This is not to put down any other game. No game is ever perfect.
Forza 4 AI are overly aggressive and actually competitive. GT5 not so much.
Never could understand how Forza got away with having poor AI for so long.
This video doesnt really show anything regarding AI, its just the most basic collision detection and Gt5s appears to be better, but then Gt5s AI is *just*colision detection as far as i can see, id like to see more aggression. graphics are way better on Gt5 though
Multiple people have made it a point to say that the AI in arcade is aggressive now that we can choose the sensitivity 1-10.Spec 2 AI... can't you set the difficulty or something?
That seems to be the case from what I hearI have both, the AI still sucks donkey balls in race scenarios when compared to Forza4. I actually feel like I am in a race in Forza. With GT5, the zombie AI religiously follow the racing line. They NEVER attempt to stop you overtaking.
Oddly, a lot of reviewers praised it for it's AI in the latest iteration... I'd say it's because most reviewers aren't really into sim racing games and the hyper-aggressive AI appeals for the "action" element.

Thats how I think where all these reviews got it wrong. I don't think they are praising good AI, just extreme rubber banding.
A good example is in an FM3 race on hardest difficulty, I had an AI right on my backside for a whole lap. He was always within 2 car lengths, he kept weaving as to give the impression of an overtake but never committed.
Everything just seemed scripted rather than AI, so I tested it. On a long straight, he was no more than the equivalent to 2 feet behind me, seeming in my slipstream. So I did a major break test on him. Now in real life or in most games, he would have mounted me no question. He however braked at the same time with the same force
Not kidding, it felt like I was controlling both cars, rather than having an AI in tow
^^
You are missing the point. GT5 AI is aware and trying to avoid. Forza AI just missed and he is not aware or knows how to react.
And just when I was thinking that GT5 had really dumb AI... Forza 4 put things in a new light.
I saw a video a while back comparing GT5 and FM3 AI. The guy parked on the corkscrew at Laguna Seca and the GT5 AI weren't doing so hot. If I can dig it up, I'll post it. If you do a follow up video, I'd recommend that corner for testing.
Yeah, it seemed to me the GT5 cars were aware of the obstruction before they got to the corner. Some of them went on the grass before they got to the corner.
I did like how one of the Forza cars attempted to back up. I don't think any GT5 AI drivers will ever do that, even nose into a wall.
I think the AI in GT5 is better in cases like this, but the question is, how do they behave when you are racing door to door? Do they give you space or try to take the line?
You probably can't change direction too fast on the corkscrew; so the fast hands on the GT5 AI Bob in the R8 (1:39) would have had a harder time. How about that move of the R8 guy, that was quick. No contact at all. The Merc. had to move a little too. Forzas was comic.
Overall I don't like GT5 AI. I race primarily open wheel. For some reason these Bobs lift and back off the instant you go wheel to wheel. That's the most exciting part of racing and they back off. It was really bad in the F1 Seasonal, but it stayed around for the FGT Seasonal too.
Didn't watch the whole video did you![]()
Thats a major issue with GT life in general, especially the seasonals.
The AI is set up to be at their least aggressive. They always back well off.
The new arcade AI set to 10 shows that GT can do wheel to wheel without that issue. In fact they will even fight to the very end of a corner, only backing slightly out if you run them slowly out of road.
Its a real shame that PD haven't put this option into GT life.
No way, I haven't run arcade. Interesting to know it is possible. Because it isn't really the place you come in; it's more how much fun you had getting there.
Disclaimer: I do prefer first place.
It's strange they'd make AI easier on those high payout seasonals.
Spec 2 AI... can't you set the difficulty or something?
love take 3.
Shall i hit him or not....
Nah, thats dangerous, i'll just reverse instead
This guy shows just how stupid these comparisons are (Watch the whole video)
^^
Very true. What we really need to do, is get a load of trustworthy GTPers to do a test. I'd be wiling to do GT5, and maybe someone else could put the difficulty to Forza 4 on Maximum and then do a fair test.
AI in GT5 crash, too. Don't worry. PLEASE, do anything else, but worry. Or say something that doesn't show how much you dislike GT5's gameplay. "Subscribe" to iRacing or *enter PC racing sim here that isn't anything like GT5*. That's what you need.
That's a good idea. I'd trust Tenacious D to do it for FM4's. That's really the only person I'm sure of that has given FM4 a generous try and knows it's not what it's beefed up to be. This isn't about proving how right we all say we are, it's about the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me GTP.
