Headlight covers in this VW Bug are a curiosity - I must admit it's the first time I've seen such an element (apart from police cars betting on matches). The whole exterior is completed by the soil obtained by shortened shock absorbers. With such a serious restoration of the car we could not miss the interior, which has been newly upholstered. Apart from that, we can find new carpet, decors and mouldings. There are no seatbelts known from today's cars, but there are WOB lap belts. Instead of a gas pedal there is a roller. The whole is completed with chrome basket and custom EMPI shifter. Garbus can also boast an interesting car-audio, which is controlled by an Alpine unit. And there is a lot to control because we have on board Blaupunkt amplifier, JVC speakers and Sony Xplode subwoofer - of course, as befits a classic, everything is discreetly hidden.

The engine was replaced by a 4-litre V8 from BMW (M60B40) with 282 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Relatively compact for a double overhead camshaft V8, the engine fits perfectly under the hood of the Golf with room to spare. Among BMW fans, it is believed to be one of the most durable engines in BMW history. The entire chassis was modified not only to accommodate the little beast from Munich, but also to match the RWD system. Thus, a beam from a BMW 3 Series (E36) ended up in the front, and a beam and differential from a BMW 5 Series (E39), which among other things was fitted with this engine from the factory, ended up in the rear. Modifications further include BC Racing coilovers at all corners and custom pushrods for the rear suspension, a setup that’s often found in racing cars rather than production cars.
