Right seen as though I'm the OP I guess this is my thread so I guess it is fair that I request for a mod or an admin to lock / delete this thread as it is clearly turning into a waste of time. So much for a little light hearted conversation.

Should the option to gift cars be removed ?

Well, If some generous members of this forum had not given me some interesting cars to play with, I doubt If I was still playing GT5. With so less time and other interesting race games to play instead of grinding, I simply can't see myself getting no where near the amount of money to get me a car I like, let alone a X1. So, in my case, the option to gift should NOT be removed, It helped me appreciate the game more. I am a working father, with may be 3-4 hours of PS3 time in a week, do the maths how long It would take to get me a fine car. By the way, I am at level 11, go figure.

What did you expect, genius??
That's what you get from starting a topic as stupid as this.

No... get off your pretentious high horses.

The game is a lot more fun now that I have access to a garage of interesting fast cars to pick for the various events.

I have a life and a job, so as a result I don't have days to grind credits to buy a single 15 million credit car, as opposed to some of the unemployed/schoolkids around here that have nothing better to do then grind Indy and act all self-righteous on this forum.

Get a life.

@MODS: please close this thread.

See there is another example of it ... I am not complaining about duping and I am not saying is does affect me, I just wanted to discuss which cars PD intended to be the rare ones and what the real rare cars have turned out to be thanks to the gifting option. Please stop trying to attack over and over.

Put that in your first post. Because as I read it, the first post doesn't say that at all.

However, how does banning gifting even fit into that? Gifting has no place in such a discussion.

Anyway, my view still stands. Rarity has no place in the game. Everyone, every car.

I think if you are a duping fanatic you are only cheating yourself out of the fun of the game, become bored quicker, and hence not get the full value of the game (in my opinion, of course). But it's a free country.

I can't tell you how wrong you are. Sure it's your opinion, but are you really trying to tell me you know how I'll enjoy the game more? If you are, you're mistaken. All the "you" 's in there should be "I". Those words don't apply beyond yourself.

Totally off-topic, but just noticed the influx of Dutchies in these thread in the last posts...

Back on-topic: Lets not be to harsh on the OP here, I dont think it was his intention to let this turn into a duping or no duping flame war... I would take Exorects advice here and maybe edit your first post or title to reflect your aims with this thread.

I like being able to trade. I do it without duping. It got a rally car that I couldn't find and somebody got a car they wanted. Where is the problem in that? Granted if I could have found said rally car in the UCD, I would have bought it. But it never appeared. Trading in my eyes is good. Plus it is a great way to get rid of cars that I bought before I won them.

Let's look at it from a completely non-dupe perspective for a second.

Let's say I have a Sauber Mercedes C9 in my garage. I see another one appear in the UCD, which I buy for trade-bait because it's a desirable car.

Because it's a desirable car, it's now become less rare (there are two in my garage, not just one). The only real advantage, besides for tuning reasons, to have a second copy of the car is for trading. So, because trading/gifting exists, the rare C9 becomes less rare. No duping necessary, this is built straight into the game and 100% legit from everybody's standpoint, dupers and non-dupers alike.

So the OP asks, should gifting be removed, so that 5 million credit C9's don't become more prevalent than the 6,000 credit Daihatsu Midget?

If this helps, duping can be left out of the conversation entirely. :)

Thanks for bringing some common sense into the debate.

It seems the only one really suffering from duping and trading is the Used Car Dealership... but he won't be out of business any time soon it seems. :sly:

Yeah, that dude always has a bunch of stuff, and he always seems to end up with at least half my cash...

But the s.o.b. never tells me when I've already bought the car before. lol

Getting back to the point

It may also be a case that people aren't listing every car in their garage, just their best.
Some people may also sell the lower spec cars.
Also as other people have mentioned not everyone uses mygranturismo.net

(The information above is not based on any facts, it's just an opinion and may not even be right)

Out of curiosity, if the X1 which is like THE trading currency of GT5 isn't rarity 1, what car is?

Maybe that's sort of the funny thing about it. In the real world, desirable also means harder to obtain (because people don't want to get rid of their desirable things). In GT5, the more desirable it is, the easier it is to get, because GT5 players can make as many as needed to meet the demand.

So in GT5, there's no such thing as a rare AND desirable car, except for cars that can't be found in the UCD, and are unable to be spread through other means. I guess that might include the Stealth cars.

It would be fine with me if they got rid of it. Better yet if they never had it in the first place. I've played several other racing games and none of them had trading, and it never occurred to me that any of them should.

Most people collect the most expensive cars first and by the time they start collecting all the cars (if they even bother) they might not continue to updat their garage on that website. Most of the cars that I see at 10 are actually rare because they do not pop up in the UCD very often: I have almost every car and those I am missing are closer to 10s. They also tend to be cars that are often found in multiple varitions: Eunus Roadster, MX-5 Miata, etc (it's simply very difficult to remember which models you have and don't have). People tend to collect those with more memorable unique names first. Also you can see trends: American cars are more popular (less rare) than Japanese cars which are less popular (more rare).

I don't think gifting should be removed but if you wanted to limit it, I think they should restrict giftiing more to actual friends: i.e. maybe the person on your friend's list must have been there for a week or more before you can gift to each other. Gifting to the same PSN should be removed. etc.

So you don't see the need, and therefore nobody should use it?

Once again, there's no problem as it is. It doesn't need to be restricted.

I don't think PD intend any car to be rare. They do intend to make some cars harder to get. What you face is a decision. I say this because.

1. If you play the game as intended, you can win 4 X1. How rare is that?

2. All expensive premium cars are at the dealer. You can buy it anytime once you save enough credit. Always available means not rare.

3. All used cars do show up every once in a while (expensive or not). The question is did you waste all your credit on 5 Skylines, 2 Miata before the LM car shows up.

If you look at the UCD database, all cars are there. Some show up more frequent than the other of course but you will come across them every 1-2 hundred days or so.

I didn't start collecting cars until level 30 (about game day 900). I've been playing seasonal and Dream Car (with different cars). That $1 credit every 5 days enough for me to buy all the UCD that comes through that door. After 600 days. I've seen every car at least once or twice and bought about 700 of them.

It would be fine with me if they got rid of it. Better yet if they never had it in the first place. I've played several other racing games and none of them had trading, and it never occurred to me that any of them should.

I've played several other racing games and none had regular seasonal events and updates for free. Let's benchmark and get rid of that. Then people at the Seasonal Event forum will stop complaining about strict/not strict/late/canceled/too little payout/too much payout/too short/too long/difficult/easy... too.

Anyone else think that the ability to gift cars should be removed?

It's because of the duplication cheat you can do in GT5, which is why these cars are now so common. If GT5 didn't allow game saves to be copied onto USB's (which was enabled in update 1.03 I think), this wouldn't happen. PD needs to lock save game data so it can't be copied.
Gifting, in general, should be accepted.

My rarest car was a Mazdaspeed Atenza at 10... got a laugh out of that!

Why does anyone even care? You will never ever be special for having a particular car. There are thousands of cars, and millions of players. Even if there was no trading and you got an X1 you are in no way special.

Duping/gifting is a glorious thing and saves people hours of time to actually get a car that those tedious, obsessive plebs spent 3 days solid on Indy to obtain. Whereas I can spend 5 seconds to get a pal to dupe one for me then go out and experience the joys of girls, sunlight or actually just play GT5 rather than grinding the same shambles of an event that is the Indianapolis 5 lap race.

No, I see no problem at all with the ability to gift cars to people on your friends list. When the seasonals were still heavily restricted, it was very nice being able to share a car or two with friends to save money and time figuring out effective tuning setups.

Duping and the birthday exploit have already killed any kind of rarity to sought after or effective cars. People will always seek out ways to cheat or find easy methods to get their ends; and that's not just in video games. Like others have said, just because a person has the car doesn't mean they can drive it.

What I do think needs to be changed though, is that PD add an active trading method. I'm not very tech savvy so have no clue how hard it would be to program; but they should have some method of exchanging cars with people in the same lobby when they are not racing. 1 car for 1 car from their favorites list, no credits or paint chips etc. involved. A pop-up window that shows the thumbnail / icons for the 2 cars & their names. Being able to see what parts if any are already with the cars is mostly irrelevant. Each player would have to click either accept or decline to make the exchange.

I never got to use it, but there was some sort of trading method between memory cards in other GTs, wasn't there? The lack of a Trading system was probably the most surprising thing about this game after I got it, especially if PD is trying to establish any sort of community fan-base for the series.

Sorry if this was said somewhere else in the thread, I only had time to read the 1st & last page.

👍

Why people care what others do is beyond me. It is just a video game. I'd hate to see how these people act about things that really matter in life.

Doesn't matter what others are doing - I'm going to get the X2010 by my own graft. Anyway, they'll be selling them in the Store before too long, like all those "can't be bothered to play' upgrades you can buy for Burnout Paradise etc.

Ask yourself this instead:

Should the option to b!tchslap whiners be implemented?

Less rare, but you'd be the only one to know that. If you refer to the mygranturismo.net rarity index, it does count only one cars per model and per user.

On more general comment, the only purpose of this index is to give an information when coming to car exchange in a quest for collecting cars: exchanging a high ranked car mean your next step to completion would be easier, as it'll be easier to find someone who owns the remaing cars.
Beyond collecion, it has no practical use.

the value for X1 should be on -1,000,000 by now, its not hard to find an online lobby full of them, isn't gifting cars great

When we're talking about gifting/trading, obviously the creation of a second copy applies to a situation when a copy is then gifted or traded to another. So, this obviously affects the rarity.

We're not talking about one guy making multiple copies and keeping them, we're talking about using the copies for gifting and trading.
