I've golded all my licenses, and most of the Special events. Very rarely did I ever gold anything in the first hour. Some took days for me to gold. But one thing that was consistent was seeing that you were getting better.

I've completed the 4 sectors in the Intermediate Mercedes Benz Special challenge. The car is fast with hard tires which takes some getting used to if you drive mainly on soft's. I went through the same thing with each sector. My first completed run would be about 5-7 seconds slower than gold. I would do it over and over and eventually I would be within a second of gold. One bad turn and it's all over so there were times when I never got more than 15 seconds into a challenge and I was restarting.

I am now on the final challenge and that's once around the Nuremberg Ring. The time is 7:05 for gold. My fastest is 7:17. I watched the example and I can be on pace for a little less than half the race. This is when I start to lose time. Just before the long straight away there is an over head sign, in the example, he is there at the 6:18 mark which is just on the fringe of finishing on the gold time. I however am at that same point and the time is 6:30. Impossible to gold from that point.

My point is I have shaved about 2 seconds off of my original time of 7:19. But I have also done this race quite a few times. Sometimes I don't even get past the first car and it's restart time, hell sometimes it's the first turn I don't get through clean. At this rate GT6 will be out and I'll still be monkeying around with this challenge.

Has anyone gone through this? I have achieved all my golds with a dual shock 3, all be it challenging they have all been doable. Talk about hitting the proverbial dead end. To boot, I'm pretty stubborn and won't do anything else until this is completed.

Thanks for listening.

I feel ya; the 'Ring is my nemesis, too. Was my nemesis back in GT4 for the last Driving Mission; still my nemesis today.

cut corners... there are 2 turns that you can cut the grass & cut 5-8 sec off your time

I am relatively new to the ring, I can silver any AMG challenge with confidence, however, do actual real life drivers cut corners as such on this or any other track, when competing, of leisurely driving around on racetracks like this?

I spent 4 or 5 days attacking this challenge, just to get the CLK GTR in my collection. It was worth it though, one attempt I was 0.3 seconds off gold

You can cut 1 corner if u like. Its at the start of the 2nd sector, go down the wiggly hill and up the other side, a left, a right, THEN a left, BUT dont take this left, cut straight across. Saves 4 or 5 seconds maybe. Just don't go mental on the grass, let it roll back on track.

Keep in mind that there are a LOT of corners at the 'Ring, and if your technique is 0.1 seconds slow in each corner, you will lose 12-13 seconds per lap when you add that all up. You might navigate the track perfectly without coming off, but still be pretty slow.

Make sure you're entering the corners in a controlled way, and choosing your turn-in in such a way that you can gradually apply full throttle through the apex of each corner. Spinning tires and sliding sideways might look fast, but it steals time in a big way. If you're using the DS3 and a flick of the thumb to hit full throttle, you could be losing a tenth coming out of each corner right there. Push the throttle forward instead of instant off/instant on, and do the same for braking.

The 'Ring is a bumpy track, and many things will easily upset the handling of the car, costing you tenths every time. The gradual on and gradual off will save you a lot of those tenths.

There are lots of places where you can cut corners - for example as you are approaching the first car that you have to overtake you can almost straight line the 's' curves with a bit of throttle control. Also there are many places where the suggested line is a bit rubbish, especially the braking points. One other thing I found is that you can get some help from the other cars if you time your entry into left handers - just a little 'lean' on them will drastically increase your corner speed (iirc about half way through sector 2 with the sweeping left handers after the hairpin is a good place to do this)

I also found that I had to get past the red car near the carousel before entering the carousel otherwise it just slows you down too much.

The combined sector gold times are 7:07 but the gold for the complete lap is 7:04 so make sure you can comfortably gold each sector by 0.5-0.7 seconds.

Finally I am fairly sure you have a little extra grip in the full lap challenge so try and increase your cornering speeds by 3-5 KPH.

Fwiw the wet challenges in the advanced and expert bits are much easier once you get the feel of the car in the wet and get used to where the track is polished at slow corners.

Would it be trite of me to say - practice lol? - seriously it took me weeks to get this one but it's clearly doable - best of luck! :)

Another thought, If you are golding the 4 sectors.
Does the total time = gold for the full lap ?? I'm not sure, but if so, then you are capable of doing it, you just need that 1 PERFECT lap, keep concetrating for 7.04 minutes..
Sometimes I found it better to walk away from the challenge and come back the next day 👍

Not sure if you can have the GOLD ghost on to see where you are loosing time either ??

I did it after quite a few goes, but don't have much to suggest other than upstream as much as possible. Are you using auto gears by any chance? Huge disadvantage on these challenges.

Very true! There have been several license tests and such in GT4 and GT5 that I banged my head against for a while. Then when I left them and came back, knocked them out in the first or second try. Strange, but it works.

Boy, you guy's have all been in my shoe's at one point. All your tips are good. It's just a matter of time and finding the fastest lines. I will say they (GT5) really make you earn the gold. I like that!

My first three or four attempts with a ds3 were 7:05 to 7:06...It was angering me. I stopped attempting it and waited until my wheel came and on my first attempt with the wheel I destroyed gold with a 6:58. My advice is if you are going to continue with the ds3 you need to push to make the passes on the slower cars as fast as possible. By deciding not to make a skechy pass in one turn can tack on a second or two trying to pass the car later on.

most important thing on the one lap mission is to stay calm and find a good rhythm. you don´t even have to take every corner perfectly. just try to avoid big mistakes, be careful while passing those sunday drivers and you´ll pass this test easily. also make sure you drive a middle-middle-middle line like it´s said in the description. that´s no bull***t, it really DOES make a big difference in rain! if i remember correct i was 10 seconds or more below the demanded gold time..

mby you watch some onboard videos on yt. this will help you if you don´t know the ring well.

*wisenheimer mode on* and btw. it´s nurburgring, not nurembergring :> *wisenheimer mode off* :)

That made me laugh this morning...wisenheimer! Funny. Seriously, no sarcasim.

Getting gold is tricky. But what sucks is the prize for the last one SLR from the used garage.

I gave it a whirl late last night and I managed a 7:13.550. That's about 4 seconds quicker than my last fastest time. Still much work to do but it's getting closer to 7:05.

Off topic, there is a Nuremburgring - I raced it in Grid (or maybe Race Driver 2). I think it's where Hitler made a famous speech...

PS I've been avoiding this one after I had the bronzes - looking forward to being enraged/delighted by it again soon.

lol! ... that perfectly sums up what this world is coming too!

i can bask in the knowledge that I golded this one properly!

yeah, i enjoyed golding this event, too. it´s the best special event in the game imo.

I am using an automatic transmission. Is that what you mean?

I know what you mean, I golded that after so many tries, it was almost retarded.

I got very annoyed when I saw the 4!!! events on the ring in Gt5, because of Gt4, but it didn't take so much time to gold them all, especially the rainy ones, those where too easy.

It's now down to 7:12.006. Last night I had a couple of fast runs but managed to slide off the course on one. Sometimes you go through a section quicker than usual but you still brake the same and you can end up on the grass which is GAME OVER. There are split second decisions to be made and your moving pretty quick. For example the finish. It can be an adventure trying to carry that speed to the finish. Personally I stay on the track. I have tried to cut corners (out of curiosity) but it seems to throw my rthym off.

I know for a fact that I am losing time after the carousal. I am able at times to get ahead of the red and silver cars before entering the carousal. I believe that puts me in a pretty good position. I then tend to tighten up a bit and lose some precious seconds.

It's definitely proving to be the toughest challenge to gold in.

I did 6:59 with a bit of margin for improvements, but it's not all up to you, if you encounter with traffic in a crucial corner, it will make you lose 2 seconds easily. If you play fair that's it, meaning you slow down to avoid crashing instead of using them as "support" to corner faster.

Stars mark the spots where traffic is crucial.

Try setting the Traction Control to 2 instead of 5, helped me a lot. ABS 1, the rest all off.
You can cut 2 corners in the beginning, shaves a few secs off, and also I bounced the wall in the caroussel corner. Made it to 7.01 using automatic tranny.

Hope it helps you!

When you cut the 2 corners at Hatzenbach & Ardenauer Forst, you should be able to overtake the red & silver car BEFORE the Angstkurve (somewhere in between Metgezfeld & Angstkurve) so you can overtake the next blue car just before the Caroussel. Also in the end before the finish you can cut if you need, but I didnt need it

If you want to win it cleanly (no shortcuts etc.), you just need more practice. I use a DS3 with TCS and ABS @ 1, and also had SRF on and managed a 7.03.xxx (clean lap)

The car becomes much more stable with the above settings, i found myself losing a lot of time accelerating out of tight corners because the car wasn't stable. And you can easily overcome this with short-shifting.. the time you lose on acceleration is immaterial if you can go through all the corners with decent speed.

Im currently going that too for the AMG i got 7.05.25sumthing at least you can improve on 7.19

Isn't that the worst when you finish a fraction of a second out of gold. Especially in such a long race like this one. It sounds like your on the verge of getting gold. As like most of you I know the track very well but it's still a matter of driving fast and clean.

I'm going to lower the TCS to 1. I tried it a while ago but changed it back to 5. I think I have a good handle on how to drive that car so it shouldn't take too long to get used to it on the new lower setting.

The fact that a lot of you guy's have achieved gold means that I have to improve my driving. I love a good challenge. Worst thing is that when you do get gold it's like saying goodbye to an old friend.
