Congrats! 👍 I knew you could do it! :)

Definitely take a break from that track. You've been going at it like a madman...

So what finally broke it for you, or is there no one thing you can attribute it to?

Thanks ElSecundo. I would say understanding the track. I feel I know that track better than my wife. It's been a long trial and I have to say at times it seemed hopeless, but the thing you notice quickly is that Gold times are not achieved accidentally. They can be a labor of love. In the end you get out what you put in.

In a long challenge like this one when you have other cars on the road you have to know where every car is and how to pass them. Each time you speed up a bit those cars are in a slightly different position on the track. If my first interval time is 1:19.300 I know that I will be passing the next car in a very tricky spot, if I have an interval of 1:18.800 I know that I will be passing that same car braking hard up the hill where it is a lot easier to maintain your speed and avoid bumping.

Motivation! I was really motivated to get gold and believe me when I posted a 7:19 and thought I was tearing up the track I thought this isn't possible. Everyone who posted has a little bit to do with getting gold. Hint's, tips and positive reinforcement helps keep you going. So to everyone who took the time to post something...Thank You.

Right after I got gold I went to the Advanced challenge in the rain. I had all silver's in that one. I did get gold in the first sector. In the rain and no driving line is going to be another challenge. The snow will probably be gone and the leaves will be green by the time I finish that one.

Wow 1.18.800 is really fast for the first sector (clean driving assumption). I managed a hot 7.03.6xx lap on my DS3, but my first sector was 1.19.7xx.

With that sector speed, you can probably push your laptimes to around 7.01~ if you don't mess up! go at it!

I can't lie, I went over the grass during the S section early in sector 1. If done right you can post sub 1:19. It's still tough but for me going under 1:19 is impossible if I stayed on the track. I don't like cutting corners but I felt I had to. I will go back and give it a try staying on the track. It's just such a tough challenge I needed every advantage I could get.

Your 7:03.6 is very fast. You definitely drove the last 3 sectors much faster than me.

If I recall correctly on the first sector sticking to the track the lowest I could go was around 1:19.4 or 5. At the mark just before the long straight away the best I was able to do was 6:20, do you recall yours.

Awesome rcheebunker, great to see your progression and you finishing this challenge 👍👍

I'm also currently trying to gold the full lap on intermediate. My best lap so far is a 7:07 (DS3).
What I'm doing is using the other cars on the track as a sort of guide as to how well I'm doing. If I can't pass them before a certain place I know that I'm way off the required pace.
Getting clean passes is also important. A fender bump can cost you alot of time.

lol, don´t adjure it :D

just an advice from towely :)

still have to add you, didn´t spend much time on my ps lately. in 2 weeks i have vacation, we can play then

Sounds good. When I have my game on tonight I will send you a friend request. No rush, you get to it when you have a chance.

I started the advanced Mercedes challenge...in the rain. I've golded the first 3 and am hung up on the last sector. have to shave off 2 seconds. The first 3 were pretty easy, but this last one is tougher.

Do you mean back up game to a flash drive?

pretty sure he meant that. make sure the flashdrive is empty, mine wasn´t at my first try and the ps3 didn´t identify it. i deleted everything and it worked. since i heard about many people losing their data i do a backup at least once every week.

gonna accept your request lol :)

cheers

Funny thing. I backed up my files yesterday. I will have to back them up again today because I've been moving along quicker once I finished that Intermediate challenge.

I am now on the final challenge, I think it's the expert one. Currently on the third sector. Car feels like it's running on ball bearings. You have to find the correct lines. I set my abs to 10. Kept traction at 5. Seems to work pretty well.

imo the sls handles nice on the wet track. just drive carefully and you´ll have no problems golding it. i did it in second try iirc. used my wheel, though.

still wanna push you to get at least a dfgt :)

You should learn to use a manual transmission sooner than later, it will save you TONS of time on most tracks.[/QUOTE.
I tried to use the manual transmission but I was unable to shift. I double checked the setup but still couldn't shift. Maybe something too simple for me to figure out. If you can shed some light on this much appreciated. It felt weird to shift manually though.

When this thread was started it made want to go back and try to get silver and golds, I think I had one silver and the rest brozne, well I was able to get all silvers, so now I will be going back to try and get golds when my wheel comes.

That's the way it was for me. I did all my licenses to start off. Mainly bronze with a couple of silvers. When I completed most of my A spec (except formula Gran turismo and the endurance) I needed something else to do. I remember a friend of mine who had the game a month or more before myself saying he went back and golded all the licenses. When I first heard that I thought it was impossible. But after gaining more experience it just seemed like the natural thing to do.

When I went back to do the licenses again they all seemed easier. I don't mean getting gold was easy (because it wasn't) but everything looked familiar, you weren't seeing it for the first time. It took me many hours and a ton of restarts to get all the gold licenses. I thought at that point the game was just about done for me, but then I went and tried getting gold in the Specials. That's where I'm at now. I find it extremely challenging. I use a DS3 and everything I attempted I was able to get gold. Not without a lot of struggles though.

I used to play online, a little most every day, but since I started on this quest I haven't been online for well over a month. It consumes you. I spent over 2 Weeks trying to get a gold on one special challenge. It seemed impossible, but if you stick with it long enough you will accomplish what you set out for. The X factor is how much time it will take.

I am currently doing the AMG special. I'm at the advanced challenge trying to gold the 3rd sector. These one's are going pretty well. The final at the intermediate level was IMO the toughest that I've seen in the game.

So Good Luck to you. I'm no expert but if you have any questions you can ask them here. From what I've seen there are some hardcore racers on this thread that really know their stuff.

knowledge of the track is 70% in this challenge. i know the nordschleife pretty well now (virtual, never drove on the real track, would be embarrassing with my micra k11 @55hp lol. i was there and watched 24h race a few times, though :) ), and did most of the tests in first, second or third try. a wheel helps very much here imo. i even did the last challenge (full lap) with the sls on wet track in first try and was about 6-10 seconds faster than required gold-time. so if you know the track and it´s key corners this special event is almost "easy". mby this sounds a bit arrogant, but i love this track so much, it was more fun than work for me to do this event.

grr, now i have to fire up my ps3 to drive one or two rounds :D

You really get familiar with the track if you commit to the challenges and stick with it. If you put me on any other track right now I would do terribly. I haven't seen another track for a month. I'm very close to completing the AMG advanced. I golded the 3rd sector very early this morning (about 4:30am...fell asleep in my chair and started playing at 3:30). My first run was slow but for me it normally is because you have to learn how to take some of those bends. Each run after that was quicker. I actually would have done it sooner but get this...I was at the last bend before the finish and never seen my time but just figured it was going to be slower than gold but would have been quicker than my last time. I took the final bend well under control and just coasted to the finish. I looked up at my time and I was 1/10th of a second off of gold. That doesn't happen very often.

Liqster, I think you should give yourself more credit. To smash gold by 6 seconds or more if pretty good driving. Plus to do it the first time is really good.

Maybe I could beat you at the Ring if you use your car and I use my Ford F150. lol.

Just an update before bed. The AMG Specials are officially complete. All Gold. The final advanced challenge was surprisingly easy. When I finished with gold I was around 7 seconds quicker than the target time plus it only to me about 45 minutes.

So I went and did a couple pick up truck races (seasonal events). Wow were they easy. Will give more details later.

nice m8. great for you to finally complete it after so much effort! sad that this thread will likely go down in the board now ^^

so i ain´t that much better than you. ;) mby even slower now that you know the track well. lets just race some rounds with a stock sls on friday or sunday (saturday i´m not home). i´ll suck because of the different physics online, but who cares.

cheers

Thanks Liqster. I'll race with any car you want. Let's just have a good time. Online racing always felt different. You could never do online what you did offline. It always seemed like you had less traction.

Once you accept my friend request we'll be able to see when the other is online.

Hm, I really envy those who can gold this challenge, some apparently even easily ! Apart from the Sebastian Vettel Challenge and Grand Tour Eiger Nordwand, this is the only challenge left for me to gold (golded everything in A-Spec and all licenses) but I'm really struggling to gold this ! I've silvered everything in this challenge, except beginner and intermediate sector 1 where I got gold. I tried everything, every kind of setting, tried different techniques, drove the track zillion times but it's just impossible for me :( !

Any tips ?

After achieving 60 Golds in License tests yesterday, I decided to revisit this neglected challenge of mine, the AMG Special.

I noticed my Beginner and Intermediates were all with Bronze Trophies, and I worked through the afternoon to turn them into Golds.

ABS@1, the rest at 0 / off. AT tranny, Logitech G25, Golded Sectors 1, 2, and 4, and have yet to do Sector 3 and Full Ring. I am confident that I will Gold them in some time soon. I told my wife that we must go to Germany, rent a Mercedez, and drive around the Ring, and stop for a good German Picnic. Which area on the NĂĽr is a good place to rest?

My own tips, I new this car could handle a lot of my driving inputs, but certain areas of the tracks were potent to excessive speed, or accelleration input. The key to my own success, is throttle control, even lifting off Max just for that nudge, to bring back stability to the car, to better lineup your next curve / moment, is key to getting a gold time. Of course, there is no room for spinout error or crashes, even the grass cutting must be done with perfection, and I feel that perhaps, the shortcuts are not even necessary, if those shortcut turns can be best learned. I use AT, because although my inner driver calls for MT, I have learned that immediate throttle modulation control on the AT downshift, to keep a good rev and then a good accel on the full throttle after ward, is so rewarding to both time, and adrenaline. the AT on this car is phenominal. I really need a new car.

Yea the idea is not not bad. But i bet every rent-a-car company has a clause against this.

If you crash the car & you are not insured, it could be a very expensive ride for you. :sly:

insurance doesn´t take effect on the track. if you smash the car, you have to pay it yourself, even if you have comprehensive cover. you even have to pay the wrecking service to get your car off the track. ADAC (it´s AAA in US i think) doesn´t take care of this.

would be an expensive picnic ;)

*edit*

there actually is a company which lends cars to people for a ride on the nordschleife. idk what happens if you smash such a car, though. think they are insured somehow or you have to pay a percentage of the damage..

Hi Dennis. One setting that I changed was TCM, I had it set to 1. There is also a steering setting, I changed it to mild. I changed to that setting (mild) during the final race AMG intermediate level. That has been the toughest race I have seen in the game. Up until that race I never played around with the settings and I was able to get golds.

Before I would go and start making a whole lot of changes to your settings I would say this. You probably need to learn how to drive the track a little better. I am not trying to insult you. That's the way it was for me. I knew where the turns were when to break when not to, but it took many restarts before I found the correct entry/exit, and braking points. There are so many bends and turns a Nurburging it can take some time before you put them all together in one race. The times are also very competitive. Not much room for monkeying around.

I would never tell anyone to take a shortcut, however I took 2 in the final intermediate race. If executed properly you can shave off a few seconds. I tried both ways and had to give in to the cross grass cheat, which to execute correctly isn't that easy.

Keep an open mind when going around the ring. If your times keep improving then it's probably just a matter of some fine tuning and putting together one killer run. However, sometimes there might be a quicker way but you don't see it. A little trial and error is never a bad thing.

Keep at it. They weren't meant to be easy. You have to be just about perfect in some of them.

This may not be the recipe for golden stew...but it worked for me. So good luck to you. Keep me posted, would like to know how your making out. 👍
