Isn't that the worst when you finish a fraction of a second out of gold. Especially in such a long race like this one. It sounds like your on the verge of getting gold. As like most of you I know the track very well but it's still a matter of driving fast and clean.

I'm going to lower the TCS to 1. I tried it a while ago but changed it back to 5. I think I have a good handle on how to drive that car so it shouldn't take too long to get used to it on the new lower setting.

The fact that a lot of you guy's have achieved gold means that I have to improve my driving. I love a good challenge. Worst thing is that when you do get gold it's like saying goodbye to an old friend.

just keep on playing. if you manage to finish within a second or a bit more of the required time you will beat the clock soon :) if you play with a wheel i would strongly recommend you to turn tcs to 1 or even OFF, since you have more control over the car when it´s about to oversteer, even if it takes some time to get used to it. after you got the clue you will be faster without tcs! with high tcs you can´t control the gas and therefore the car WILL turn and you can do nothing about it.

ok I tried it again traction control off like before but with ASM on mild and you can feel the difference immediately on the first corner saving time on that alone for me at least and on the left uphill corner after you pass the second car 5th gear one. A tip for that break early and take it inside feels great. Ive got it now at 7.3 something I think ASM helped. EDIT yeah rchee if it wasnt for AMG I wouldnt have bothered again.

It stands for the Founders Names: Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. G stands for Großaßbach (Headquarters)

I'm a bit of a dumb dumb sometimes. As I went into the Specials last night I noticed the Mercedes special I'm doing is called AMG... Holy Mackerel, I have to pay attention. I don't have to think too much when it comes to Tiger Woods golf for the PS3 not so for GT5. The whole environment is new to me. Hell, I watched the whole Daytona 500, and loved it.

Changed TCS to 1 and spent a couple hours last night getting used to it. I didn't improve on my fastest time but I did get more comfortable with the setting. For sure it's more slippery. I'm not able to do some of the things I was doing with TCS on 5.

Just letting you know that at the first interval a good time for me is 46.200. I actually did it once yesterday under 46. The second interval is around 1.20-1.21. I was there at the 1.19 mark once or twice last night. I think those two times are on pace. Let me know if I'm mistaken. I hope their in the ball park. I can't go any faster!

Thanks for the German lesson LiQster. Didn't think it went that deep.

was that sarcasm? :)

I watched the example and noted some of the times at set locations to check myself. That way you don't waste time running the whole track. Here are a few times for you.

Between Flugplatz and Hocheichen there is the small bridge. You need to be exiting that bridge at 45 seconds. Then just after the curve at Aremberg there is an overhead banner. You need to get there by 1:20. I believe I'm correct on these times but my memory isn't what it use to be. Just watch the example and switch to bumper cam to see speed and time.

Leadpaint I think your times are pretty accurate. I will have to start paying attention to some of the others but sometimes it's hard to take your eyes off the road.

I rattled off a 7:09.9 last night. TC was at 1 everything else off except the driving line. I think I took on shortcut. Not sure it was on purpose, they are usually due to being out of control. I'm not sure where I'm losing time because the runs feel pretty good, but I know one thing....there are 5 seconds that need to be shaved off and it may take another week or two but I will find them.

hm, did you consider getting a wheel? if you don´t have much space there´s no need to get a g27 or similar, which you´d have to mount firm. mby a dfgt would be a good choice. i get from your dedication to achive gold in this special event that you like the game very much, therefore i think you´d raise the funbar about 100% if you get a wheel. after you got used to it you´ll be quicker in most races, too. dfgt aint that expensive and you can unmount it easily..

just a thought of mine. no offense if there are evident reasons for you to not get a wheel :)

It really boils down to space. If I ever moved the ps3 downstairs I could have a wheel no problem. Upstairs and my family would have to jump over me to get to the other side. I understand that usually anything with a wheel is more fun to play a driving game with. I do enjoy the game. Not much has come really easy. I've spent a lot of hours trying to get golds.

It's neat how at first I was happy with bronze, thrilled with silver. Now only gold will do.

Didn't have a lot of time last night but gave it a go for an hour or so....no luck. My fastest is still 7:09.9.

I just did this a couple of days ago and can offer only a couple of basic tips. This is a hard one with the DS3 for sure. If you add up all the individual sector challenge times, the full lap actually needs to be 2 seconds faster than the sum of the individual sectors! And you have the trolling AI to deal with ...

How I prepared for this one? I redid the individual sectors 1, 2 and 4 again until I consistently started pulling mid to low target times as shown below. I skipped Sector 3 as it is relatively easier in my opinion, at least for me.

Sector 1: 1:22.000 Target mid 1:19.xxx

Sector 2: 1:57.000 Target low 1:55.xxx

Sector 3: 1:44.000

Sector 4: 2:04.000 Target low 2:02.xxx
-------------------

Add: 7:07.000 (Target for Gold is 7:05.000)

Keep an eye on the times that popup when you are crossing the sectors when doing the full lap. You should be crossing 3rd sector at least 3-4 seconds under 5 min mark to know you are on a fast run to gold with some buffer for error. Sector 4 Antoniusbuche - Tiergarten - Hohenrain was my achilles heel when doing full laps. I was dropping gears way too fast than required. A drop from 7 to 6 in Tiergarten with very slight brake and gradually down to 5-4-3 while maintaining control really helped. The grass cutting idea never worked for me. I typically lose control and felt it would slow me down. Of course there are some cool YT videos to help you even more.

7:09 already? You can do this with some more practice easy. One more thing I recommend is TC=0 and I hope you are using manual transmission?

Yeah..I know what you mean...I just went back today and upgraded all bronzes in beginners and intermediate AMG to silvers. My time for the lap around intermediate is 7:34.4. I'm stopping now. I'm not trying for all golds, too tough!

Brief rest and I'll try to upgrade to all silvers in advanced and expert mode as well today.

I am using an automatic transmission and my TC is set to 1. I have to shave off 5 seconds and it's going to be real hard. The big problem is if you wreck half way through the race it's restart time. Some nights I only post a couple of times due to pushing a little too hard. I believe my first 2 sectors are pretty good, it's 3 and 4 when I start driving a little defensive.

I always thought manual transmission with the dual shock 3 was very difficult. That's why I have never tried it.

Mad props for posting 7:09 with AT!! I know I won't get anywhere near that time if I went AT. MT might seem to be difficult when you first start to use it, but unfortunately it might be the difference between able to beat some of the toughest challenges and settling for silver and gets magnified over longer/tougher tracks. The speed and control achievable through MT is just not there in AT, unless practiced really hard in my opinion.

But it looks like you have your problem sectors identified and that is a key. You might have golded them already but like I posted earlier, just go back to them and try to beat them with a good margin as you can see, there just isn't much room even if you have golded all 4 sectors separately.

You can do it :D

Thank You. The last 5 seconds is proving to be quite difficult. I have golded everything that I have tried. All the licenses and almost all the Specials. I have struggled with a lot of them but this is the new King! They might have made this one just a little too tough. I know it's a long race and mistakes are costly but I was always able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though with some it took a day or two. I'd like to say I see light at Nurburgring but I'm not sure. I'll keep grinding away, maybe even try the manual transmission and will definitely post when I go lower than 7:09.9.

I appreciate everyone's time in responding. Every bit of information is welcomed.

go buy a dfgt + a wheelstand. this setup won´t take much space, you can put it in the corner of your room, so your family won´t have to climb over it and you´ll get everything for about 100 bugs. don´t make me come over to force you :sly:

LOL! You'll have to make it after 7 tonight. That's usually when I get home from work.

I haven't ruled it out but with Tiger Woods 2012 being released at the end of March I have a feeling my GT5 playing will take a bit of a hit.

I did look at some wheel stands online and they seem alright. Somehow I don't think they are as sturdy as the guy advertising them thinks they are. Nonetheless, they do fold up and take up very little space.

We'll have to have an online race sometime.

send me a friendrequest if you want to. but i have to admit that my online experience is quite low and i kinda avoid playing online since handling is so different to offline. so i´ll be like 50% less skilled if we play.

anyways, i´m still looking for serious racers, so you might fit those requirements LOL :>

canada is how many hours in front of europe??

We are 6 hours behind Munich. I agree online racing is tougher than offline. My objective is to race with some good people and have fun. Win or lose....who cares.

Ebud, I took your advice and went back and did the sectors again. I got to the second one and my eyes were getting tired so I had to quite. Not sure if it was the eyes (they were getting heavy) but sector 2 was a bit of a problem. You can cut across the grass which can shave off a couple seconds but I like to stick to the track (although when I have executed the shortcut in sector's one and two correctly it puts me way ahead of where I would be if I stayed on the track.

It does show you where you are slower and need improvement. I am now convinced using shortcuts I can get gold. Staying on the track, not sure. Basically, the only way I might achieve gold is by using the shortcuts...they aren't that easy to execute properly either.

I'm stuck on this one as well. Gold on all AMG challenges except this one. My best run is 3.4 seconds off from the goal. Maybe one day i'll get it! I refuse to revert to taking shortcuts.

of course, it´s just about fun. send me a request, we can play @ weekend. i try to get some more friends of mine to join us :>

I thought that this one wasn't too hard.

I made a few mistakes on the full lap one but still clocked a 7:02 using a DS3 using TCS and ABS 1.

I think that if you guys are struggling, you can try active steering.

I did a 7:10 with a clean line & a 7:07 with shortcutting. The sectors are already goldished. Need to improve my Nürburgring skillz a bit, dam.

Did my runs with ABS: 1 & sometimes with Traction Control: 1, Stability Control: On or Active Steering: Easy.

But all aids (except ABS) are not very good for the round time. :grumpy:

Very nice. Now I know it can be done!
