of all the rally surface, i find snow the most fun and probably the most educational for car control.

what is the recommended setup for snow? higher ride height? stiff/soft suspension?
 
Try a training session on soem Alaska snow surface and then Eiger Nordwand.

In my opinion, the snow has more grip than the gravel :scared:
 
Was disappointed with snow as well. Wayyy too much grip. And I drive on it in real life. They don't make snow tires that grip that much...

Was watching Top Gear and they fitted the same snow tires on a few different rwd cars and went up against awd WRC cars. It was pathetic, they got lapped so many times. But those same cars in GT5 would easily keep up with the WRC's.


But, who am I to judge. I think racing on snow/rain/gravel is stupid and dangerous anyways. But fun in a game :)

You drive on it with what, all season tyres or studless winter tyres? Try even good properly studded snow/ice tyres and you'll be amazed at how much grip there is. Rally spec tyres are a couple of classes up still from those and as alexlees said, provide so much grip that the cars occasionally jump faster off the line on ice than on tarmac.

To put things in perspective the summer tyres on my own car are classed as M+S tyres in the US. They grip next to nothing in snow, absolutely nothing on ice, and I can easily believe people thinking GT5 has snow grip wrong if their experience is based on such equipment.

I'm basing it on personal experience and what I've seen. Yes, most cars have all seasons on them. I've driven a variety of different tires in the snow. From bald all seasons to Blizzaks to studded 36" tires on a Jeep. Yes, there's a difference. But not all as much as you think, there's still snow on the ground.

But after watching the Top Gear guys struggling to keep control at low speeds with the same snow tires in the game, I've got to say the game has too much grip on the snow.

Regardless, braking distances and lack of steering slippage shouldn't be like on tarmac, that is ridiculous.

But a lot of racing games do this, wet or snow tracks always feel grippier than the dry tracks because they try to "replicate" the rain or snow tyre grip in these conditions, but it is often exaggerated.

They surely aren't alike, at least with SRF off and I have no idea about how the cars handle with it on as I haven't tried. Anyway... there's no way I can manoeuvre a car through a hairpin fully sideways, steering mainly with the throttle, with the 3rd gear engaged on tarmac like I can on snow and there's very little steering sharpness to talk about. Braking distances are far longer, in the distance it took to slow down from 6th to 3th the car would have very nearly stopped on tarmac.

Something doesn't match in here, some find snow to be very grippy and some find it to be about right. My bet is that some either don't know how good proper snow racing tyres are or are using SRF.

I have all assists off including TC and SRF and i drive through snow like asphault. Like i said, this is normal in most racing games, the tyre model in gt5 is very simplistic compared to other games...
 
I think the snow is my favorite part of GT5. I wish you could put snow tires on all the cars.
 
Good to see other people like snow driving too. That's why I was wondering if there is a different way setting up the car, such as high ride height, soft suspension, etc. Any input?

I like to get in a long slow drift with opposite lock. Like drifting but just sliding wildly in a controlled manner.

Btw I have summer tires on and I change to winter tires for about 4 months a year.
