Finally got to see Rogue One today.

Honestly, it felt kind of meh to me. I wasn't really connected with the characters, and I don't think they were introduced very well, aside from Jyn. The rebel pilot, the guy with the LMG looking thing, and the commander or whatever, just felt so bland to me. I can understand why, though. I mean, everybody is caput by the end of the film anyhow. I was pretty excited to see Vader again, but he even seemed mind of mellow. Not nearly as imposing and angrey as I would have thought. The last scene with himbwas cool, but lets face it, he should have been able to pluck the Tantive IV right out of the sky.

The plot seemed to lack a bit, as well. Didn't seem to flow very well to ms. Almost choppy if you will. I like the shots of the Death Star that were shown in the trailers, but even they seemed kind of mellow. Those were incredible shots in the trailers, but they fell kind of flqt in the film.

I do like a lot of the character cameos though. "I Don't Like You Either Guy" was hysterical. The Rebel pilots were cool to see, and the mentions of Obi-Wan and Leia were a nice touch. I personally would have had R2 in an X Wing or and 3PO in the background in the meeting scene. That one felt kind of forced to me. (No pun intended.)

All in all, it was an okay film. The ending was pretty good, but the beginning seemed to drag on forever. I actually prefer TFA to Rogue One, but it was neat to see how the plans came to the rebels. I'll have to watch it again once it comes out on Blu-Ray. Maybe it'll help me get a different opinion on it.

Apologies for all the nitpicking, but that's just me. Enjoyable, but it didn't live up to the hype train I was on.

@R1600Turbo, honest mistake. Lol. Typed that up, then started watching reviews online, and saw that I had spelled it wrong. Had a "You idiot, you did misspell that!" moment.

That, spelling has never been my strong suit.
 
...So, like a pro I managed to avoid all the spoilers floating around the web and watched it today. Guess how much I had to pay, to sit in a cinema with nary a dozen souls watching the same film?

Less than an equivalent of $1. One. Buck. Hell yeah.

My thoughts are largely positive. I wasn't too chuffed at all those missing scenes from the early trailers, and Andor's sudden about-face around the half way mark as well as some.... let's say rather ill-thought out design flaws on the layout of the final Imperial base.

But overall, it's a better movie than last year's The Force Awakens. It felt like almost as if this was a higher budget film than the proper numbered sequel, in fact. And I'd dare say Gareth Edwards is a better director than JJ Abrams as well.

I loved the cinematography, I enjoyed the humor ("Are you kidding me? I'm blind!!") and I defo loved the intense action set pieces. Far more believable too, (mostly) than TFW as well, in that no one suddenly gained a mystical insight on how to handle a lightsaber like a Jedi and defeat a Sith lord like she's having a languid late breakfast. Or something.

I'm definitely getting this on Blu-ray when it's released, just for the final thirty minutes alone.
 
Went to see it again in IMAX 3D since my wife wanted to see it yesterday. I think it was better the second time around since I could pay attention to more details and not wonder what was going to happen next. I caught a few more Easter Eggs too which was kind of cool.

Budgets were $245 million for TFA, $200 million for Rogue One. And, let's not forget that Gareth Edwards had some help when the whole re-shoots thing went down.

There's certainly explanations for that stuff, including the fact that Kylo (I assume you are speaking about him) was injured at the time and definitely not trying to kill Rey as he would rather train her. But let's not get into that again. ;)

...It was Tony Gilroy was it not? He was also involved with Edwards' previous film, Godzilla, if I recall correctly.

Anyways, seeing that a Star Wars film that's not about the Skywalker family working just fine, I'm sort of looking forward to that Han Solo prequel now. Even with the Alden Ehren-whatshisface in the lead role.
 
So is episode 8 complete with filming? With them killing off Han, this kind of leaves a massive issue with how to work around Leia's character now.

VIII wrapped filming in July. Unknown if there are any re-shoots but there usually are. (hence why nobody should have freaked about the Rogue One re-shoots) But the question is, if they didn't kill off Leia in VIII, then what will they do for IX.

Much better than VII in my opinion although some scenes seemed to dip too far into making a big deal of the father-daughter aspect.
 
I'll crosspost it with the Carrie Fisher thread, but Disney is now getting paid $50 million due to her death.

As a bit of background, Disney took out a contract protection insurance policy in the scenario that Fisher couldn't fulfill her contractual obligations. Her untimely death prevented those plans from ever taking place, and so the insurance policy, which Lloyd's of London is on the hook, is very likely to trigger, making it the "market's biggest ever single personal accident insurance claim."

Rebels is on iTunes too but, at least here in Australia, they take a long time to get the latest episodes up. Only now am I able to catch up with season 2. I assume it's because the Australian version of Disney XD only recently finished airing it.

This is why our country is notorious for illegal downloads.

Changing topic, but did anyone notice A-Wings in the battle scenes? I only saw X-Wings, Y-Wings, and U-Wings. Maybe it's because there were so many things going on at once, but I didn't see a single one of them.

I cannot remember if there were any A-Wings or not. If Rebels is any indication, then there likely would have been some there.
