It seems 'smart tipping' is geting popular in canada it seems.
A guy named nightfall wrote this on page 17:
My little smart ass (as I affectionately call my pure) was tipped last week. All I can do is hope that whoever did it had a really fun time messing with my property, otherwise I might get a little angry It was not a good wake up call though, and I'm still not sure when I'll get my little girl back *sigh*

this is so funny. and they are all so devastated its hilarious
Actually, if somebody did that to my property, I'd be pretty frickin' ticked off myself. I'd be likely to beat their heads in with a tire iron... from the knees up.

Regardless of how stupid you may think the car itself is, I fail to see any humor in vandalism at all.

The thing is though, it very well may not have been vandals. The owner of that car lives in Lethbridge, Alberta. And in that region, strong winds come off of the rockies, so I'd say it's very possible a strong gust of wind may have blown it over. Lord only knows what you'd have to do to get me to drive a Smart in an area like Lethbridge or Calgary where 100km/h (60mph) winds are common.

And good images there, I was almost falling out of my chair laughing when they article said the owners love the way it handles!

I've seen full size pickups with less understeer than the Smart...

i guess you will notive it when the winds get that strong even if its at night and you sleep...?!

I like the theory of wind, those cars weigh nothing. But I found it funny how they were devistated, it's not the end of the world, flip the car back up right and replace the mirror and the panels. You're good to go.

Plus only people who live in big cities own those cars so how could someone not see or hear the flipping.

You probably would, although soundproofing homes might be more important there due to the winds. And of course, sometimes you'd just sleep through the winds.

It is kinda funny. Any other car would probably just roll onto it's roof.

Wait till he parks a FourFour on his drive. That'll blow over no problem!

Oh please...

A gust of wind isn't going to blow a 1600lbs car onto its side. Christ, I've lived here my whole life, and I've never heard of a car getting blown over, while parked in a driveway no less, onto its side.

If it's so easy for these mighty southern Albertan winds to knock a car over why haven't any of us southern Albertans been blown over ourselves? Not only do we weigh less than a smart fortwo, but we have higher centres of gravity too. And not a single one of us, to my immediate knowledge, has been bowled over by a chinook.

The second car was a Perodua Kelisa, which managed the left and then understeered almost off the top of the corner, with the back end stepping out to join in. It too made it round. Eventually.
Hammond comment was: "Understeer and oversteer, all in little package!"

Uuh. Have you seen the smart in Scandinavia. He was lying on the back. Maybe too much acceleration :D.

I won't drive a smart during some strongs qualls. It's too dangerous. I mean it's a very small car isn't it? We had some sqalls yesterday and it blew me nearly on to the street (thats not a joke and I'm not that thin).

So my condolence to the owner of the car. Looks funny for us but it's not for you. Hope the damage isn't so bad.

Reading through that forum, I must say I feel sorry for this guy. His car was only two-months old, and the damage done has resulted in a rather large repair-bill. Just read what has to be repaired/replaced!

Funny at first, yes. But when you think about it, it's nothing more than cruel vandalism. 👎

i don't see the big fuss.....some assholes just tipped a car over.....big deal.

i don't know why everyone is making fun of him or whatever.

Do my eyes Decieve me, or does the smart have a 5 bolt wheel pattern? is it worh 5? or even 4?

Sorry for the owner, not the car. :) I'd hate to see what one of those would look like after a wreck with a Peterbilt..

Haha, screw cow tipping, lets go smart car tipping!
👍

That's rediculous, I was just reading about that in the paper today. I'm from the same town as that happened in and I doubt it was wind. We haven't really had any bad winds recently.

should i post this thread in that thread and see how they react, or would that be a waste of time of bickering and threats?

Firstly, I was only hypothesizing. The Smart car is probably the worst car on the market to drive in a crosswind, due to it's poor aerodynamic design, low curb weight, narrow stance, low grip, and high center of gravity. Although a person would probably stand a better chance in wind compared to a smart car since we would have a smaller cross section, but since you mention it, I was probably letting my mind wander a bit too far, but then again I do that a lot... :dunce:

Plus we have the ability to adjust our balance unlike a smart car which is a solid structure, I think, or is it a lump of jelly. Seems to handle like one..

The owner's lucky they didn't carry it home!

Ha!!! I can't wait for the rollover lawsuits here in the states..... I'd rather be in a Ford Explorer, even though most of the problem was low tire pressure in that old lawsuit.

I drive an Explorer, and I can safely say the suspension is about as firm as a clump of jello, and it's hideously skittish over uneven pavement even at moderate speeds (30-40mph). I can easily see how some idiot could roll one of these things over.
