Still got my PS2 with loads of games, like GTA San Andreas/Vice City, the original Fifa Street and the 2nd one, NFS U2, NFS Most Wanted, GT4 and GT4P, and some other games.

Rarely use though these days as im 95% of the time playing DayZ, and the rest goes to the PS3. :dopey:

We kept our PS2's when we bought a PS3 and moved the 2 into our youngest son's room. He is nearly 8 - and loves having it as well as about 25 games. Our oldest boy (16) has the other one in his room with about 10 games.

I still own every thing I have played on. I still have the original GameBoy, I still have my PS1, and PS2. 👍

I still have my PS2 though i rarely use it because my 60gb ps3 plays most of the games without any issues

Me too. Except for one game boy that was uhm... destroyed somehow, shortly after I lost all 99 lives at the final boss, in Donkey Kong, I think. :O But I still got the replacement, my PS3, PS2, Mega Drive with Mega CD and even my Atari 2600 that I got when I was 5 or 6.

Thanx man.

It's nice to get a reply.
I suppose buying one is my option then.

I did watch/read a lot about fixing the one I have, which has never been abused, but somehow still stopped working, but I guess the easy fix is to buy a new one.

I'll have a look around the net, and thankyou once again for the advice.

:irked:👍

I agree with theRealMeyer, I would only go for an official DS2 though I find they are actually kinda expensive considering, on eBay new ones seem to start at around GBP16.99 yet a used console with 1 or 2 controllers thrown in you can pick up for GBP30.00 or so. Even single used controllers seem to be upwards of GBP10.00, it's a little strange, but perhaps folks know there is a demand for them, but less of a demand for the actual console.

I actually put about 20+ hours on it again the past few days and I'm not done yet.

I have one somewhere but it does not play games anymore only CDs.

I wouldn't use it anyway even if it did work.:sly:

I have mine and it still works. I use it from time to time to relive amazing games like GT3 and 4, Metal Gear Solid, etc...

Still using mine. Pulled it out again the other day to play Tourist Trophy and WRC (put at least 10 hours into it!) to find the controller had somehow broken in storage.
Bought another controller off Ebay for $5... It also came with another 5 controllers, a PS2 Slim and PS2 phat!

I'm not sure about the lens, but when you open up the case that holds the disc tray, you want to clean the laser with a q-tip. Put just a slight bit of rubbing alcohol on the q-tip, and start cleaning. Don't push down too hard, or the laser will break. Also, try not to get any of the alcohol on any other parts of the PS2.

Ok so i followed a tutorial on youtube on how to clean the laser, i thought i did it successfully untill ive got disc read error coming up! which didnt happen before.. have i ruined my PS2! :scared:

Hey, sorry about all these posts ive been putting on this thread..but this morning i had a fat and a slim PS2, but now ive got none as they both had laser/lens problems and with the help of you tube it tried to fix them..

..with the fat one i cleaned the lens with a cotton swab and cleaned the rest of the console..and then the cord with connected the case with the console came apart and i got 'no data' on the screen and that was that!

I just cleaned the slim console out using a duster and a cotton swab and when i put the thing back together..its kind of difficult to explain but..the corner of the console where the on/reset button wont slot in, its like theres something blocking it, but there isnt as far as i can see..so it wont turn on!

So all of a sudden im in the market for my THIRD PS2!!

..and this is my 1000th post and im giving out bad news with it!!!:indiff:👎

Hmm, I'm always extremely skeptical about YouTube tutorials, lots of people talking 🤬 there. If you could post your model numbers I'd search and link you a text/PDF tutorial which should be more accurate.

So just to be clear, did the cable just disconnect from the mainboard? If so, why not just reconnect it?

That would be great if you could search for them!:)

the fat model number: SCPH-30003..serial number:B0884989

The slim model number: SCPH-75003..serial number: F86238512

Thank you! 👍

For the fat model, it should be quite easy: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-PlayStation-2-Optical-Disc-Drive-Lens-Cleaning/1331/1

Don't worry if you have more or less screws holding the cover, it varies from model to model, but the general procedure is the same. You do absolutely not have to tear apart the whole console to clean the laser or even adjust it, these steps are absolutely enough. For readjusting the laser, just slide out the tray manually when you have the bare laser visible.

There should be a white cog as seen in this picture

image013.jpg

that can be rotated with a hex tip screwdriver to adjust the height of the laser. Adjusting it is a tedious process though because you should only rotate the cogs 1 click at a time and then test the outcome, which can take a long time disassembling and reassembling the console over and over, because if you overdo it with the height, your laser might burn out.

I'd stick with cleaning the lens for now, if adjusting is needed you can come back :)

For the slim PS2, as mentioned before, cleaning doesn't require disassembly at all, just clean the lens as described in the guide above (alcohol + q-tip). And here's where I was wrong, unfortunately adjusting the laser on slimline PS2s is not possible. So if cleaning doesn't cut it, I fear a new PS2 would be a way better option than buying a new laser and replacing it yourself.

Any more questions, just ask ;)

See you around,

theRealMeyer
