Heres some info, they don't mix too well with photomode.

there's just a choice of styles and 3 colours (black, white and silver)... nothing much to say...

and my spoiler on my FC looks fine in photomode

hellnback
Spoilers??? Brace yourselfs...

No Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini...

Porsche are in the game under the RUF badge... :)

igh, here we go again, no they arn't, Ruf's are not Porsche's.

well, not necessarily. they have modified or changed just about everything in the car. which is why they arent considered Porche tuners, but a whole other car on its own. they just look like porches :P The insides look a hell of a lot different. the outside is really the only thing that looks extremely similar.

modified or not, it's still a porsche under there.... that's like saying that the Mine's EVO6 is not an EVO6
No, because the Mines Evo 6 IS a mitsubishi Evo 6, the Ruf CTR is NOT a Porsche 911, neither it the BTR, RGT, Yellowbird ect.

Rufs are built from the ground up at the Ruf factory. There was already a discussion on this somewhere IIRC. Rufs look like Porsches but they are not the same.

But they do look like Porsches and that's some really good advertising.

Back to the spoiler thing, how do you mount them on a truck?

RUFs are modified Porsches. From a certain degree of modification they're just not allowed to sell them under the name of Porsche. They're still based on Porsches though. RUF develop a lot of parts for themselves and heavily modify their models, but still the base is a normal Porsche.

No it's not, they buy the chassis from the Porsche factory, thats all. Ruf do modify Porsches, aka Joe Bloggs can take his 911 to Ruf and for a certain sum of money they will turn it into a 911 CTR, ie the same a the Ruf CTR, but the Ruf CTR is not a modified 911. Is the VX220 a Lotus Elise, no and they're far more alike than an Ruf is to a Porsche.

Agreed! 👍

people who dont know about ruff will still keep arguing that they are just modified proches :indiff:

I posted this before, but it sooms to have gotten lost in an older thread. (damn this forum moves fast!!)

Most people seem confused about the difference between spoilers and wings, Statements like "spoilers = wings" seems to come up quite often and are simply not true. I've done some aerodynamics engineering and this is what I know:

Basicly a spoiler can be fitted to the front or rear of a car. The reason being that the avarage car has more or less an aerofoil shape (flat underside, curved on top). At speed, and this already takes effect at 50km/h or 30mph and up, this creates positive lift on either the front, but usualy the back of the car. A spoiler forces the flow of air to seperate from the surface of the car and 'spoils' the curved shape of the car body. thiscreates a higher presure area near the spoiler and reduces lift, the effect can be quite considerable if placed well.

To seperate the airflow, the spoiler has to be attached to the car bodywork, take for example NASCAR racers in the US, or if you live in europe, look at the spoiler at the top of some hatchbacks (the small black one on a VW mk3 golf GTI for example). Spoilers don't have to be big to hav.e a good effect.

A wing is always seperate from the car bodywork as airflow needs to go over and under the device for it's effect. It is basicly an inverted aerofoil shaped surface that creates negative lift.

A spoiler can have (with extensive windtunnel testing, not as a bolt on modification) a positive effect on drag. A wing however will always create extra drag and it's bennefit is only in cornering or acceleration situations. A good wing will have a good lift-to-drag ratio and therefore create downforce with little penalty in drag. Most aftermarket, bolt-on wings (and, suprisingly most factory fitted wings) have quite horrible lift-to-drag ratios and are really not worth it if you are purely looking for cornering performance.

No wing will ever give you a higher top speed, and only VERY well tested and designed (and we're talking F1 level of development) spoilers will manage to increase the vehicles top speed by 1 or 2% (i.e. won't generate drag or reduce it).

So what exactly are the differences?
differences between what?

That depends on the definition of the term "modified". They're based on Porsches, if that expression suits you better.

I meant the main differences between Porsches and RUFs
Well, a Porsche is a Porsche and a RUF is either a car that was built as a Porsche and then modified by RUF or entirely built as a RUF partly using Porsche parts like the chassis.

Well .. as stated earlier, the only similarities are the chassis, body style, the fact that it has 4 tires and is driveable, other than those, there really aren't any.

The engine, although heavily modified, is based on Porsche's too. So you've got a Porsche chassis and engine... that's pretty much the meat of the car there. I realize that they build their version from the ground up at their factory and they are not considered Porsches anymore, but to say that they are not based on Porsches is incorrect.

Only the chassis and engine may come from Porsche, but the engine in the XJ220 came from the Metro 6R4, that doesn't mean anything, they come out of the factory and go straight to Ruf, they never become part of a 911 in order for Ruf to modify, Ruf do all the assembley and everything else, sspension, brakes ect are all made by Ruf. Also Ruf are now making their own supercar based on their own chassis, it will probably be called the R50 but it's supposed to be similar to the Carrera GT in performance.
