs adding components however, as race cars are designed to be changed from track to track.

To the topic of numbers, I'm not sure. I think any fantasy race car should be changeable, and I can see it both ways for the real ones. On the one hand, those are real cars with some historical value and those numbers actually mean a lot to fans of those cars. On the other hand, it's a little weird having 16 #4 C5.Rs running around a track at the same time. There were also often other cars of the same type running for other teams with different numbers, and in some cases the numbers on the specific car in the game would have been changed as they competed in different series. I guess I'd probably say I'm about 60/40 yes, allow it. They are a part of history, but they are for us just what they were at the time, race cars for us to compete against other drivers with... not just for us to recreate history with.

So I`m guessing that anyone who feels that cars should remain exactly as the mfg./owner/team allowed them to be on GT, wouldn`t do anything to a car but maybe change the oil.
No changing paint/tires/susp./brakes/weight..., because that`s how it would be when it was purchased new.

My feelings toward the subject to the T.

Yeah, me too.
I like to drive my cars, I don`t really get into the history side so much, I`d exchange all my museum cards if I could get the #board option...

Same I just like drifting my cars for example one of my favourite cars to drift/drive is the 300zx simply because its easy to control while using my wheel and the steering lock is amazing (no other cars that has much steering lock as this car) but if I had a museum card for that car I would definitely read it.

They already are on RM cars. The problem comes with licensing, the Viper Oreca Race Cars used in Le Mans, have the actual numbers, and changing the numbers makes it a problem because it's changing the car and could not carry the Oreca name. General race cars that are race modded are appeared in no specific numbers should be changeable.

I don't think it's a licensing issue, I think it's a desire from PD to have an exact model of the real car and that includes the number.

I have all of the RM cars, how do you change the number on them?

When you take the view option from your garage you will see a 00 option at the bottom of the viewing screen. Hit that and then you get a few options for the font style and a slider control where you can select the number between 00 and 99 👍

Can`t speak for PD, but I seem to remember in a previous installment of GT, the "user car" was a shade different or had a different stripe on the front spoiler or something.
To be in a race w/3-4 look alike cars is asinine.
Speaking of silly, the new Corvette, two colors, only option is tires, non-adjustable trans, etc. WHY???

Shows how unobservant I am! Thanks.
