Event #1 / Race #1 Recap

260306 - Event 1 Spotter Guide.webp

Preamble:
I haven't heard @llNovall appoint a new Media Director so unless we want a different look at things, I resume the duties for another season.

We kick off the 2026 season 5 weeks after the closeout of the 2025 season and for that, we're traveling to the Middle East for first time for a quick trip to UAE for an Event 1 at Yas Marina Circuit.

The last couple Events of the 2025 season saw grids get down to 10-12 drivers but a new season means renewed interest and we had 15 drivers line up on the grid.

I extend a welcome to the 2026 Rookie Class of @ZoomZoomMf, @Crunchy Taco & @JakeMk8 (who did log 2 races in the 2025 season). @Crunchy Taco is a December recruit of mine in the SPEC League and I'm happy to see he made his way to the Friday Series. I hope you three enjoy this series as much as the rest of us do.

Qualifying Table:
Event 1 Quali 1.webp

Event 1 Quali 2.webp

The first Pole Award of the season goes to @Noob01_lmdead. His Z4 put down a time of 1:52.699. I joined some practice time with some of the drivers leading up to the Event and this result didn't surprise me.

So the Event goes off with @Noob01_lmdead sharing the front row with @Bologna_Duc. The two Corvettes of the grid have locked-out the 2nd row (@socalnatv & @DublDee). @bublyman and a surprised @DRD_Niagara find themselves on the 3rd row.

And we waited about 8 seconds into the season for out first Caution to be issued. Some chain-reaction bumping occurred which led to @bublyman and @JakeMk8 being pushed out wide at Turn 1. Caution was requested by multiple drivers to put the grid back together. The racing resumed upon exiting the chicane later on Lap #1.
SHARE_20260309_0212310.webp

LAP #3:
By Lap #3 drivers were settled into the race. @Noob01_lmdead had a great opening sequence. @Bologna_Duc and @socalnatv immediately engaged themselves in battle. The race's initial cluster of 7 cars also included @DublDee, @DRD_Niagara, @llNovall and @JDMKING13.
SHARE_20260309_0213160.webp

LAP #4:
For the best view of the action in Sector 3, book yourself a room at the Yas Island Hotel. After an unfortunate start, @bublyman is making his way back up the grid, currently in 9th, leading @ZoomZoomMf, @JakeMk8 and @cesarr64.
SHARE_20260309_0213370.webp

LAP #5:
The Corvettes were nasty on the straights. @socalnatv has been stalking @Bologna_Duc since the start of the race and on the straight leading to the chicane on Lap #5, he'd get by his man to move into 2nd place. The front of the grid has drivers "pair-up" with each other. (@socalnatv & @Bologna_Duc, @DublDee & @DRD_Niagara, @llNovall & @JDMKING13)

Awesome stuff going on between @llNovall and @JDMKING13. On this occasion at the hairpin, @JDMKING13 used the inside line to gain the position and move into 6th.

LAP #9:
This pic might suggest @llNovall forgot which layout of Yas Marina we were on as he incorrectly took a left but in reality, a nasty slide occurred between Turns 4 and 5 which allows for a hard charging @Phlano099 to take his 7th position. @llNovall was assessed a harsh reset back to the track which also allowed @bublyman through.

LAP #11:
Another good battle was brewing between @ZoomZoomMf's Jaguar and @Crunchy Taco's Aston Martin for 10th but this is approximately when @ZoomZoomMf lost connection. @Crunchy Taco moves to 10th and just a couple seconds behind him is @cesarr64 in 11th.

LAP #13:
More fun stuff but between the AMG's of @Phlano099 and @bublyman this time. A slightly deep run of the hairpin by @Phlano099 opened the door for @bublyman to power himself to gain the position on the ensuing straight.

LAP #14:
@DublDee and @DRD_Niagara have been running 4th and 5th since exiting Turn 1 on Lap #1. At times I felt I applied decent pressure but asides from a few slides out of the chicane, we were mostly logging Laps in the mid-to-high 1:53's and I couldn't reel him in. As the laps went on, @JDMKING13 became a concern of mine as I sensed he was getting comfortable in his Mustang and I had the benefit of a tow on the straights from @DublDee's Corvette as long as I kept my exits clean.
SHARE_20260309_0216260.webp

LAP #15:
@socalnatv did everything he could to try to catch @Noob01_lmdead, including posting the race's Fastest Lap but @Noob01_lmdead was on another planet. Replay shows that at Lap #15, @Noob01_lmdead managed to log 8 of his last 9 Laps into the 1:52.s.
SHARE_20260309_0216590.webp

LAP #17:
A valiant effort by @socalnatv but @Noob01_lmdead proves too much. He goes wire-to-wire to win the season's opening race. He's joined on the podium by @socalnatv and @Bologna_Duc.
SHARE_20260309_0217280.webp

@socalnatv did manage the Fastest Lap of the race (and of the Event) in this one with an insane 1:52.399. @Noob01_lmdead is the only other driver to get into the 1:52's. The next closest was @bublyman with a 1:53.085.

Final Thoughts:
  • Nice to get the grid size back to almost a full lobby. And that includes a couple regulars that had conflicts so the indications are that we should enjoy close to 16 cars on the grid for Event 2 at least.
  • On the other end of the scale, the SPEC League is going through a rough patch right now. Division 1 tends to be 7-9 drivers and Division 2 has had grids of 3 and 4 recently. Not suggesting any of you are D2 types but your participation might help in rebalancing the League. Come on out for stress free driving. Full-time and Part-time drivers wanted.

Great job as always sir, and you have more than cemented yourself as our resident Director of Media Relations now and as long as your care to. Huge appreciation and thanks for all the effort and time you commit to these. I speak on behalf of all our drivers in saying it certainly adds to the flavor and immersion of the series in its own light. Great work and thank you.

@DRD_Niagara I’m always blown away when your recaps come out! I don’t know how you manage to capture the best moments of each race, and edit the replays the way you do, but PLEASE don’t ever stop doing this. Tee and I patiently wait for these to be posted and watch with our morning coffee! I can’t lie, I watched the YouTube video recap twice! 🤓
@llNovall there is nobody out there that can organize, maintain and provide a series like yours! Second to none and maybe it’s just me, but this new series has the potential to be one of the best, if not the best, of all time! I mean this was race 1 and look at how tight the field was, and in different makes of cars no less. I can only imagine how intense and close the racing will be mid-season! As I said to Niagara, please don’t ever stop…. I’ll be a part these series’ for as long as my old body will allow.
Thanks again to you both, from me and Tee

Agree completely, he’s a combination of Don Cherry, Howard Cosell, and Walter Cronkite with his race reports.

Post Race Report and Scoring
Event #1 at Yas Marina

(in order of Season Standings after Event #1)
(both drop scores will be counted for Events 5-9)
Award Recognition
Checkered Flag = Single Race Wins
Track Map Outline = Overall Event Wins

Great opening race night in our Gr3 V8+ Supercars. The times and racing was very close for a seasoni opener and I suspect this series could be one of the tightest for average pace and door to door racing. There are plenty of points to highlight, so take a look at the replays...always worth the watch.
Race broadcasts have been made available for viewing, but you can also view the actual in-game replays through the search tag: snailv8sc. Feel free to elaborate on any battle/exchanges you may have shared.
Overall, it was a great night of racing.

Minimal lag/jittering was present across the field, but was overall manageable.

Now for Scoring:
Congratulations to rjimenez76 / @Noob01_lmdead (#12) on the Overall Win. Great work!!

Also, Congratulations to our Top 3 Overall:
1st: rjimenez76 / @Noob01_lmdead (#12)
2nd: Sand__68 / @socalnatv (#68)
3rd: NOVA-0479 / @llNovall (#4)

Awards:
rjimenez76 / @Noob01_lmdead (#12), please apply apply a "white" track map decal of the Yas Marina track map to your driver side quarter window or in the c-pillar just behind it in recognition of your overall Event #1 win. Also, please apply one checkered flag decal linked below in recognition of your Race 1 win>>>> Awards Link for Details and Decals

NOVA-0479 / @llNovall (#4) , please apply one checkered flag decal linked below in recognition of your Race 2 win. >>>> Awards Link for Details and Decals

Series main Spotters Guide and Driver Profile page has been updated in order of driver standings with award tags and overall podium placement acknowledgements.>>>Driver Profile Page and Spotters Guide Link

For any drivers that care to participate in displaying their Driver Standing for next event, please see the spoiler tab below for details. Please verify your current driver standing on the scoresheet provided, or by the driver profile page linked in this post. Please be sure to update your livery prior to each event. If in doubt, simply remove the numbers before the event. See the Spoiler tab below:
Driver Standings Recognition
Drivers will be encouraged, not required, to display their current driver standing going into each event after Event #1, though there will be a few rules and requirements.
Drivers who are interested in diplaying their current standing, should collect the following green digital numbers 0-9.
19298d4c15a5-screenshotUrl.jpg

After scoring is finalized and Post Race report issued, drivers will be cleared to edit their driver standing on their number board along with any award tags. Drivers should apply their Standing on both side's boards and be sure their number is in line with their actual standing in the Championship.
Should look like this:
19298d4a4df4-screenshotUrl.jpg

Rules and requirements:
To maintain accuracy and integrity to this recognition, drivers who choose to add their standing to their car will be required to submit an updated profile picture before each event with their scrutineering tuning sheet. Submissions will be reviewed post event just as I do for the driver regulations.
If a driver forgets to submit the car picture with a standing displayed or has the wrong standing placement displayed , it will result in a 5 point penalty against the overall event score. This has to be in place to ensure that those who want to display their standing, maintains the attention and accuracy for it to be credible.
If choosing to display, be sure your edited livery is correct, accurate, and saved prior to each event. If unsure or not interested in displaying your standing, simply leave it blank or just apply double zeros.
The profile pictures will not be used for the Driver profile page, only for scrutineering to maintain the integrity of this recognition.
Again, this is optional, but if done correctly, it will be a great way to know who is where in the standings as the season unfolds.

Was short on "play-time" this weekend and the hours I had needed to be invested in SPEC League Practice. That being said, work to recap Race #2 has begun (post likely coming tomorrow). The pic below from Turn 1/Lap 1 of the race will not make the final cut but I picked it up from the cutting room floor to share it here on this grey Monday.

@JakeMk8 hits this 100 Meter board and sends it across the grid where @JDMKING13 then puts it into orbit. Together, they combine to send this 100 Meter board flying at least 50 feet into the air. A different camera angle shows it on par with the top of the 200-level of the stands along the Start/Finish line straight.

(1st Turn of the race and there goes my braking reference...)

Event #1 - Yas Marina
Friday March 6, 2026

Event #1 / Race #2 Recap

260306 - Event 1 Spotter Guide.webp

Preamble:
Apologies for being way later than I intended to be on this one.

The reverse grid order procedures are in effect, that means we'll have @ZoomZoomMf and @Kgffy on the front row. @cesarr64 and @CdnSweetTee behind them and the third row will be occupied by @JakeMk8 and @Crunchy Taco.

Event #1 / Race #2:

LAP #1:
It's lights out for Race #2 at Yas Marina. I'm no fan of Yas Marina but the short straight of the start/finish line does have a stadium feel to it. This pic needed to be captured quickly because we lost @ZoomZoomMf shortly after the lights went out.
SHARE_20260316_0511160.webp

LAP #1:
Some light contact between a pair of cars exiting Turn 2 unsettled a couple and forced others wide but nobody's race was ruined and it was back to business in short order.
SHARE_20260316_0512140.webp

LAP #1:
Exiting the chicane on Lap #1, @we can see @Crunchy Taco's car having a spin and in the background and in the forefront, @Noob01_lmdead is about to overtake @JakeMk8 to move into 6th place. A pretty good half-lap by @Noob01_lmdead who would have started at the back of the field after his Race #1 win.
SHARE_20260316_0512400.webp

LAP #1 - Lead Change:
Still on Lap #1 and seconds later, it's a Viper on Viper overtake as @llNovall powers himself past @Kgffy and into the lead on the straight between Turns 8 and 9.

LAP #3:
@llNovall and @JDMKING13 are running 1st and 2nd. @Kgffy, in 3rd, is getting back on the throttle upon exiting the hairpin on Lap #3 as he's got @DublDee chasing him. Right behind him is @socalnatv and @Noob01_lmdead in a door-to-door battle. We haven't seen the last of those two. @Bologna_Duc, @Phlano099 and @bublyman also pictured running 7th through 9th.

LAP #5:
I might not be displaying many "Lead Change" pics in this race but that doesn't mean the racing wasn't any good. The battle for 3rd was intense all race including in this moment where the power of American machinery was on display as @Kgffy's Viper was boxed on either side by @socalnatv and @DublDee's Corvettes. They're 3-wide and giving themselves plenty of space to fight it out.
SHARE_20260317_0717040.webp

In fact, the top 5 places are currently occupied by American cars.

LAP #6:
Seeing @Kgffy trying to settle a car is a sight we've all become familiar with but he can't be faulted on this occasion. He took a light tap on the track's last turn as fought for control as he begun Lap #6. Concessions were made and the action resumed with very little delay.

LAP #6:
It's Event #1 of this new season and we can already conclude that @llNovall's secret recipe worked again. It's Lap #6 and pictured below are two Z4's, a Viper and a AMG locked together exiting a chicane in positions 7 through 10.
SHARE_20260317_0718170.webp

LAP #9:
On the preceding straight, @Crunchy Taco motored himself past @CdnSweetTee to move into 12th. And just a couple seconds behind them is @cesarr64 hard on the brakes.
SHARE_20260317_0718370.webp

LAP #11:
@DublDee, currently running 5th is asking a lot of his Corvette. He's well into the chicane's braking zone and the unburned fuel accumulated from the drop in RPM ignites in a pretty blue flame. (I'm no mechanic, had to google exactly what causes this - lol)
Just behind him is @Phlano099 in 6th.
SHARE_20260317_0718590.webp

Side Note - I've been meaning the capture a pic like the above for quite some time. I previously said that @DublDee looks his "Sunday best" in yellow but the color his livery and Pro-Class decals (plus the fact it's a Corvette) and matching blue flame had me determined get a moment like this. I don't play with the camera filters (yet) but thought I'd maintain a fair level of glare and haze in the pic. Personally, one of my favorites. Moving on....

LAP #13:
A costly spin by @Bologna_Duc who was running 7th but got onto some of the blue (teal?) paint exiting the spoon shaped Turn 9. He would drop a couple positions and resume in 9th.
SHARE_20260318_1221310.webp

LAP #14:
@llNovall has been leading since the half way mark of Lap #1 but it hasn't been an easy drive. The sight of the fierce fight that broke out behind him will put him somewhat at ease. @JDMKING13, @socalnatv and @Noob01_lmdead have embarked on an epic battle for 2nd. Maybe more paint that positions were exchanged but it was door-to-door-to-door for several laps.
SHARE_20260318_1222150.webp

LAP #17:
Similar spot on the track and they're still going at it on the final Lap. It's been so intense that it allowed @DublDee and @bublyman to enter the picture and detracted from the good action that just just behind them that included a @bublyman vs @Phlano099 sequence and a @DublDee vs @bublyman sequence. I tried to go back and forth between all the battles in the Race Broadcast but you guys made it difficult on me.

LAP #17:
In our 2025 season, eventual winner @llNovall waited until the last Event to win his first race but not in 2026. His Viper rewards him with a big win at Yas Marina. @llNovall is joined by @JDMKING13 and @socalnatv on the podium.
(Positions 2 through 6 all came home within 1.5 seconds of each other)
SHARE_20260318_1222530.webp

The Fastest Lap bonus goes to @Noob01_lmdead with a 1:52.727. He was clearly the fastest here at Yas Marina. His time edges out @bublyman's 1:52.921 and @Bologna_Duc's 1:52.925.

Final Thoughts:
  • What a great start to the new season. Yas Marina exceeded my expectations and it looks like @llNovall nailed the formula once again. We're in for a fun season.
  • @Phlano099 - Nice to see you drop in on our SPEC League practice last Thursday and dip your toes into the series a little bit. Come on in, the waters just fine. Same goes to all of you. (It'll get you quite a bit of run in my race recaps)
  • Apologies to @CdnSweetTee - for some reason when I did the recap on race #1, her livery was showing as the default M6. These replays are weird sometimes. It was happening in this one too until I thought to pull pics from @llNovall's version of the saved replay. Then later returned to mine the next day and it was fine.
  • Finally, apologies for the delay in this one. But appreciate the messages that these are enjoyable. @llNovall - maybe we make a decent team together.
  • See you in Japan.
How's how I interpreted Event #1 / Race #2.

There’s something brewing at the WKM stables. Spy photos have surfaced of what appears to be an “in-house” unveiling of a possible special paint scheme on the obvious #33 Corvette. Rumours are circulating that it may involve more than just the #33 Vette so stay tuned for more top secret reports!

Hey V8ers! Quick update. I might not be ready for Friday. I just switched to the Logitech RS50 wheel and pedals and it feels like I’m starting all over again. I was already working hard to get under 2:00 and being more consistent as a new sim racer. It's not looking good right now.

Hang in there bud, and get those laps in. I’ll be on as much as possible this week and I’m struggling to hit consistent mid 2:00’s, let alone under, so you’ll be fine. See you on track!

Just got one of those myself a month or two back. Definetly a hard switch hope it goes well for ya.

And as promised, here is the full unveiling of the #33 WKM C7 Corvette. The last photo shows an “off location” picture of the husband and wife duo’s cars in a quick shot, shortly after landing in Japan.
Spectacular liveries there @DublDee and @CdnSweetTee!! Very inspiring. Also super motivated from looking at the F1 Japan liveries. Hope I can pull something together for Fuji.

Event #2 Drivers Meeting

Grid Business
Good afternoon to everyone who will be attending tonight's event #2 of our inaugural Gr3 series for SNAIL Friday Night Racing. We move on to the start of our Japanese leg of the Championship at Suzuka Circuit with a full grid of drivers currently confirmed to race tonight.

ALL drivers on the main race room grid should submit their spec sheets to my PSN: NOVA-0479 between the time that the room opens at 9pm est and the start of qualifying at 9:15pm est. (Drivers that were in the Pre-Qualifying session should submit these spec sheets again to the group psn or my psn before qualifying begins at 9:15pm est)
I'd ask all drivers to make sure they are running a wired connection in any way possible and to clear their network cache before entering the race room to avoid any issues. It seems the online lobbies run based on the slowest running system and/or internet speed in the room....basically throttles everyone down which appears to cause the instability we have experienced in the past. Let's try to head off any of these issues and optimize everything on our own ends that we can to help. For those with faster internet service speeds (over 200mbps+), it seems there are less issues with stability. For those on slower internet speeds or forced to run wirelessly, their network appears to be affected more when other in the household are online and pulling from the service speed. See this link to optimize your network priority for the gaming, and try to reduce internet usage (if possible) elsewhere in the house when racing.

Get them final practice laps in, and be ready for tonight.

Reminder to all drivers:
The first 16 confirmed drivers are holding 1 of 16 guaranteed grid spots. Any additonal confrimed drivers are Reserve Drivers to bump in with priority based on order of confirmation. Please notify me as soon as reasonably possible if you are unable to make the event. The latest acceptable notice without any recourse is 9:10pm est.

Drivers Briefing
A few reminders for Yas Marina:
1.) Be mindful in the opening laps. Be patient, and avoid contact/incident at all cost. Incidents that result in an issued caution, in the opening 2 laps, will come under automatic review for any possible infractions and penalized as necessary. Please be patient, brake earlier, and respect your opponent driver's space/line...they are not brakes or guard rails.
2.) Tight Sections and Chicanes: There is no written rule for these sections, but I'd ask all drivers to exercise caution and good judgement through these sections. Know when you have lost the position when approaching these section, and be considerate enough to back out to avoid the risk of incidents. This series will continue to induce some very close quarters racing, and one slow up, or mistake could result in yourself, both, or many drivers losing position....don't be that guy. If both drivers are dead on, side by side, proceed with caution, and hold your lines. Just be warned that attempting to go side by side in these sections cleanly will slow both of you down and almost guarantee a loss of position(s) from other attacking drivers. BE CAREFUL and AVOID CONTACT.
3.) See this Event Details Link and review for driver specs, race details, and allowable track boundaries for Suzuka.

Final Reminders:
-Please be sure that everyone is on a wired connection to their PS5 (in any way possible)
-Clear cache before entering the race room
Lets try to do the best we can to reduce the jitters within the lobby.
Any drivers that are noted or noticed to create continuous issues will be asked to retire for the event.
