Dyer I'll send you a clan invite for when your back online......and yeah it leaves KZ2 in the dark online, steep learning curve though LOL Anyone know how you use the grenade launcher on an AK47?

too bad you guys are in different time zones. Would like some people to play Socom with as i'm randomly joining servers. (usually re-spawn since i dont have anyone to team-work with).

PSN: driftkng

If you see me on send me a game invite.:)👍

Hereward: this is the exact problem I had: but with thanks to the manual, because pressing random buttons didn't help....
its circle, just tap it.
In other news I got my top score of 4 kills in one match up to 12, picking people off with the AK47. I'm quite skilled with it now so I can answer any of your questions, such as the one above.

I like this game too much.

Ahhh reading the instructions, thats cheating isn't it LOL
Wilst I remember, smoke cnfuses the hell out of snipers, They just can't stop looking at it ;)
Best shot so far, SA80 medium scope, laser, standing, crossroads, tower to merc spawn stairs single shot to head (sorry niehder) 200 meters......sweet shot

Been on again tonight laughing at the americans, not all of them just the psedo gangsta ones hogging EU english servers for easy kills on us poor Noobz.......anyway decided to try a few different kit combernations, sorry pepsicoke, you got the rocket to the face test from the tower, any ways I'm now using the SAS heavy armour torso and SAS medium legs (same with mecs but not sas armour) really slows you down but gives you a little more protection, I prefare to sneak than run and going for the SA-80 and 552 theres plenty of sptoping power to go with the mitchelin man body armour! I've dumped the lazers as well, in favour of silencers, I've been noticing the red dots of enemy lazers which has saved my bacon a few times so I'm not returning the favour and I'm going quiet instead. Finaly I've loaded out with frags and smoke, the smoke really comes in handy, esecialy covering open ground when you know theres snipers around or when you get pinned and you need to get out!
Finaly got to do one of the maps at night as well, the night vision is very good in this game and guenuinly gives you a better view in the darker areas of the map, I also pinched a few camo ideas from the americans and I think I've nearly sorted it.

HI guys, i am getting SOCOM confrontation tomorrow & i was just wondering how much PS3 hard drive memory i need to install the game & to save the game. i currently have 2834 KB left on hard drive.

I was playing the bomb mode on Crossfire, but the bomb plant is hidden somewhere I can't find, so it resulted in me trying to blow up these gates but it failed miserably and I was too close and it blew me up as well. But oh so wrong I was, because Hereward, used the rocket tower trick, tactic, whatever, on me. So annoying but funny.

Yeah that was funny, on that game mode and map basicly the map is seperated into 2 areas, the market square and the buildings imediatly surounding it are sealed with metal doors with metal shutters blocking up the alley ways. the defending team start on the inside, whilst the attacking team start on the outside. The satchel charge is outside and the bomb plant location is inside.........now you need C4 to blow your way in and of course all the attackers are waiting for you as well LOL
I was in the tower as it was the highest point to cover the whole perimiter, I spoted you with the satchel knelling by the baracade on the street on the right (oposite the embasy) I took it you were planting C4 so I went for the perfect headshot........with the RPG of course, Kabooom! LOL

After reading Herewards description of the game I decided to take the plunge, and I'm glad I did too, The game is fantastic!

The controls are very friendly, and are almost completely customisable, and I was able to find a comfortable layout that was similar to what I was used to in an FPS, but with enough of a difference to make the game feel fresh and challenging. There is also a raft of customisable features ranging from motion sensitivity settings, and functions, as well as overall look sensitivities. Very nice features! 👍

I rate any shooting game on its stances, and I'm chuffed that this game has all three - a very important feature!

SOCOM is a totally different experience to FPSs, though I did notice that there were runners and gunners in this game too. Tactics do play a big part in the game, though I have yet to fully understand all of the different game modes.

I was annoyed, that I was constantly being berated by Americans for not knowing what to do. A quick check on the SOCOM forums explained why. The game has been released for 6 months over there, so they are obviously further down the road than us Europeans who have only had the game since last weekend. Once I'm up to speed, I'm sure I will be telling them how to play the game.

There is actually quite a bit of consternation on this fact, and the forums seem to be filled with one or another guy having a go at the Americans. I've previously got my fingers burned on that subject, so I'm happy to steer well clear (I keep it pleasant in game and otherwise)

Another nice feature is the fact that I can loadout my weapons as I please. There seems to be no delay (in progression), between me having a weapon of my choosing setup with the parts I like. I also like the difference between the commando and the mercenary. There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of player, and it is interesting (and entertaining) to use both.

Graphically, the game is looks nice. its not KZ2, but that doesn't bother me so much. The developers have managed to convey the environments they have created very well, and I am really impressed with the size and detail of the maps - they are huge! There are plenty of places to go, and it is quite easy to find cover. On the few maps I played on last night, I had a great time. 👍

The only complaint that I have had so far is that the game 'seems' not to seem to be one shot one kill. I say 'seem', because I am not 100% with the shooting aspect yet. I'm sure that once I get to grips with the game, my aim will improve considerably.

another minor gripe is that I had difficulty laying claymores. I'm sure it was something I was doing, maybe time will tell if am doing it wrong.

There is something that I am curious about though (relating to the game). When my sights are up, occasionally, I will notice a little yellow target inside my sights, what is that for, and what does it mean?

I'm really chuffed with this game, and the scope of what it has on offer. if you haven't brought it, buy it! 👍

The little yellow thing inside your sites, means that you do not have a clear path to fire. If you shoot while that is up, your bullet will hit something in between you and your target. At least I believe that's what your talking about.

Hmmm... I wished I had that earlier then! I was standing behind a rock on the Greek looking level (fallen I think), and I fired a 40mm into the distance. First shot was no problem. Second shot (and I had not moved, and only reloaded), hit the rocks I was standing by, blowing up and killing me!

I always assumed (in the real world and in games), that 40mm rounds had a minimum distance they had to travel before the round was armed. I was using an AK-47 so that rule might be different, but I will check later on if that is the case with the M16 and M4 (cue another suicide:lol:).

Don't forget you can map custom Controls. It really helps you out. As well Sensitivity, custom or pre made. I like to use, I think it is called NAVY SEAL option, its really precise and quick! Try that. Yeah depending how much armor you have and where you hit someone, because sometimes it takes 3 bullets even to take someone out.

One shot one kill.........yep, shoot them in the head and down they go! You need to look at your guns stats though, damage is the one your looking at, take one of the sniper rifles and shoot a guy in the chest whose wearing light or no armour and you'll take him down at 100 meters with one shot, if your using something like the smg's with 9mm rounds then you need to but alot of rounds in to get through the body armour......you start to recognise what armour people are wearing after a while, but thats all academic, you should allways go for the headshot!
Run and gun.....yep it is used, but as a tactic, 3-4 guys will storm a location and basicly run and gun going for speed and numbers to overcome an enemy who are "dug in" also you'll see people running across open ground to get to cover, you'll notice though you can't shoot whilst running! and if you shoot whilst moveing your acuracy is so bad you need to be 30 meters or less from the guy to nail him, if someone gets that close to you you need to find better cover. There are some COD guys who try and play the game by running everywhere, and it can catch a team out, but a good team soon adapts and goes into camp mode, wait for the marathon runners and just shoot them....they soon switch back to stealth tactics LOL
Right on the subject of americans.......now The problem lies in the fact that when you join a server say EU English you'll see a room dedicated to "american V's EU" in there but prety much all the ranked games will have "american teams" why? well with 6 months advantage game play wise, us UK guys are easy pickings to up there rank.....this leaves most players with a bitter taste as the servers are suposed to be for UK or EU english players.......now most americans are ok, you can get alot of good info and tips from them in game, but you do get the "gobby prepubesant" types in there basicly cheating and ruining the game for everyone.......not good! My advice would be to stay out of ranked games till you know a few maps at least or you'll end up with stats like mine, which is a bit of a problem. I say problem because rank works both ways, it goes up as well as down....and in my case I'm at the bottom with my stats dictating that my rank should be going down so it will be a long time before I get past the basic rank.......cheers america LOL My worse game so far was 17 deaths......I got out of that room fast LOL oh yeah leaving a game before it's ended also drops your stats.....sob

I'm hopefully going to order this tomorrow, just the game as I already have a wired headset :)

Look forward to being back on Socom, I have about 600-700 hours total playtime with the PS2 versions 1 through 3. Glad to know vehicles are gone to :)

I was online earlier, and my shooting has improved a lot. Particularly since I realised that there are two zoomed out views. The first is really poor at hitting anything, but the second is pretty good. I can drop guys at 50 or 60 meters now with nice small bursts.

This game is as good as one-shot-kill. That is why I emphasised the 'seems' like that. I was sure that my poor aiming skills were to blame, but now I've got a setup and a gun that I like, I can see that is was me and not the game!

I've also been experimenting with the look sensitivity options. I've set look and acceleration sensitivity to as close to zero as I can (I do the same on COD4), and then I set the dead zone to 40% or 50%, and then bingo - my shots line up and suckers drop!

Yeah, I havent really got that much of a problem with them (compared with what they have with me). I can sort of understand their frustration, as I would be frustrated too, but coming onto EU serves and bitching is a little off. On their servers yes, fire away. On ours though, give us a break eh? 👍

oh yeah leaving a game before it's ended also drops your stats.....sob

I was looking through my stats and found that I had early exited a game last night. I was confused to know how, but I think I miss took the end of a round as the end of a game or something, becuase the matches in SOCOM can last a long time. I was in a 17 rounder last night!

Last thing, did you send me a clan invite hereward? I checked the community thing, and there was nothing there. 👍

Awesome game, if any of you guys are on, invite me. 👍

I read some really bad reviews about this game, especially concerning the online part. Yet I also hear a lot of people who really like this game. Did they fix all the bugs that were present on release? Should I get this or not?

The game got slated on release 6 months ago, and rightly so, it was a buggy lag fest, but it's had some prety major patches and although not perfect it's a much improved game. It's not for everyone, those expecting the quick pace of COD4 or the polish of KZ2 will be disapointed, but if your after a team based strategic shooter thats more celebral than reaction theres nothing better on a console......the gameplay makes up for it's shortfalls 10 fold! It is afterall a cheap PSN release along the lines of warhawk, I'd advise renting first with this one but if your remotley interestead then you have to at least try it. For those who like the style of game play then this is the best shooter available and yes even with it's bugs and mediocre graphics

Good way to put it. I had it since it's release date in the U.S. and it was HORRIBLE. I couldn't even play it the first 2-3 days since there were soo many problems or bugs. Servers wouldn't connect, and when you would there would be loads of lag and get disconnected. That was annoying since it is an Online ONLY game. No single player campaign. I have tried it again a bit last week and it is GREATLY improved after the updates.

As he said the Graphics are not ps3 standards, but the gameplay is good if you are into team-based tactical play. Also helps to have some good people to play with, as jumping into random servers is just a kill fest(re-spawn enabled servers). But it's not the hectic crazy KZ2 game-play or the fast paced COD style. The weapons/sounds and boards are definately planned out well and can be fun to play. :)👍

Arrrrgh

Having one of my best matches yet and get dumped to the XMB, playing unranked breach and getting a good K/D ratio.

I've found a rifle that just 'fits' for me, and I must confess its was inspired by watching Black Hawk Down last night on BR. M14 + Med Scope + Bipod, my god does that thing drop people well and it got a stunning range on it.

Hmm I''m still trying to find a "perfect weapon" so many with so many pro's and cons, coupled with "map specific guns" and different loadouts for merc and comandos plus deciding what role I want to play within the team depending on how the team is working, "weak and strong" areas. I tend to try and stick with good alrounders but I'm leaning towards sme of the heavy hitting guns and trying to supress the recoil on them to get more acuracy.
I am starting to pick up enemy guns just to try out other peoples rigs....it's got that bad LOL One thing to note though, lazers, they do increase your guns acuracy but more and more I'm spotting eemy lazers which are giving there positions away so I'm not using them, some night maps can get crazy with lazers giving away ambush teams positions LOL

The M14 certainly falls into the heavy hitter category and as long as you control your bursts well its recoil is manageable.

I have to agree in regard to the lasers, I now only use them on pistols, but I'm glad when the opposing team uses them as they guide you straight to them.

Now that's a thought for a nice ambush on a night map, equip one of our team with a laser and use them to draw the other team into a fire zone. :)

Yeah just pull a pistol out with a lazer attached and shine it on an apropriate wall, have the guy ready to get into cover when they come to get him then let the ambush team hit them........I like your thinking mr bond!

Well I'm actualy starting to hold my own in certain ranked matches now which has been a long time comeing, I usualy finish middle of the scores and my stats are finaly going up LOL
After Scaff's post I decided to give the M14 another try but in a sniper role........I'm now a happy camper LOL stuck the high scope on it and the bipod which gives me a really good sniper rig when prone, but with the advantages of super fast reload times and full auto when moveing locations. decked out in heavy armour it's really turned my KD rating around with it now at 1:1. also my acuracy is creeping up.
I had a play with the mercs loadout as well put there really poorly equiped so I ended up going for the L96 sniper rifle, again with the high scope and bipod and complimenting it with the fully auto pistol and again full heavy armour.
I'm going to have to sort a few kit setups though for different game types, then swap them before I enter a match, prety happy with the sniper loadouts though and that M14 really is in a class of it's own comfortubley taking running headshots at 100 meters, I had one moment on a respawn match on crossroards, I set up at the top of the hill as you come out of the castle next to the overturned truck, 5 guys tryed to rush up the hill from the right......every one got droped! the fast reload and 20 round mag just lets you saturate an area with rounds. Oh I also have started using claymores, I set 3 out the go sit back and use them as an ambush, the other trick is to set them by gas canisters or put half a dozen rounds in a car then put the claymore down, both these methods effectivley give you a much larger killing area and make the claymore less obvious to spot! One thing to remember though is to look directly down when placeing them otherwise it sometimes wont let you place them.
Quick note on the clan front, we now have 8 members and growing, most nights a few of us get together so if your interestead get your name on the SOCOM clan thread.

Tried a few games yesterday. I really like this game. So what if the graphics are subpar? Gameplay is excellent IMO. Reminds me somewhat of War Rock, a very underrated game on the PC. And no respawning in ranked games! Good thing rounds are not that long. Voice chat works properly as oppposed to some other game I have been playing recently. The fact that you have a key to press to chat is a good design choice IMO; it prevents people from spamming music over the mic or Mrs. NLxAROSA coming into the house shouting 'my, look at these new shoes I got!' being shared with everybody.

The coms also work very well when your close by a player, proximity chat, had some funny moments listening in on the enemy, especialy those who don't realise proximity chat dosn't need you to press the coms button, really dosn't do you any favours having your music on loud LOL
Tried desert glytch last night for the first time, it's a medium sized map around the size of a COD map with lots of buildings and best played at night.. Oh and I found 2 new areas on crossroads.......still amazes me how much is cramed into these maps. dose anyone know where the detonator is for the walkway over to the red room next to the tower on crossroads is? or do you just use C4? really hems in the embasy side of the map by blocking access to the main square. Seen it blown on many occasions and heard it's a control box used to detonate it?
And finaly, played a few games with target ID off (friendly name markers off) with no respawns and friendly fire on, Really adds a further level to the game making it essential you know where your guys are and making it important to identifie an enemy BEFORE you shoot at him LOL

If it's like socom 2, it'll be in the market upstairs. This is located by the bell tower, by the entrance to the tower there is the stairs going down, some more stairs round a corner, and a door before that corner. Through that door and in that room somewhere is the Socom 2 location of the bomb switch, it may have been moved but if the other bridges detonater is located in a restaurant with red carpet, then it's likely that the other switch for the other bridge is where i described.

Not to sound like a know it all, but the room by the tall tower that everyone snipes from, most people call it the fish market. The detonator is in it. It's upstairs, and it sets on a table, on the right wall.

The red room detonator is also on a table. If you come up the back stairs and turn left, it's on a table on the left side of the room. At least I think that's where it's at. I always forget completely about them, until I'm standing under one of the archways, and somebody blows one of them up.

Just keep walking up to tables in the top of the fish market, and red room, and look for the icon to pop up.
