Well obviously it must have been the Aston Martin.
Actually, when I was racing against TheCracker there was smoke all over coming from his car and it was indeed an Aston. A bit newer than that one, but an Aston all the same.

Don't want to make this personal, BUT I was shocked to see how far you had the contrast turned up on your HDTV. ;)

Now look, you. We've been over this before. It was winter. I was depressed. I needed a little color in my life. ;) Actually, the truth is, I had been watching some old F1 races on VHS tapes that I had recorded in the mid 90s and they were so faded that I had the saturation turned way up. And just ahh, never turned it down again.

Played SCC today with a certain mingoturbo.Had some good battles, unfortunately his connection was poor so his car starting bouncing up and down and emitting great plooms of smoke! And to cap it all, bits of his car started falling off while bouncing up and down! FC has this problem but not as much smoke!

The first time I experienced this in Ferrari Challenge it totally threw me for a loop. I couldn't figure out what the heck was happening. Personally, instead of the completely useless, "Sixaxis Fist Shake", I think having your car bounce up and down, spew parts all around the track and give off smoke would be a much more obvious way of showing emotion. There should be an option to do this on demand. But kidding aside, I'm really disappointed that they couldn't find a way to correct this in Supercar Challenge. I know it must be a challenge for Eutechnyx when there are people with low bandwidth and poor latency. But there must be a better solution than this. Eutechnyx always lead us to believe that there wasn't much else they could do with Ferrari Challenge and to fix certain basic problems and flaws required a complete rewrite, a major investment, and hence the new game. But I still see some of the same basic problems in SCC and can only shake my head.

In that sense, I'm still impressed with the basic game play of FC & SCC. And I think FC was really dumped on by players and critics alike because they couldn't get passed the cartoonish graphics and tricky handling. I wonder if SCC will now suffer the same fate.

But the first full review looks VERY positive. Maybe even a little too positive. Unless they've really worked on the visuals since the Beta...

Some more very nice preview-ratings:

8/10 VVV GAMER “Supercar Challenge simply demands a place in the collection of any serious racing fan”

4/5 GAMES ADDICT "A quality racing simulation"

Both ratings are not live yet, so understand them as unofficial !

Spent a little bit more time with SCC beta last night. I began to notice how much straight-line play there was in my wheel - very noticeable going up the Kemmel straight where I found it hard to keep the Aston Martin from wobbling around. Is anybody else noticing this "dead-zone". I hope the full game is not like this.

Followed this with a few online FC races with speed4one in the 348 Challenge - just beautiful. When mhm joined us later we had a great, close 10 min race at Mugello (no lag that I could see).

Just read the review: I resent that description!

I heard mixed reports about it though, the majority of people I heard talk about it were largely critical but there was the odd grubby-fingered madman who insisted that those people ‘just didn’t understand the game’. They were adamant that it was pure class and anybody who didn’t like it just wasn’t playing it right.

Supercar challenge trophies have been announced.

http://www.allps3trophies.com/retail-games/supercar-challenge-trophies.html

Thought these trophies were interesting choices from the bunch

Rebellious Victory
Win a 3 lap race at Homestead Oval without braking once. On or Offline

No Fear!
Go full throttle and hold off the brakes for 15 seconds in a on or offline race

Circuit Challenge
Win a race at Nurburgring without hitting any obstacles or barriers. On or offline

HUD Zen
Win a race without the HUD. On or Offline
inish the Career with over 24,000 Race Points

Looking Left
Complete a California Oval race without turning right. On or Offline

Who is the Fairest?
Win a race with no side mirrors. On or Offline

Finished in First!
Win a race crossing the line in first gear, on or offline

The Circuit challenge trophy seems a bit of an odd choice for the GP circuit. Nordscliffe definitely isn't in there right?

OK, I've got to ask: is it going to be SHIFT or SCC?

One of the best parts about FC was the close-knit (ie. small ) online community. Are we going to be scattered & dispersed? Where is everyone going to be? I've got to say: definite advantage for SHIFT is a bunch of new tracks, including the Nordschliefe

And if SCC isn't significantly better than FC, I would just as soon race in FC...

My copy should have left the UK yesterday, but it hasn´t yet arrived! I was really hoping for today.....

:-(

Have talked with The Man and he told me that priority mail was not done for the mainland, only for the island. However, should be with us shortly, maybe even Monday 👍

Why Biggles, my answer to you is.....wait for it..... B O T H ! Why yes young man, you CAN have it all. :sly::)

Despite my increasing negativity and rather jaded cynicism after learning of the uncertainty over the NTSC release, I have ordered SCC from Game in the UK and I'm looking forward to playing it. And I'm hoping that Eutechnyx will continue to patch any minor quips and fine tune the FFB if need be. I'm also hoping that they will allow us to save replays from on-line races and that, despite the boucning cars, crashing lobbies are a thing of the past. I would LOVE to host a stable lobby with 16 people driving the 250 Testa Rosa. And being able to post highlights of the replay on YouTube.

And I have NFS:Shift on order and am looking foward to play that too. I suppose I will simply spend more time on the one that impresses me the most. But I'm sure I'll float back and forth, just as I now do with Prologue and FC. You remember--just the other night I was in Prologue, fighting those 3 Canadian Bas:censored:ds who decided to run the 550 Suzuka event backwards and screw everybody. So I'm happy that SCC will have private lobbies and a "kick" features. Not sure about NFS:Shift at this point. And the thought that people may be gunning for me and ready to knock me off the road to increase their "Aggression" Points does have me a bit... :nervous::grumpy:

And HI Jason--still here.

I will definately get both of them. So when i´m in the mood for some roaring on the nordschleife and some drifting i will choose shift..............and when i´m in the mood for some serious race driving and an online-community on a high level i will choose SCC.

By the way: I will be on the nordschleife in real life tomorrow and visit the "Langstreckenpokal"-Race from 13:00 to 17:00 o'clock.

If SHIFT has half-way decent physics, I will definitely get it, because of the many new tracks it offers. I'm a bit less sure about SCC. I still have lots more mileage in FC online, but if people switch to SCC there'll be nobody left playing FC online, & perhaps not many playing SCC either... :nervous:

How about a (last :() series of FC races with the 355 or 348 Challenge this weekend (I just noticed I set a new Mugello PB racing with mhm last night with the 248 Challenge - think I may have snuck past krufti & higgi in the Lap Records! :)).

BTW: where's Mario?

Oh, don't go all soft and nostalgic on us now, Biggles. :( We're not going anywhere. And you may be interested to know, according to VGChartz, in the last 5 weeks, Ferrari Challenge has sold almost 12,000 copies in the US (where it was moving just 250-300 copies per week for a few months before that--likely due to the price cuts. You can get it brand new for $12-$15 now). So I'm sure there will be a whole new slew of n00bs racing the F430 at Monza for you to tackle. ;)

I'm actually hoping that Shift offers slightly better physics than for just 'roaring and drifting'. No back peddling and trying to smooth things out Higgi. We all saw what you wrote. ;) But we'll have to see how it goes. I don't want to discourage anybody. But I have my doubts if SCC will be a big seller. At least people aren't expecting monthly DLC and a string of broken promises this time.

Sure I'm up for a race this weekend. 👍 And since the F1 circus is at Spa, it would be a great place to end the event.

As for Mario, I've been hearing lots of rumors. Some say he got drunk, slammed a mod and was promptly banned. Others claim he started racing PC sims and became an immediate high brow snob and refuses to be seen in this forum. But the most plausible one is that he's on holiday and his wife threatened a divorce if he went on-line. ;) I suspect we'll see him back on-line early next week--if not sooner.

Not to sound rude at all, honestly, but I don't understand why so many people support the act of buy this game when they already lied us with Ferrari Challenge.

The people who bought Ferrari Challenge, bought it with the idea of a monthly update and so on. We never had that, and the 1st (and only) DLC came too late.

Not to mention that the online in Ferrari Challenge was really bad, the only thing that surprised me about the online was the audio when talking with others (it wasn't as poor as in other games).

I loved Ferrari Challenge, but I loved it because what I paid was a really low quantity buying it through second-hand. If I had paid 60€ for it as new game, I would hate it.

So I was just asking myself why the owners of Ferrari Challenge still supports the dev./pub. with the next title, even after they really ·$%)"! us with the first in terms of support and promises (thanks god that at least they did a few patchs for bugs at the beginning).

i was all up for it yesterday, had the console ready, had the controller ready and then get a call ten minutes before I am due to leave saying that the game has been put back indefinitely from GAME!

STUPID MOTHER F------, WHAT IS THE BIG F------ PROBLEM WITH RELEASING THE GOD DAMN F------ GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm very pleased with my purchase. It's still, in my opinion, one of the best out there.

New Supercar Challenge reviews.

gamesTM - 6/10
OPM - 5/10

I gather the mainstream just don't get it, then.

The core of the game is good and there's nearly no other hardcore sim racer.

Aero: I'm not sure why you have this vendetta against FC. They certainly did not deliver what was promised, but in the end I judge the game on what it DID offer me, rather than on what it DIDN'T, & there's no question I got my money's worth.

Well this is what one of the staffers at OPM had to say about the review score.

I've not played the game past a lap or two, and wouldn't pretend to be a driving expert anyway. But the guy we chose to review supercar absolutely is, and he said it simy wasn't fun. He liked Ferrari Challenge, and replayed that to get a good grasp on what was going wrong with supercar. It's dated, unrealistically hard and gives no sensation of speed, he argues.

If im honest im glad I got a beta key before my copy arrived as as soon as Id played one race on the beta I had already made up my mind that I was going to cancel the pre-order.

I had ferrari challenge and that had many problems with it and if im honest super car challenge just really isn't any better in any sense.

The graphics are just as poor as ferrari challenges graphics, I can't see any advance in them at all

The physics are worse than ferrari challenge it just feels like you are driving forza 2 but with some cheap ass understeer added in to imitate better physics and its just awful.

The sounds are awful it sounds like someone is firing a gun every time you change gear, oh and it still has the annoying downshift problem where it doesn't let you change down a gear sometimes despite I am miles down the rev range when im changing down.

The track models must have been done by someone who had never seen any of them in real life as they are just totally wrong as they were on ferrari challenge, I just don't understand the praise for this game as honestly it sucks big time.

Don't just cast me off as a basher of the game as im really not as I thought ferrari challenge wasn't great but surely the next game would have improved these faults and it would have been better and it just isn't.

That's an interesting word in this context! ;)

I take it you are making this judgement based on the beta? I'm not that impressed by the beta either - I don't find it in anyway an improvement on FC & worse in some ways. It remains to be seen how the full game is: I'll be listening to Higgi for that.

Racing online in FC is the best online racing experience on the PS3 to date IMO (although there certainly are problems). I would have to disagree with you on the gear shifts (other than the rather unpleasant sound itself): I like the way FC requires you to match the revs & co-ordinate the braking, shifting & weight-transfer (much more interesting & involved than the way GT5P models it), & as any experienced FC driver will tell you, it is possible to do it right, & doing it right will deliver faster lap times, which is the way it should be.

FWIW, I'm hopeful the Beta is NOT an accurate representation of what the completed game will both look and feel like. Eutechnyx made it clear that it was a work in progress designed to allow players to test the on-line system and I suspect, compared to what we see in the Beta, they've tweaked a great many things, from the menus to the music to background animation and more importantly, the gameplay as well. If the completed game looks EXACTLY like the Beta, I'll be quite surprised. And disappointed.

I've a feeling you're going to be disappointed chap. I don't think it looks bad at all, pretty good in fact. I mean it's like Race Pro...all the important stuff comes first.

I'm sure there will be a few tweaks here and there but I get the feeling that the visuals are pretty much set.
