I actually have a funny story about this from I think a night or two ago. It was on Fuji and the last straight after two laps me and this other guy were in an intense battle for second and I was behind him out of the last turn. So my only hope was riding his slipstream to gain on him. While I'm doing this we are getting closer and closer to checkered flag and I pull out of the slipstream and start to slingshot past him. Textbooks couldnt've made my move look any better-that's how beautiful it was. In spite of that though I new I was taking third....until he knows it too and pulls the handbrake stunt...I pulled past and took second by mere inches. Lol, all because this guy thought it was a good move to handbrake it.
I did however have to give him credit for handbraking in a "respectful" way. I was on his right and he pulled off to the left, if he had gone right it prolly would have been a bit less amusing. I think it's sort of a showboat/what are you thinking? move, but as long as the people doing it are racing the way racing was intended then I guess I can deal with that right? What's the harm in people slowing their times by fractions of a second right? Gives me an edge I guess...
Peace,
ACE

He probably has 6 Ferraris F1 (I do...) and enjoyed the battle so much e did it to celebrate that fact and to compliment you, KNOWING he would probably loose 2nd.

As has been said before by many, and in many threads, it's the racing that counts, not the finishing position.

After you got all that money can buy that is... :)

QFT - I often find that my opponent is so near the back of me come the finish straight that to slow down would result in him punting me over the finish line, so I'll peel off and smack into the wall, just before the line to give them the place. I don't get any money anymore - just a message that 2mil is the max I'm allowed.

Doesn't always work though as our resident gatso pointed out in another thread just the other day :O

Equally funny is when I get mixed up and think it's the last lap :dunce:

The short version:

I think this is fine as long as you are very careful not to somehow screw up someone else's race, and as long as you haven't gotten where you are by punting someone else (even by accident). I also think people should try to do good controlled 360s, not just flail at the e-brake like I so often see at the finish line.

The longer version:

I've done a lot of LAN racing in GT4 with players who don't race often. One of the "skills" I developed to keep things fun is exhibition turns, such as massive totally gratuitous power-slides (the Jag e-type brilliant for this on Deep Forest) and handbrake turns (180s, 360s). I would often just get ahead of the pack and then do a 360 or two down a straight to allow the other players to catch up. Or drive ahead, do a 180, drive most of the way back and then 180 again in time to rejoin the pack. So this is something I'm pretty good at, even if it is useless.

While playing GT5P I will, on rare occasion, still do a handbrake spin down a straight if I'm so far in the lead that I want to allow the other racers to catch up, or if I'm so far behind it can't possibly hurt my standing :-) On occasion I've also done a controlled 360 handbrake spin BEFORE the finish line and then cross the finish line properly. I guess I see a difference between a controlled "stunt driver" style hand-brake turn and the completely uncontrolled hand brake chaos I often see ahead of me at the finish line.

But I'm always extremely careful to make sure there is no way I'll be screwing up someone else's race doing this. There aren't many opportunities in GT5P to do this cleanly, especially as we see more and more good drivers online and the pack stays closer together.

Well i just nailed the 360 to perfection across the line to compliment a nice clean race in my Evo IX/Tuned, a slow car but i still won in the end and had a 5 second margin coming out of the final turn.

Yup. Controlled 360 is what I aim for and usually get. Other times when I see people behind, I just use the hand brake to "hang" the tail and let off some smoke, without allowing it to spin. Usually with FWD cars that are not so easy to 360 in a controlled maner (due to custom settings I guess...)

i do that sometimes if i feel like it was a sloppy race with a lot of banging. might as well finish it in style?

something i do that may look mean but i do it b/c i have a huge lead. ill stop at the finish line then turn around and face the opposite direction until i see the 2nd place car in site. then i slowly back across the finish line or sometimes ill just sit on the inside wall and let everyone else win, its all in good fun. ive even dipped down into the pit area before and finished races that way haha

well your pretty sad to take it so seriously and so what if im a 'kid' you all need to chill and enjoy the game more

Enjoy the game in Sim mode so that you're not stopping others from enjoying the game.

I actually don't care if people spin out (not actually having the game) but the way you act, I hope I don't see you in any online game.

is your comprehension skills busted? where do you get that from out of my post

but in those games, you can have all the yahoo fun that you want and be an awesome cool guy

If you have a decent lead and no other cars around you, crossing the finishing line sideways should be compulsory! :)

Simulation does NOT exclude having fun. Obviously fun comes mostly from proper driving and racing, but race finish celebration can be ok as long as you don't take other people out. 👍

Messing around just for the fun of it and messing-up other peoples race is wrong. So crossing the line sideways or out of control, and promote contact with one or more people behind by doing so is also very wrong. :grumpy:

Personally, I race as clean as I possibly can, and when I'm alone or know the people behind/around me at the end of the race, I do a 360 before/over the finish line. And I'm very often accompanied by them in that celebration.

I think there is nothing wrong with it, as long as you have a significant lead and don't seem to be trying to rub it in, or if you are in some other place but first, by all means, smoke away :)

nothing wrong with it, just comes down to the racer, I do not because, my thinking is act like you've been 1st before, and I have so I don't smokem'.

It's fun. It's a video game. If you're far enough away from others not to affect their finish (besides, there's no car damage in this game) then go ahead. I do it once in a while just for giggles.

Good question.

I don't have a problem with it, but i can see some players might get sensitive to such a mad display of grotesque triumphing.

Man i just read that there's still no damage in gT5. :grumpy:👎 Well, at least they got online racing. 👍

People might do it even more, just to see thier cars in a state at the end of a race:dunce:, you never know...

I'm not a fan... smacks of gloating to me.

Personally, I like to pull across and slow down on the line to show my appreciation for a good race.

Yesterday I was in the GTP GT5:P online race chat, and a guy in there said that the leader did his burnout/smoking tires on the wrong lap, therefore costing him the race

From,
Chris.

LOL!!! Haha..I did that once..I didn't burnout but I let go of the gas for like 10 sec before realizing that there was still one more lap..

Well, i think its very unprofessional and a bit stupid but yeah, nothing wrong with it. Id like to see them do something like that in the DTM, or F1 or something it'd be rather amusing i think.
