Ok everyone is complaining about GT4 having the jitters. I initially had this when I was running the standard RCA cables. Yesterday I went and picked up the component video cables. While playing with the game set a 1080i I still had the jitters. So, I went to the menu on the TV itself and selected the "interlaced" video function and I have had no jitter what so ever. So try thins and see how it works for you. I have also had no issues with the screen being centered either.
 
I'll have to try this. i doubt my TV has "interlaced" as an option, but anything's worth a try as this is my only gripe so far with GT4. .
 
What are these so called jitters? it didnt happen on prologue did it? Im very over critical when it comes to graphics and i have noticed it atall on prologue. Is this a new thing?
 
I'm not seeing it either. So far, so good. No problems whatsoever with our old Sony TV. Picture is perfect, graphics are amazing.

(The Nurburgring is unbelievable...)

yeah, mybe its just dodgy old TV some people have causing this or somthing.
I use a really high qualitly LCD screen and things look damn good on that
 
I have a 24" Sony WEGA TV, and I get the jitters. This TV isn't the best but I wouldn't say it was crappy. The jitters doesn't really bother my but I am going to mess around with some settings later on.
 
brand new panasonic .. dunno what type but its the game itself that does it, some people say 1080i works some dont

some say its and interlacing problem... hm
 
I have a Sanyo 30" widescreen HD i got from Walmart as an inexpensive intro HDTV & a console gaming TV after i get my house built. Then i'll have a 50+" in the living room for theater viewing.
Anyways, I am having no problems at all with the jitters in 1080i mode.
I had just got done playing at my buddies house on a standard CRT with RGB cables & he has the jitters, so i was dying to see how it looked at my house with the HD. When i loaded it up & started playing, i noticed that i had no jitters..... 👍 👍

I think it could be a combo of both the TV & RGB vs. Component

I talked to him a little while ago & we are going to see if we can narrow it down this weekend. I am going to bring my PS2 & game to his house & see what piece is at fault....(Game, console, or TV)
 
Hey there fellow gtheads. I just wanted to let you know that the problem is definately not with just highend tv's. I use a 19inch tv, its pretty old , and nothing fancy, but I do get the jitters as well, they dont bother me though , as they seem to only last at the beginning of a race. :) just thought I would share.
 
I am using citizen 27" flat screen TV(low end flat screen normal TV), running playstation through S-vid cable and I get the jitters. Will go home and play with the settings after work.

It's almost like the "field order" is getting reversed for a few seconds.

A single frame of NTSC video is comprised of two fields, field A and field B. Each field is exactly half the scan lines of the frame. This is what makes it interlaced. Standard def TV's interlace each frame.

The effect of these jitters, to me, seems like the fields are mis-stepped or out of position or maybe walking on each other.

I figure this is an interlacing issue since I've only heard of it happening on standard def TV's and those running 1080i, which is higher res, but still interlaced.

Has anyone had these jitters in 480p?

Well I have a 50" Sony HD TV. If I goto settings and select the picture for Progressive, I does get the jitter here and there, if I select it to Interlaced, I have yet to see this problem. Plus my TV has definitions of Interlaced it says for pictures moving at 4X frame rate. Try it out guys...
 
I have a crappy 27" Daewoo TV and use the RCA cables and mine gets the jitters as you call it all the time. Does it mostly in replays...and before the race begins. When I'm racing I havn't really noticed it.
 
Got GT4 yesterday, run it through my ATI TVwonder capture card on my 19" monitor using Dscaler: it works great.
I have a 10 years old TV Sony Trinitron composite input only, I'll check it tonight and will report any problem.
 
I wonder if Sony or PD will make an announcement about this after a while? or they will act like nothing is wrong & try to sweep it under the rug.

My buddy returned one copy already because of this. I am sure they are going to have a huge run of returns because of this.
 
I have a brand new JVC 27" CRT with component, not composite, input coming from the Playstation 2. I get the jitters mostly in the beginning of a race with all cars on screen, but certain tracks do it a lot. Try driving on Grand Valley East, I believe, when you are driving down the front straight away with the stands and buildings and all. It does it BIG TIME there for me. I obviously have it running in 480i (interlaced, that's what the "i" is for) mode, because it is just a standard CRT. I will see if I can find any other settings today.

idleprocess, I believe you are correct on your theory. If you look at certain small parts with defined edges, (like your gear indicator number) then you can really tell the fields got flipped. The lines are jutting out like nobodies business. Stupid bugs.
 
I've got a new 26" widescreen analog (non HD) Philips TV, a new slim PS2 connected with component cables and I get the jitters. Most of the time just pre and post race, but on certain tracks it happens while I'm racing (Leguna Seca, New York, and SS Route 5). When it happens during the race it is very irritating. I'll play with TV settings tonight
 
I have a Sony 51" KP51WS500 Widescreen HDTV and I've been running the game in 1080i. Since the TV knows it's receiving an HDTV signal, it takes away the option for "Progressive/Interlaced/CineMotion". So, I guess I am back to square one, which is just living with the jitters. At least they don't happen while driving. People who are returning the game just because of this are acting a bit prematurely in my opinion.

Personally, when I see the game in 1080i (and especially the replays) I forget about the jitters and bask in the glory of high-definition bliss. :)

That's great and all, but not everyone goes out and blows a couple grand on a tv. And I know if I did, I would be especially pissed.
 
DO NOT buy a new tv or ps2.

I can guarantee this is an interlacing problem caused by the code in the videogame itself.
I work in the visual effects industry so you can trust me on this. This is what it would look like if you ran a PAL ps2 on a NTSC set or vice-versa.

PAL laces odd lines first, NTSC laces even lines first. GOOGLE "3:2 Pulldown" for an exlanation of interlacing.

I'm sure PD will remedy this with future releases of the game.

I am curious however how much buying an S-video cable will remedy this.

36" sony VVega with composite, s-video or component all do the jitters.

My 27" sony (nothin fancy) also jitters with s-video or composite.

There are a few others in this thread I believe.
 
I was using composite cable first and then upgraded to component... no change in the jitters at all. In the other "jitters" thread they are saying that turning the brightness setting in game down a notch or two seems to help. I will try this tonight also.
 
I have a Sony Wega XBR 34" HDTV that is 3.5 years old and they game looks fantastic but I still have jitters on a few shots but never during the game. It's no big deal. But after reading this, I just noticed my HDTV set was on "Cinemotion" instead of "Interlace" so I hope this solves my problem like it has with some of you.
