So, who still has a PlayStation2?

I've got mine, since it's the only console I have (except a PS1). However, the disk drive in it is failing. Since the warranty was up on it about 5 years ago, I think I'm going to pull it apart and see if I can give it a clean out and replace a bit or two, I might make a new thread about it.

Fired mine up last week for the first time in years, to start San Andreas again. The graphics were awesome when I first played the game, but they really look sooo bad now, it's almost barely playable.
Then I went to save : 'no memory card found'
For a second I was like what the hell is that?! Haha

I still have my PS2. It's a original Launch PS2 that still works like the day i bought it, played it all the time and beat GT4 twice since i couldn't reach 100% cause of the mission glitch the first time around, best system i ever owned, i went thru two PS1's and im on my 2nd PS3

I have the old fat ps2, my "friend" modded it for me when I wasn't home and that's what kinda killed it
It still works but it's soooo slow
And DVDs don't work either haha
It was a gift though, my uncle had bought it brand new from a pawn shop days after it first went on sale
He got it for $50, biggest bargain I've ever heard.

I still have mine. I never play it but I do have the greatest game ever made. Obviously called GTA San Andreas for those of you that are weird and don't know.

There is still one racing game I play that Forza and Gran turismo and F1 games should learn from.

Grand Prix Challenge for the ps2 (2002) is probably the best F1 console game ever made granted you have the force feedback wheel. Was released only for ps2 and ran at 60fps with 22 cars on the track. Not only that but it also had the best tire smoke effects I ever seen. Even better than GT5 or forza 3.

GPC also has a similar rain particle vapor effect that GT5 does:

I've still got my 2 fat PS2's, work fine and havent skipped a beat for nearly 12 years!!!

My PS3 broke in under a years worth of use :grumpy:

I still have mine, but it's out in the garage. I can't get used to the old controller, even though it's pretty much the same, and all I ever played on it up until the PS3 came out was GT4, MGS2 and 3, all three Hitman games and occasionally Vice City (San Andreas was not the best GTA ever made, after all).

Now I have GT5, MGS HD and every Hitman (except for Contracts) and GTA game on my PC there doesn't seem to be much point in bringing it out of retirement. Oh and I went through 4 PS2s but I'm only on my second PS3... Way back in the GT3 days my PS2 went mad, the screen went black and white and it made a loud whirring sound kind of like an electric drill, so I quickly ejected the game which promptly shot across the room. I presume it was the DVD drive motor making all the noise... Sent it back to Sony and the replacements they sent broke within months, but I never saw the crazy disc throwing weirdness ever again, unfortunately. Finally bit the bullet and bought a brand new one in 2004 (I think, it was before the slims came out) and that worked fine.

I do so cause I love going back to the day when Gran Turismo had the Test Course and all the old school track back in GT3 and GT4 and i love playing Grand Theft Auto as well plus i have 25 PS2 games compared to my 12 on PS3

Soul calibur still looks good

Still have PS2.
Still playing SSX Tricky as well.
Played SSX yesterday on my Xbox. Looking great BTW.

I still have my PS2 (Slim-line), but I haven't played it since my San Andreas broke. :(

I have my PS2 from year 2000 and it's still going strong. Standing proud and tall next to my second PS3, my first PS3 died 3 years old.

I have a brand new fully boxed slim PS2 complete with two pads and tons of games. I always keep my old consoles and if the one I have is on its last legs I pick up a brand new one for cheap and keep it just in case. I did the same with my GameCube and I will do the same with my Wii and PS3.

I had a fatty PS2 that I got in 2002 and died in 2008. Now I only have a PS2 Slim I got from 2005, and still works pretty good. I spend my time playing GT4 and NFL 2K5 on it.

I had one that was from 2000ish and it worked perfectly up until 2009 when I broke it trying to clean the laser. UGH. My slim is meh, needs a cleaning and disc door is wierd and I had a launch one that died in 2009 too. Disc read error on a new disc lol

I have a release day PS2, but its been collecting dust for a few years now. It still works though, but the DVD drive can be spotty at times.

I've had a Fat & Racist PS2 since it's debut in '99 :dopey: (and replaced many times thanks in part to the X-Ray scanners in the airport :banghead: ). But then I was given a Slim PS2 and so far it's following the racist footsteps of his older brother :grumpy:. It won't even read GT4 :scared:, but fortunately it still reads GT3 :sly:. Now I'm on the verge to buy a PS3 :D.

I feel for you. My fat PS2 broke in 2007 because the laser broke. Got a used slim two years ago and its working to this day. And yes, mine still plays GT4. :sly:

Still have my silver slim PS2 mostly use it for NASCAR games and Killzone but I will probably get some RPGs sometime.

Why, PlayStation, WHY ME??? My Racist Lil' Slim PS2 (new nickname) won't play any of my PS1 games or any of my blue PS2 CD's, not even...*GameShark* :scared:

If it won't play the purple one have you tried the tape trick. http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-PS2-Purple-Discs-Read-In-Your-PS2-Simply-By-U/

My ps2 was racist however I managed to "cure" it with this. Make sure the tape is well secured though otherwise it will come up inside the machine.

The reason supposedly for this to work is because the disc is lighter than the silver ones and needs the extra weight to play properly.

So does this trick work on my RLS (Racist Lil' Slim) PS2?

does PCSX count?

Probably not, and it's best if you don't mention any kind of emu--🤬 program here in GTP. It's like taboo around these forum halls :sly:
