I just got clean race but my SR went down, I don’t know why, I literally started last and avoided any major fight.

What you gained in that race wasn’t enough to cover the SR loss of the previous race (which I presume you left/DNF?)

Additionally, while there is some overlap, what affects your SR and what affects the Clean Race Bonus award are not necessarily the same.

But I checked my sr before that race, it was A. Normally I’m s but you know how it is once you’re frustrated. So I did daily A, got clean race bonus, no crash, but demoted to B

You don't need to crash to impact SR.

Any contact, even lightly, with other vehicles or the barriers/walls, and (where applicable) anything classed as off-track will impact your SR - and if it's already as low as A it isn't far to go to B.

Strange, it’s just frustrating because once you below S, it’s so hard to have a decent race

Mine went back to full S thanks to the new daily C, if you are a bit careful it's easy.
