Nice. make the thread even longer.

You DO remember the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, don't you?

I'm sure my 199 posts of comments are causing significant grief, where your 7,500 are providing a wealth of knowledge which will benifit the masses for eons.

If I comment as I read, then others may comment in the meantime between any future posts I may provide. If I continue to edit the same post over the course of 20 minutes or more, then those who read my origional are not likely to go back and reread it JUST IN CASE I might have added to it. You're just looking for something to complain about. I'm moving on to pertinant comments that have some value.

We don't need to start arguing here guy's, were all just stating our opinions on the matter, if your opinion is different that in no way makes the other person wrong.

Indeed. That's why I was voted GTP's Most Helpful and Most Knowledgeable member in last year's GTP Awards.

But in the meantime you're combatting excessively long threads by repeatedly making multiple posts. Go you!

Do you even know what a "ricer" is? How does the fact that less than a 50 shot won't blow up a stock motor equal that comment?

the definition of ricer is in my sig

Lethalchem is obviously ignorant to the FamineLight.

I have a question - no one seems to be doing a good job of agreeing on just what nitrous oxide does. My only 'experience' (which I don't consider it to be) comes from NFSU and wonderful movies of that mould. The 'dry shot' would be the pills people are talking about, wet shot is, what exactly? Is a nitrous oxide system always on like one member suggested, is it only activated at certain speed/RPM levels, is it driver activated (seems to be the latter)? When you consider the chemical composition of air it makes sense that throwing N20 into your engine has the same effect as forcing more air into it - but by that figuring, wouldn't forcing straight, clean oxygen mean better combustion and better power? Why don't we have O2 systems out there?

Nitrous oxide adds the element of the unknown to racing because, with a turbo your power levels are always going to be the same (be simple with me, I know spooling and such has an effect in terms of boost pressure), and so once you see how fast an opponent's car can go, you know that's all you have to allow for. With nitrous oxide, they're suddenly going to be able to surprise you when you least desire it, and I think it's that element that annoys people and makes them think of it as 'cheating', because that sudden surprise wasn't necessarily derived as a result of good engine or car tuning. But, by that same token we've had discussion about buying various brands of fuel, which would equate to the same thing. If you're going to implement N20, you first need to free up a button ;) but you're also going to need to let people fiddle with their fuel settings in my opinion - changing a car to run lean through to rich in terms of fuel combustion is far more common than nitrous oxide in professional racing.

BTW, before anyone brings it up, I don't care about drag racing or how sanctioned, recognised, respected, international and professional it is, it does nothing for me whatsoever and I'm annoyed it's taking up disc space.

I think it would be OK. Not for anything online tho (except drag..maybe). That would just ruin it, Because one person does it and theres no catching up.. (well.. ya kno). I would like to play with it in "Run and setting" and aracde and what not, really test out that "sense of speed" thats so talked about.. But as actually using in online or 2P battle, no, cuz it wouldnt be fair. But I do think it would be fun to mess with by yourself.

Ok fist of all N20 is able to store more oxygen in a smaller area the regular O2. I believe it has something to do with the pressure N2O is able to stay at. Secondly the difference in between wet and dry nitrous is in when it is put into the system. I believe dry is when the N2O is added in the intake with air and then that mixture combines with fuel. Wet is when it is added after the fuel air mixture after the carb or fuel injectors. Dry is the easiest to set up, that is why it is common in most applications. Wet yields more power but is harder to set up and tune(I can't remember why this is).

On activation, every system is different, usually you press a button to turn the system on but the system doesn't working until the throttle is all the way open. I think other people have mentioned the 50hp shot, but basically you can control the amount of power your car makes through the use of different N2O injectors.
On the issue of boost vs. nitrous, Boost is not always controllable. Haven't you heard of boost creep? This is when the turbo spins more boost than the blowoff valve can handle and boost level go astronomic. I doubt this is ever going to be included in GT but it is good to mention for comparison.

Any ways I am against nitrous

Thanks for that 👍 I mentioned that boost does indeed vary but not as unpredictably as someone firing a shot of nitrous oxide into their engine.

...but nitrous isnt CHEATING!!! yea some racetracks ban nitrous, so that means no one who buys GT4 wants it? i have an idea! 💡 just DONT buy the nos!

*EDIT*
...and if you're racing against someone online you could have rules in your race that ban nitrous so it would be "fair" :dopey:

Not some, almost all racetracks, at least outside of the usa where there's real racing, ban nitrous in competition.

Real racing.

I agree.

What about Indy, ALMS, Nascar, NHRA!

BTW, the top dragsters in the NHRA rely heavily on thier power!

ALMS goes by the LeMans rules.

NASCAR no.. They turn left... and go, thats it.

Not in sim mode, maybe as an option in arcade mode though, that might be fun.

But for Talledega. (Sry is misspelled) They could use it on the long straight. J/P.

But yeah, ALMS, and ELMS both uses Le Mans rules.

Some lad said nitrous is a very complicated and hard set up and is a great part of racing.

bull****

say a 75hp shot of nitrous from say a Zex kit is ****ing childs play to anyone who knows a little about cars. It's not complicated, it's simple, and stupid.

I don't know about America, cause your rules are wacky, but in most of the world nitrous in a road car is illegal, so you have to hide it ;), basically, the main point of nitrous in a turbo drag car is to eliminate lag.

I still don't want nitrous in any GT game, look at the name Gran Turismo, it has nothing to do with drag racing and should never in the future, but in PDs infinite wisdom they made the game so realistic and amazing you could drag down the 1/4 mile anyways, or set up for drift or whatever, brilliant, anyways, it's still gran turismo, if it were Drag Master 8000, then fine have nitrous, but it's not, drag racing is going to be a tiny, and pointless part of GT4, and one that i'll spend the least ammount of time on, really i don't care how fast i can tune a car to run in a video game down a straight line, i'd use it to test stock cars, that's what i do in GT3, and correct me if i'm wrong but no stock car has ran nitrous? *except one or two, can't remember*

anyways, what button do you want to go "blurry effects ohhh look at it, and speed boost nitrous", most nitrous set ups are through the efi system, and are activated by a manager whenever you've tuned it to, typically full throttle, so you could have that too, BUT the common idiot who plays racing games only knows two ways of pressing a accelerator button, on or off. So you're common lads going to be running nitrous through their system while their in neutral. Awesome, and no doubt so realistic.

Also, who's been talking about media hype, saying us people who don't like nitrous systems in GT4, (and me who doesn't like them in general) are just taken in by the media hype! that's ridiculous, what's the media all about in this scene? Nitrous is brilliant and it's "cool" makes your car go fast. Jeez, it's the other way around, you've been taken in by the hype, we see through it.

No i'm not some idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about, i know alot about nitrous systems and their useless application, that's why i don't like them, and don't want them, sure they're fun, especially in a 4wd GSR, but they're just stupid and impractical.

BUT

I have an idea that might just work.

You american chaps can have nitrous, and everywhere else can go without it.

There are street racers in Japan who use it to, but only to street race on the highways.

No thank you. We already have too great of a rice problem in the states, i fear this would only encourage it.

Since when was street racing professional motorsport?

There was a picture of Nascars racing at Watkins Glen in the latest AutoAction in Australia, and I saw it and thought "heh, Darin would hate to see that".

Well I guess if regular drag racing is a motorsport then you could consider street racing an unsanctioned motorsport.

I go to the glen almost every year to watch scca regionals. It seems like there are no fans there though. Only crews setting up for the nascar race

Not to mention Sears Point.

mm I read that they're off to the Infineon raceway isn't it?

Nascar? Hmm...I didn't know that. The only 2 road courses I've heard of them racing on is just Sears Point, and Watkins Glen.

Yeah I hadn't heard they were racing there either. Oh well its not like that makes me want to watch it (Cue guilty feeling for wanting to watch something as horrid as nascar)

I'll usually watch Nascar if its at either
Texas Motor Speedway
Talledega
Daytona 500 Race
Or at any of the road courses.

I would love to go see Nascar at TMS, but I do not have the money to afford a ticket for it, nor the IRL.

Mainly I sneek in the last ten minutes. cant stand to watch 3 hours of circle track.

Not alot can. BUt back to the topic.

NOS, should it be on? Or should it not?
I voted not. The GT series has done fine without NOS, just like it has done fine without Ferraris or Lamborghinis.

That's terrible reasoning, McLaren.

Sure it's done fine, but why not make it better? I'm all for adding REALISTIC features to the game. One of those just happens to be the addition of various nitrous oxide systems. It's used in actual, sanctioned racing events.

Why are some of you so very, very, very thick? I really don't get it.

Some of us feel it will ruin the game. It would only fit in with drag mode. But circuit racing, no.

What you feel doesn't matter. What I feel doesn't matter. Gran Turismo is apparently a realistic simulator. If you want a game that doesn't realistically simulate driving, maybe you should just stop playing Gran Turismo.

I've yet to see a single reasonable answer as to why it shouldn't be in GT4. I've only seen a couple hundred half-witted responses as to why it shouldn't be.

If nitrous is allowed in sim mode it really wouldn't have much of an effect on a race unless it was very close at the end. I think the nitrous concept would be best implemented in drag racing where it would have the most noticable effect. It just wouldnt add that much to a 10 or 15 lap race. But for drag racing I see no problem.
