Sick's Race Room - great racing with a classic flavour - now on Project cars 2PS4

We are going to be running Stirling Moss Season 2 on Monday.

Also we start on shortly, Colin Chapman Tribute on Wednesday.

So if you want to join these have look at the thread.

Hello,

I am interested in joining the Monday sessions. Can join from Season 3 (saloons) onwards.
Are there spaces?

Hi Chris

Yes - we have space for you. We currently have a few spaces on Mondays and Wednesdays. Just send a Friend Request to Sick_Cylinder2

We are about to do Season 2 with the classic Aston Martin for 6 rounds then will start classic saloon racing. The Aston is a huge amount of fun - join before season 3 if you can (and to guarantee a slot for season 3).

Hey guys, I'm switching back to day work starting Monday. Unfortunately I won't be able to race on Monday's anymore since it's at 12:30 pm my time. It was great racing with you guys and if I happen to have the day off I will hop on and race with you guys.

Never heard of him Sick, think it will be a interesting watch.

Yes - definitely an interesting watch - Tommy Byrne - possibly the most naturally gifted driver of his era, but sadly without the personality and maturity to turn that into results at the top level. Reminds me slightly of Anthony Gobert - possibly the most naturally gifted rider I've ever witnessed, but who partied his talents away.

That's a shame Alex, but work comes first. Thanks for the kind words and welcome back any time!

Hi Chris - are you still interested? If so I'll reserve a slot for you!

Anthony Gobert haven't heard of him ether, what did he race in.

Australian rider - Motogp for Suzuki and MZ, World Superbikes for Kawasaki and Bimota, AMA Superbikes for Ducati - sadly a great talent wasted on drugs and booze - the George Best of motorcycling, but without the charm.

George Best - the footballer, famously said,"I spent a lot of money on cars, women and booze - the rest I just wasted."

Yes never seen him ride, just missed 500s so late when got into Moto GP.

He was astonishing - at his best he could take a visibly slower bike and make the World's best riders seem almost ordinary in comparison. Enjoy this short clip John:

Note to all Racers - I've amended the Monday 2017 Programme slightly. After further testing I've matched the BMW 2002 Turbo against the classic Ford Mustang and the Mercedes AMG saloon against the BMW 2002 Stance Works. The Ford Escort RS1600 will now race on its own in a one make series.

I might have seen him in Worldsuper Bikes, got in to that just before Carls accident.
Colin Edwards, Franco Cille, Troy Corser and Neil Hoggson.

By then he was racing in America, of which he once said, "I ate a lot of burgers - I decided to see how fat I could get and still win races."

He didn't have a mature attitude to fitness and training!

Looking forward to these cars. Will you continue to use forced interior view sick?

Yes - they all have an excellent interior view with no obstructions or limits to vision. I won't be selecting any cars which are difficult to see out of.

I put the Ford Escort in its own one make series because it is too fast for the Mustang and BMW Turbo, but too slow to race with the BMW Stance Works and Mercedes AMG. It would be nice if SMS could add a competing car to race against it in Project Cars 2 - an Alfa Romeo GTA would be nice!

Will the Lotus cars not be to fragile with full damage?

If they were built by Colin Chapman - possibly, but they were built for the game by SMS employees so hopefully they will be ok (we can keep damage under review).

"Any car which holds together for a whole race is too heavy" - Colin Chapman.

"When I notice a rear wheel overtaking me, I know I'm sitting in a Lotus" - Graham Hill

All open wheel cars in game can have wheels get knocked off as easily as on real racing. You can also go airborne if you run your front tire over his back tire just like in real racing...I absolutely love the way all open wheelers in pcars drive and react...damage on is so much more exciting I think just be super careful around AI boys!!!

Congrats to father and son Simba Flacco!!!
Great race!!
Also to PaulBee (welcome back) who flew thru the pack to take 3rd...Great driving Paul!
Everyone raced another beautiful, clean race!!! We all need to spread the word online how great our league is and how clean the racing is...Get more right kind of members!!! I am recruiting right now among those I have raced with elsewhere...Anyone else?
Sick, thanks again for putting all this together!

Just a reminder to everyone that it is the Test Round 0 for our new Wednesday Series today (5th April). If you haven't already signed up, just send a Friend Request to Sick_Cylinder2 (Note I use Sick_Cylinder on the PS3.

Today: Colin Chapman Tribute Series Season 1 - Lotus Type 51 Formula Ford

Like almost all drivers who made it to top of Motor Racing since the introduction of Formula Ford, Tiff Needell raced in this category - the big difference however is that he won a Lotus Type 69 in a competition. His car was similar to the one we are using, but a slightly later type incorporating some improvements. Also by this time the category had switched from the 1500 Cortina GT engine to the new 1600 Cortina unit. Tiff now has that historic car back and drives it in this clip at the Lotus test track:

I've noticed some issues with some of the tracks which are included in the schedule above.

Classic Silverstone: i've tried a couple of mp-sessions on this track and the game freezed/crashed everytime. This is an old issue, noticed by the devs but the problem is unfortunately still there and will be until pcars2 comes out.

I've read about these problems a long time ago but thought they already been patched and taken care of, but...

Unfortunately Longspread was proved right - the Classic Silverstone layout is not viable for online racing. During Round 1 of the Lotus Type 51 (Formula Ford) Championship we had to switch to Silverstone International half way through the meeting and run an abbreviated programme.

I have checked the calendars for 2017 and we are not due to visit Silverstone Classic again. It won't be put into the 2018 calendar until I am certain that it is bug free - hopefully Project Cars 2 will have fixed those bugs and will be out by that time.

@buybon355 is the very smart looking gentleman in your profile picture you? If so, that is one impressive man cave - more like a "Man Cavern"

The smart looking gentleman is me yes, but the rig was at the TAG Heuer stand in Baselworld last month. Got to try out GT Sport, which is awesome by the way. Topped the time sheets for the duration of the show! If fairness, the rest of the folk trying it were not gamers, but still, enjoyed the moment.

Hey Sick, if GT Sport turns out to be as good as advertised do you envision going with your league on that game instead of pcars 2 perhaps??

Anything is possible Skip and I wouldn't rule anything out. Which game people prefer depends on what is important to them. I expect GTS to have better visuals, better replays, better photo mode, less bugs, better hand controller support, more polish and generally a more complete and polished feel - also probably better online options for hosts with things like reverse grid and other options which make holding short races easier, together with greater popularity so easier to find a casual race. However at the moment it looks like most of the important (to me) cards are in the deck of Project Cars 2 - dynamic time and weather, real track 3, better sounds, more cars, accurate car classes, historic cars, rally cross, more tracks.
