What DID your statistics prove? The R34 Skyline is slower around the Nurburgring than a number of much newer cars. Well spank my ass, that's a shock. It's slower to a point a quarter of a mile away than some cars with twice the power. Gosh, another surprise.

What else did your statistics prove? Well, you listed a number of cars in one section only. Why no Supra around the Ring - could it be because it's slower? This proves that your opinion is fundamentally biased and you ignore any "statistics" which do not fit in with you preconceived ideas.

I simply listed various cars, most of which are equal or less in power to the Skyline, that you yourself said wouldn't stand a chance against the Skyline R34 GTR. I aslo threw a few cars that perform better for the buck. My opinion wasn't biased. Sorry that the Skyline isn't that impressive.

Ignoring, of course, the Porsche 911.

Thats completely not true. I didn't make **** up. And if I didn't list a car under a certain catagorey, its because I didn't find it. But I'm sure, looking at the pattern, that even if I did find every time for the cars I listed, the Skyline would still be in last.

Well, as I hear, in Japan a brand new one, or one in factory condition, would sell between $45k-$50k. But for me, one would cost $90k.

Oh, and I can buy a $30,000 Caterham which would kill every car yet mentioned in this thread from 0-60mph, 0-100mph, 0-1/4 mile, around the 'Ring and for fuel economy. Top speed is a little low maybe. But still. zOMg! Best cah eVah!!!one1!

You guys think all these 8 second skylines running around have like 5,000 dollars worth of mods to them....... the reality is there has been more than 50,000 poured in. The only reason the skyline is such a hit with the tuners is because it has a rock solid AWD system that can handle insane amounts of power and because of a bullet proof motor that can handle high amounts of boost stock and ALOT of boost (1.5bar+) with mods. In reality though the stock skyline is pretty average at best. Very spirited and great handling (for a car of its size) but still average. IMHO if japan was to raise the "gentlemans agreement" of 280ps......... THEN and ONLY THEN will japans sports cars be truly on top in all sectors (handling, raw speed..ETC).

Untill then FAOLIU05 and STI04........save youre breath because people have been brainwashed by ...........YES GT, NFS and other car games. Not to mention the countless numbers of highly modified skylines running around. (that have had LOTS of money poured in)

I don't give a rat's ass about "the Skyline". I've stated for you twice that I'm no fan of the Skyline. What I can't stand is liars who manipulate figures to prove their opinion, rather than people who critically analyse figures to form one.

You haven't named the sources of your stats. I've come across a site I believe you may have sourced stats from (just the one - because of course just using one source makes stats official, obviously), then massaged just the Z06 figures up and just "the Skyline" figures down. Every other figure you mention is accurate to that source and every missing figure you mention is missing from that source.

Then of course you've missed out two other cars you've mentioned - the TVR Tuscan S and the Ferrari Testarossa (one more expensive and slower and the other more expensive and faster) - that you'd rather have.

Let me spell it out for you.

Corvette - 400hp, 5.7 litres, 2 seats.
Skyline - 300hp, 2.6 litres, FOUR seats.

Why you are SO intent on comparing a selection of two seater sports cars (Z06, Tuscan, Testarossa) to a four-seater luxury saloon car just baffles me. Why you're also hanging on the fact that a 400hp car is quicker over a quarter mile than 300hp car is equally confusing. Then again, blinkered fanboy reasoning rarely makes sense.

Yeah... The Evo is not a 400hp coupe, nor is the STi or S4. Neither the 350Z or M3 have 400hp. I compared them to the Skyline as well. And I'm comparing the Corvette to the Skyline because they're both within the same price range. And the Corvette is capable of being a daily driver, just like the S4, STi, Evo, M3, RS6, and 350Z. One again Famine, you're trying to make me look biased and ignorant, when I in fact I did fairly compare the Skyline R34 GTR to cars of its class, like the STi, Evo, Supra, 350Z, S4, M3, and in accordance to price, the Z06. I'm not one-sided. Hell, I even let up a little on the comparisons. They could've been 10x's worse. I could've picked the most top end model of each of the cars I picked out, but I didn't because it wasn't fair. Now stop saying that my reasoning isn't fair, because it was. Every car you said didn't stand a chance against a Skyline I proved otherwise. Not only did I do this, but I also proved that the Skylines sucked for as much money as Nissan is asking for it. I proved my damn point, and I did so gallantly. You just keep spinning things out of wack for some stupid crusade to prove how ignorant I'm apparently being. Anyway... Their arguements were based off stupid little details I apparently missed - like how much the Skyline costs and how the confirmed N-Ring time was slow for the GTR. Either way I ultimately won the damn debate. The best anyone could come up with is how off my pricing for the Skyline was - which was a weak and desperate move, IMO. However, they eventually agreed that the Z06 is faster than the Skyline in every aspect of track performance. They eventually agreed that the Skyline is nothing special, stock. However, you on the other hand didn't let up. You never once said that the Skyline was at most average in performance. If you would've just said that instead of "I don't give a crap about skylines" , I would've stopped a long time ago, because that was the point I'm trying to prove.

The 1999 R34 Skyline GTR weighs in at 3,395 lbs with a lowly 276 hp.

Im not sure if this is right but i heard alot of cars (STI, Evo's, Skylines, Supras..etc) are underrated just to make the government happy.but in real life, in the skylines case, they make like 280 to THE WHEELS! which is about 320 at the flywheel (with about 15% drivetrain loss).

I can only think of one good thing to come out of the gentleman agreement.... it gives auto makers a chance to focus on other aspects of a car.....endurance, handling and quality etc.

The "Gentleman's Agreement" is just that - there is no governmental involvement.

They all say that their new car produces 276hp at the crank. The Supra never bothered and had 326hp anyway. The Skylines haven't been in the 270s since the R32. The GTO is up around 300. The latest raft of Imprezas are in the 300s (with the WR1 and SpecC both having 320). The Evos have just been taking the piss for years - they have versions in the UK called the FQ-330, FQ-360 and FQ-400 - the numbers being the power rating.
