Does anyone prefer the single file rolling starts? If so......WHY?!!!!! Please note.....not including double file rolling starts, as they are accurate within some rules.

Single file sucks. I fancy the double-line rolling starts that they use in Super GT: much more realistic. Standing starts, though not too realistic, are great fun too.

By not realistic you mean the behaviour of the cars right? i.e. no power squirm.

I like to add just a little wiggle to my standing starts...just to make it more cinematic :D I don't really like how PD got rid of the standing starts, it completely took the fun out of launching the CTR2 sideways past everyone

By not realistic, I mean they don't show up too much in real life. :)

Think, other than F1, how many racing series start from a standstill? I have attended quite a few road races and nearly all of them started rolling, after a pace lap.

As long as the cas are all starting at the same time I don't mind. The format in the seasonal events is very annoying. What kind of race is that supposed to be simulating, starting in a rolling start 30 seconds behind? And don't say it's a 'catch up after falling back' scenario because you need to go several seconds a lap faster than the slow AI to catch them.

My preference is standing starts. The rolling starts are good for the AI/Seasonal challenges, but when I'm racing heads up against a fellow competitor(s) I want to be on their door or on their bumper.

I prefer standing starts, but if the series that is being replicated has rolling starts then, so be it.

Standing starts because they actually require some element of skill.
True, this.

And to all of those complaining about the lack of standing starts in GT5, what about online races? And A-spec single-make races? Both standing.

oh, dunno about that WTCC, BTCC, GP2, Porsche Supercup, Oz V8s. A lot of the BTCC support racing all does standing starts. Dunno About other countries tho.

I don't do online, but the A Spec single makes....never knew that did standing starts....I'll give that a go, as I don't need much cash now.

I absolutely love the grid starts... I actually race MORE in my created courses than in arcade mode because of this... The fact of the ai controlling 16 cars into the first turn is breathtaking sometimes... I absolutely hated it when it was introduced into gt4... I still play gt3 numerous amounts of times during the day because of this... Gt3 also had more grueling and interesting endurances too... 100 laps on tokyo route 246... But thats a different story,

You get rolling starts regardless... Or were you referring to the penaltied "jump" start you were choosing from?

Huh? Raced last night with standing starts, did something change overnight?

Almost all racing series in Australia at least use a standing start, bar the gt series or the formula 5000. Infact, I would say most racing series use standing starts. Without doing much research on my phone, only Gt cars, NASCAR and indy cars don't. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

Standing starts all the way!

Sorry, i have no clue what i was thinking there... Disregard my comment please.. Must have thought you were referring to arcade and online mode at the same time somehow... ?

Standing start all the way! But PD should make the AI overpower their car too sometime when accelerating, not everyone should have TC enable, espacialy those car that dont come with it.
I found a race in Aspec that still use standing start, the Miata enduro!!

Ah, well I suppose I was basing my opinion solely on what I observe. Everything I've been to (ALMS, IRL, Grand-Am, MotoGP, and various other road races) was a rolling start.

MotoGP uses a rolling start? I didn't think so. Most moto racing uses a standing start, though I think AMA toyed with rolling starts for a little while recently. Their endurance racing series - was Moto-ST, then I think Moto-GT - may have used rolling starts as well, not even sure if they are still around.

I think rolling starts are a primarily American thing, though not exclusively of course.

I was at the 2011 round at Laguna and though I wasn't at the start/finish when the race began, I'm pretty sure they rolled a slow lap and then took off from there. Maybe your right about it being American; everything I've seen at Laguna was rolling.

The rolling starts in single player are a means to artificially create a challenge for the player by spreading out the crappy AI for you to pass.

Moto Gp is definitley standing start, as is most motorcycling I watch, WSB, BSB. I used to watch AMA but sort of lost interest when Spies left, but it was all standing starts when I did watch.

Rolling starts are used for World wide GT racing too, Le Mans, LMES, FIAGT, SGT, ALMS (as mentioned). Haven't seen DTM for a while, that's a weird one to classify, more like GT rules than Touring cars....but I think they have standing starts.

That, sadly, cannot be argued against. The Ai *is* better but not much of a challenge (unless you use inferior tyres).

My 2 favourite series' F1 and V8 supercars both use standing starts, makes it more exciting to see if they can all get moving off the line :p

MotoGP definately doesn't, but the rest I already mentioned as ones that do (grand am under gt class cars, although the prototypes aren't, and alms are gt cars).
