Just seen this video...

o.O

And after all, the sounds aren't all that bad in this video. Notice how different it is when the Viper or the LF-A passes for example.

And just when I was thinking that GT5 had really dumb AI... Forza 4 put things in a new light.

Some things I noticed, the FM4 cars seemed to be going faster overall through that corner. Not sure if the layout is slightly different, FM4 AI just drives faster, or because the GT5 AI were aware of the obstruction and FM4 AI were not...

I saw a video a while back comparing GT5 and FM3 AI. The guy parked on the corkscrew at Laguna Seca and the GT5 AI weren't doing so hot. If I can dig it up, I'll post it. If you do a follow up video, I'd recommend that corner for testing.

My thought on AI comparison videos:

While the AI dodging a sitting car is nice, the game with the better AI is the one with AI that avoids hitting the player mid race.

I don't know which game has the better AI, as I've only played one game, but the method to test AI might need to be looked at.

Yeah, it seemed to me the GT5 cars were aware of the obstruction before they got to the corner. Some of them went on the grass before they got to the corner.

I did like how one of the Forza cars attempted to back up. I don't think any GT5 AI drivers will ever do that, even nose into a wall.

I think the AI in GT5 is better in cases like this, but the question is, how do they behave when you are racing door to door? Do they give you space or try to take the line?

I do like the look of incidental damage in Forza better. GT5 cars just look melty.

Was that video made to show how the AI avoids an obstacle?

I rather watched how the AI avoided each other. Much more relevant as usually they'll do the same when a human player is racing them.

GT5's new AI does seem to notice the player before they even go round the corner- notice how some of them cut the corner in order to make sure the contact is minimal.

@ Marcus: Not really. Look above.

Whoever has both games should try this at different corners and such.

Very true. Chicanes, banked corners, especially Nordschliefe corners should also be put in. Also, long corners.

Ive had some door to door racing against AI in GT5.Its rare but it can happen.I think the AI have personalities like the bobs. Some are push overs some are agressive.I just took the stealth gt-r to the gt race in a spec and a car actually spun me out.
Also in the FGT seasonal the AI had a massive pile up lol on the Nurb It happens rarely but when it do happen it looked pretty epic.
And yes they did go in reverse to get back on track.

Wow. The Ai in FM4 are like immature X1 abusers, trying to push the player aside to go through. The Gt5 ai actually stops and veers around you. In the last take for GT5, a blue RS6 Avant even stopped to let the red SRT10 pass the player. I have a new respect for GT5's ai. Cheers PD!

Much better damage modelling in Forza... the AI hits the players car alot but they seem to go much faster also...
I could care less if the AI isnt all that good avoiding parqued cars after blind corners... what I want is a good challenge when racing against them even if they are a little rough.
And thats what I would really like to know - wich AI puts up a better fight

I have owned several versions of both GT and Forza. I prefer GT, but I my unbiased opinion is that video is awesome. I love how in take 1 the Viper stays in the grass the whole time to avoid contact with the other AI rather than just the player.

Great video.

I don't know what was more shocking, the retarded AI in F4 or the horrendous graphics.

Something slightly off topic: My GF saw that F4 Kanye West ad last night and it says "Actual gameplay" when it's showing the Autovista cars. She thought that's what it looks like when your actually racing. Proof that they are blatantly trying to trick people. I feel sorry for the people who see that ad and buy it thinking it's going to look that good....

Well it seems GT5's AI is better at dodging someone who is parked in the middle of a turn. I'd rather see a video which compares the laptimes of the AI.

I don't know if it was the glare on the screen or what but the sun and the reflections were way to bright. Like 100 years from now no ozone bright.

Haha!!! I can't stop watching Forza's cars smash into each other.

Crash! Reverse. Crash again! Reverse into fellow AI driver. Crash! Push you out of the way. Continue on as if nothing happened.

Also, Forza's own techno music (which btw is terrible) seems to be adding to the hurt whenever it shows Forza's AI crashing. <<< Traitorious Musicians:sly:

It's also better dodging someone racing door to door as well. Fm4 AI sometimes crashes into me down the straight as if I'm not there and even push me off the road.

The only problem with gt ia it's that they go to slow in corners and they are too slow overall. And they don't don't fight at all, when you pass them they slow down even more. They are good at avoiding contacts etc. Like someone said in this thread watching the video the ia was ready to miss the f50 even before the corner.

They do. They did for me while in a race at Suzuka after I crashed.
And they're also much better overall.
Raced at Daytona and one of them damaged me doing at PIT like manouver while tying to overtake me. At the Nordschleife, I was following one the the cars and due to the pressure it went off the road on the Wippermann/Eschbach, and crashed.

WATCH THE VIDEO AGAIN. :sly: GT5's first car reached the parked F40 at 2:06 consistently across the 3 takes, while FM4's cars reached the parked F40 at 2:11 across the 3 takes.

GT5's last car passed the F40 at 2:24 consistently across the 3 takes, while FM4's last car (after much crashing) passed at 2:31 for the first and second take. (The third take took FM4's last car until 2:49!)

The average time it took all 15 of GT5's AI cars to pass was 18 seconds, while the average time it took the 11 FM4 AI cars was 20 seconds (this not counting FM4's erroneous 3rd take).

Although avoiding parked cars may not be your means of judging the AI's intelligence, you can clearly see from this that Gran Turismo 5's AI is much quicker both in laptimes and in the reflexes department, which tells a lot.
