"Standards" the good, the bad and the ugly

I don't think it can be worse than this. Those are obvious PS2 graphics

In 480p we couldn't see the blurry curves and textures, but now it looks like a import from PS1!, and why can they simply fix the textures?
It isn't from PS1, look post #1503

And yes, its ridiculous that they still didn't improve it considering how bad it looks :boggled:

Read carefully I said, 'it looks like a import from PS1!' :)

And I know it's so simple to improve the car, but there seems to be some collaboration with Nissan, improving and remodeling there cars the most.

I don't remember GT4 looking nowhere near that bad. If anything, it looks more on a par with GT PSP.

Haha, I still have a working PS2 and trust me, GT4 looks horrible for today's standards and looks horrible compared to GT5/GT6. The thing is, back then it looked good in Small Definition tube televisions. :D

Are these supposed to be the same car?
Supposed to be different?
All I see is 1pp and 2kg, I have a hard time believing it's not the same car, and that's how terrible the standard rendering is/was.

Thanks for the comparisons Mikhail, these look so much better. You are one of the best contributors to GTPlanet.

One thing I always asked myself, though: What significance has the EXA Canopy to the motoring world? Does anybody know? (Other than looking quite strange).

The 'R' version has different front bumper, possibly rear I'm not sure. We do only need one version though.

Good job @Mikhail K.
I agree too that there is need for a common definition for these cars that have clearly been improved since GT5, but have varying quality (from just above GT4 standards, to almost Premium level). It looks like some users don't like them to be called "semi-premium".

In the list I posted a few pages back, I listed all cars that looked clearly, objectively improved in a way or another since their appearance in GT5.
The minimum requirement to define a car as "objectively improved" was looking if 3d panel gaps were added. No Standard car in GT5 had them. These are also easily recognizable in the dealership/garage view in GT6.

Unless one checks out every Standard car from GT5 and GT6 back-to-back, defining the improved ones only by general appearance ("It looks good? Then it must be a semi-premium!") is an error-prone, subjective process. There were many deceivingly good-looking Standard cars in GT5.

The main difference that I'm noticing is that they've modeled more parts. When they used to just make headlights from textures for example, they looked crappy. Overall, well done to PD. But they really need to fix some up (read few posts above.)

The one on the right (R) was a purpose built racer, that had a number of modification, weight reduction, suspension changes etc., the one on the left was sold through dealerships, I believe all of them for that year where painted white with blue stripes. The following year 66' the Hertz cars came out with different colors.

Is anything missing? Did anybody find out other cars that have been improved in an objectively discernible manner?

One thing I always asked myself, though: What significance has the EXA Canopy to the motoring world? Does anybody know? (Other than looking quite strange).

Exactly.. I was thinking the same thing. How is it higher priority on the upgrade list than M3, Supra? My only hope is, that those two are being upgraded to full premiums, so they didn't bother with standard upgrade. Hope, hope.. I find myself saying it quite often when talking about GT.

*snip Shelby GT350s*

Are these supposed to be the same car?

All I see is 1pp and 2kg, I have a hard time believing it's not the same car, and that's how terrible the standard rendering is/was.

In real life, the R is the racing version of the Shelby GT350.
Starting from a Shelby GT350, R models received new suspension tuning, a modified 289 cubic-inch Ford V-8, an improved cooling system, fiberglass body panels and Plexiglass windows. The interior was gutted for racing, and a full roll cage was added to meet competition regulations.

The quote comes from this article:
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1081426_rare-1965-shelby-gt350r-hits-the-block-in-scottsdal

Although, it does seem pointless to have in GT6 now since you can give the normal GT350 a weight reduction, mod the suspension, & change the bumpers to a similar style to the R.
