I see no harm in smoking finishes provided that they do not interfere with the remaining field of cars. I don't do them. Whatever....

I dont see anything wrong with celebrating a win or podium :) i have only done it couple of times but it doesnt hurt anyone :)

would be cool to be able to do burnouts :p

In a forum where people are complaing about the shadows in the internal view and road surfaces being too shiny, I find it funny that something like this cannot fail to be a distraction. There are numerous posts where people complain that suddenly in front of them there is a ghost car and how distracting this is, yet coming up to the start finish line to see clouds of smoke and flashing ghost cars heading in all directions somehow isn't?
Personally I think it's only the childish and selfish who would want to do this, if it's in front of others, let them finish their race without distractions, if no-one else is about, well, then it's just a little bit sad to spin your car for a tiny bit of amusement isn't it?
Now, where's that 'complete knob' option someone mentioned.

I see what you mean if people are around 1 second behind you, but i really dont see how it will affect people who are 2+ seconds behind.

I do it every time I'm in a good mood and I can. This means I do it to celebrate a good race (win or not, whatever the place...), and I make sure I don't hit anyone, at least no one fighting for position.

I also do it a bit before the line and make it a 360, so I can still steer away to the side, out of the way of anyone coming. But, if it's a FWD I just drag the rear with the hand brake.

If 2nd is close and I'm happy with the race, I turn away and let him win as I do it. I do not need any more Ferrari F1s, and offering the win is the best you can do to compliment a racing pal. The way for 2nd to do it is to push the waiting driver across the line as in "you're welcome".

And you can do burnouts (not easy) with FWD or RWD. But you need some time to set it up. And doing that while you wait for the others can be seen as rude... I don't do it unless I know the other driver(s) very well.

Just the other day we (3 GTP guys) had a great race and after I did a 360, the other 2 did the same and no one wanted the win. So we just stayed there burning rubber... Great way to let of some steam and celebrate a good race with friends 👍

I don't have GT5P, but in all my racing games, if I have a substantial lead, I pull the handbrake and turn about 5 seconds before I slide across the line, and it doesn't screw up anyone's race because if I'm going fast enough, I'll keep enough speed up to cross it.

From,
Chris.

It's okay with me for the most part. It only gets to me when the guy doing it rammed/punted/cheated in some other form in order to get the win. That seems to me like a huge 'in your face' because they cheated to win and nobody else did. Other than that, it doesn't matter.

I think it's ok it's only a way of celebrating, didn't know it was considered irrespectful so I might stop doing it cuz it might give a bad impression.

do you just go around all the threads leaving stupid comments?

maybe i like seeing all your opinions and no offence maybe its age gap cos im 13 but there rather well i dont know the word but this is a racing game jsut race!!!

I think its perfectly fine, i usually do it when friends are around to kinda 'top off' a good race by lighting up those tyres. I only do it around those i know for that reason, so they know what it means, I also flash my brake lights as a 'thank you' if they let me by or wait for me after punting me by accident.
I never do it as a form of show boating and never in a race of randomers so it isn't seen that way, i usually keep going 100% all the way to the line then maybe coast if it's been a lonely race up front like my last (13 second margin) which i cruised home after coming out of the final chicane. Thats just for me as a time to relax and analyse my own performance.

I think It's wrong, but I don't think we need to report the people that do it.

Same goes with people that try to drift, no need for reporting as well.
Untill Private rooms come in. And lets say GTP has official server(s) and there is a person always not falowing directions, thats when we should report that player.

If you aren't familiar/don't know who you're racing with, I wouldn't smoke the finish, you might end up looking like a c**k. I only smoke when I've finished a hard fought race with one of my PSN buddies.

Since GT2 I've span on the line occasionally. This is just because I like seeing the computer drastically trying to recover. I had no idea people would find it offensive or not showing resepect. I'd think those people would see it as more of a compliment, most people will only spin on the line to celebrate a hard race to win.

To be perfectly honest, I only smoke after sex and if I'm really drunk. Dunno if that's classified as a Smoking Finish, hehehe.

;)

BTW, can everyone go easy on paolopepper? He's just a kid! Every thread I visit, people tend to knock him...

I have no problems with the "smoking finish" so long as it does not ruin someone else's race.

I guess I am just getting older now because I hardly ever do it anymore.

I would never do it in a League race / serious race though.

Yeah , its dumb..really..when I win, I do like in Formula 1 where you drive close to the pitwall..that's it..no handbrake.

I do that sometimes, often pull to the wall and coast over if the gaps there. Ironically i pulled over and slowed to try to let someone win as i felt i blocked them... they punted me over the finish line before them.

its unprofessional.

what if 2nd and 3rd is still going at it and there's a spinning/parked on the start/finish straight?

you do realize your not getting payed to race becasue its a game how can you say its unprofessional its supposed to be fun not a real racing tournament your pretty sad saying that in my opinion

Ummm. This is GTP. We take racing online a little bit more seriously than normal people.:sly: I don't mean to be rude or anything but why is it so hard to just coast past the finish line and not making a big scene and spinning out?:indiff:..O well.. I think it is unprofessional

Don't forget, we are gentlemen, paolo, and it can't always be 'yahoo fun' because sometimes you have to respect your fellow racers. Some people find it offensive, I wouldn't do it around a person who I didn't know or was racing against first time.

Matter of fact, I don't do it.

LOL someone out there has probably seen me do it ONCE though....

Thats why i do it with friends, if you're with friends, its hardly a proffesional race most of the time, and if it is a serious race i don't do it.
Simple.

I admit to doing it once in awhile, I make sure it does not affect anyone else. I mainly do it when someone rammed me repeatedly but i beat them anyways ( i spin around ago across the line back wards to look them straight in the helmet).

As long as not blocking other racers before the finish line, I think it is completely fine.
If you think it is wrong, the first NFS game is the one to blame

i think there is nothing wrong with it, although it can be annoying as h*** when you are fighting toe to toe with someone for 1st, you don't get it and then the guy does a handbrake in front of you lol...all good fun though. but yeah if done properly it will not effect people behind.

I actually have a funny story about this from I think a night or two ago. It was on Fuji and the last straight after two laps me and this other guy were in an intense battle for second and I was behind him out of the last turn. So my only hope was riding his slipstream to gain on him. While I'm doing this we are getting closer and closer to checkered flag and I pull out of the slipstream and start to slingshot past him. Textbooks couldnt've made my move look any better-that's how beautiful it was. In spite of that though I new I was taking third....until he knows it too and pulls the handbrake stunt...I pulled past and took second by mere inches. Lol, all because this guy thought it was a good move to handbrake it.
I did however have to give him credit for handbraking in a "respectful" way. I was on his right and he pulled off to the left, if he had gone right it prolly would have been a bit less amusing. I think it's sort of a showboat/what are you thinking? move, but as long as the people doing it are racing the way racing was intended then I guess I can deal with that right? What's the harm in people slowing their times by fractions of a second right? Gives me an edge I guess...
Peace,
ACE
