If only I'd known... imagine how many hours of frustration I could've saved myself.

Does that really work?

Lol@Stig, reminiscing about the good 'ol days at the ripe age of 14.

Just tried it, and can confirm it does work, so long as you don't crash into anything. For some reason the green trees past the second monster seem to shuffle from side to side a little.

Find out for yourself.

A few days ago, I was talking to a group of fourth graders, and in the conversation, I picked up something interesting. I found that they all had grown up on Halo.

It was worse when I was talking to my friends about ski free, and they had no idea what I was talking about.

So, yeah. I'm always having feelings of nostalgia, especially with my second memory, my father getting me to play ski free.

Oh boy. So much for our future generations.

yeah, world would be better place if they had grown up with Crash Bandicoot and Sonic The Hedgehog..

The "Doom" days are upon us...

Y'know... Doom? Shooter?

Sprite-based qausi-3D?

Monsters throwing fireballs?

No, no... not Half-Life2.... it's got zombies!

No, no... it's not Left For Dead either...

I give up.

Love that post! 👍

Oh man, SkiFree brings back so many memories. It (randomly) prompted me to Wikipedia Descent, Earthworm Jim and the original Doom.

I saw this recently too. Don't download it drom the Internet. I got the Total Secuity Virus from it. It's horrible.

Also, there are many buttons that were used in that game that many peopl didn't know. You can do flips but double clicking the mouse. F makes you go fast and S slows you down. You can even go up at the start.

Also, if you beat the snowman by pressing F, another one comes....and another until you get bored.

Now that was a game I wasted my youth on!

Descent was awesome, eh? Loved that game, even if the robots seemed kinda scary at age 10.

Not so much Sonic the Hedgehog but Crash Bandicoot indeed. I believe the first video game I ever played was Bandicoot on PS1, oh the good old days when I was 4 years old and ps1's were 800 dollars...

Was that a dig at something? I can't even remember the first game I played, but I definitely grew up with all the old school Super Marios, Zelda on NES, all the old Mortal Combats...Sure, we had Sonic too, and I bought the first Crash Bandicoot at one time, but neither are what I grew up on.

Man, if you don't get something that obvious from Portal its, well, obvious that you've never played. And you should, right now.

Ski Free... :) Brings back memories... LOL... Saw someone also mentioned Descent... Awesome game... What about Rise of the Triad and Day of the Tentacle... Or the Monkey Island series... Or even the old school Leisure Suit Larry games where you had to type commands in ... LOL... the good ole days... Who would have thought that in the current day and age you can have a whole racing rig in your house to play racing games... When I was young I had to go to the Arcade to do that... :D Funny thing was that when everyone else was playing on the NES and other gaming consoles I was always playing PC games... Then PC gaming caught on and I switched to consoles... Funny the way things go.

-Edit: Or who could forget Wing Commander??? :)

When I saw this comic a few days ago and tried the pressing 'F' thing I pretty much sat in my chair speechless like the girl in the comic. I don't know what to believe anymore. Life will never be the same. :(

I can remember years and years ago playing it every time I went by my aunt and uncles house, always trying to see if I could outrun the monster but failing miserably. If only I had known...

That brings back some memories. Waking up on a Saturday to the smell of my parents coffee and the sound of the computer (same one I'm using now mind you, it's 10 years old) booting up windows 95. Makes me think of Roller coaster Tycoon for some reason.

See, you are too young for Sonic. :p Sonic > Crash. I used to waste a lot of time playing Mr.Do at the arcade (I was 3-4 at the time), Pitfall or Dig Dug on the Atari 2600, then Mario on the NES, then Sonic on the MegaDrive/Genesis. Also all the games on tape on the Commodore 64, then Great Giana Sisters & Test Drive on Amiga, and the original games like Elite and Flight Simulator on the PC.

And kids these days whinging about how the graphics and feedback are with driving games like GT5P & FM3....try driving four laps on the old original Pole Position then come back to us.

*added bit* @ Portal, yes that took some time out of my life too. :O

I knew that, somehow I had access to the readme or control scheme of skifree when I was around 11. You can run from the monster in fast mode whilst moving left or right and he is the same speed as you. I was like...cool, fast mode.

@Blitz187: How appropriate, you fight like a cow.

You young'uns don't know anything. Y' don't know nuthin' till you've gone dungeon crawling in ASCII. :dopey:

Ha! I grew up playing real games.. such as Wizards of Pwor, Sopwith 2, Alleycat, Dig Dug, Solomons Key.. original test drive, Wing Commander 1, 2, Commander Keen.. and that's just the computer games. we had a lot of games for NES, SNES, Sega..
