Single file sucks. I fancy the double-line rolling starts that they use in Super GT: much more realistic. Standing starts, though not too realistic, are great fun too.
robbo6By not realistic you mean the behaviour of the cars right? i.e. no power squirm.
By not realistic, I mean they don't show up too much in real life.By not realistic you mean the behaviour of the cars right? i.e. no power squirm.
True, this.Standing starts because they actually require some element of skill.

Think, other than F1, how many racing series start from a standstill? I have attended quite a few road races and nearly all of them started rolling, after a pace lap.
True, this.
And to all of those complaining about the lack of standing starts in GT5, what about online races? And A-spec single-make races? Both standing.
jonny_goddardi hate rolling starts, i always choose standing when online
You get rolling starts regardless... Or were you referring to the penaltied "jump" start you were choosing from?

parabullaHuh? Raced last night with standing starts, did something change overnight?
Ah, well I suppose I was basing my opinion solely on what I observe. Everything I've been to (ALMS, IRL, Grand-Am, MotoGP, and various other road races) was a rolling start.Almost all racing series in Australia at least use a standing start, bar the gt series or the formula 5000. Infact, I would say most racing series use standing starts. Without doing much research on my phone, only Gt cars, NASCAR and indy cars don't. Correct me if I'm wrong there.
Standing starts all the way!

I was at the 2011 round at Laguna and though I wasn't at the start/finish when the race began, I'm pretty sure they rolled a slow lap and then took off from there. Maybe your right about it being American; everything I've seen at Laguna was rolling.MotoGP uses a rolling start? I didn't think so. Most moto racing uses a standing start, though I think AMA toyed with rolling starts for a little while recently. Their endurance racing series - was Moto-ST, then I think Moto-GT - may have used rolling starts as well, not even sure if they are still around.
I think rolling starts are a primarily American thing, though not exclusively of course.

The rolling starts in single player are a means to artificially create a challenge for the player by spreading out the crappy AI for you to pass.
