I've just noticed the brera is on the list of cars that are coming XD

Cant wait to get that . In black with tan leather :drool::drool::drool:

Wow, this game is great fun to have a fang around the island with. When I get it I probably won't end up racing for ages and ages.
TDU gets much better with the aids turned off completely, makes everything feel more interesting, the Ferrari is hugely idiot-proof up to a point whereupon you really to need to think about how you are driving it, the AC is a brutish muscle car capable of massive powerslides and snap oversteer and the Mustang GT is a dumbed-down muscle car, none of the fury and entertainment of the older cars.
I am not liking the bikes though, such a good idea (Superbikes on a tropical island, 1000 miles of roads) but they just don't feel right, the digital control as has been much maligned already and the lack of separate brakes is just annoying.
Still, I can't wait.

I played the 2nd demo again for about 5 more hours and they seem to have most of the bugs worked out now. I had no problem at all finding and joining most of my friends this weekend. 👍

I've found out how to make the bikes steering more responsive:

Go to options then controls. Change the steering sensitivity to the right to make the steering very sensitive or to the left for heavier steering

I've just got to find out how on earth that person managed to send me an invitation...

When you press the A button, your headlights will flash. Do that when you're next to someone, and then you'll send out an invite.

Ah, okay. Thanks. 👍

Somehow you can get multiple people to join. I had a few races where there was more than one person but I wasnt sure how I did it. Any ideas? I know you flash your headlights but how do you get multiple people to race at once like that?

You have to flash your headlights at a group of people to do that. When someone flashes their lights, you cant actually see the lights flash :indiff:

OHHH that makes perfect sense now. Dang that makes it even better knowing that!! I cant wait until the final version comes out!! :dopey:
You can see your headlights flash just not other members.

And then you'll become a Gold member?

Are you still up for creating the GTP club? If we are only allowed 16 drivers we may end up with a few clubs really.

I'll become Gold very soon. I'm currently waiting to see how much work my classes are waiting to dish out on me before then.
Someone else may start a club though. I don't think I'll have much time to do so. However, I will join it if someone would like to set one up since it's also an achievement.:)

Was just playing the new demo of TDU. Was cruising around in the Mustang, found a Lamborghini Miura running around, and I just started racing around/with him without challenging him.

I've been looking for a game like this for a long time. One where I can street race through traffic or just cruise around with another car going fast through traffic. If I can do this in 2-player mode as well, just me and my friend speeding through traffic, ooooh yeah. Can't wait for it to come out. 👍

^I love cruising around with the light blue murcialago in either the balck or red 289 or the red or white f430.So much fun.^

I played the new demo yesterday and I'm still not convinced. IMO the island looks rather boring, most of the streets could be right where you are or 20 miles south or 10 miles north. Of course I know that so far there is only a small part of the island, but .... And then the steering. With or without driving aids, imo this is the poorest handling of all 360 racing games ( PGR3/NFSMW( Tokyo Highway Battle 10, RR6 not counting ). Ok I'm a fanboy of TXR 10, but I don't see why this game should even come close...but I know that many of you will love that game experiene in TD

This is an old reviews demo you know Max, so you're yet to play the true finished product.

Well I doubt that the final product will be much better. Maybe there are some graphical improvements here and there, but the handling and the game structure won't change. I tell you sth, I don't like the open game structure and that I can't properly tune my cars ( or at all?). It is too free and open for me, I want a
game which forces me to do certain things, that is my motivation. That's why I didn't like the fact that I could almost use every car in GT4 in any race, with 150 hp or 750 hp, racing against the same opponents...but that's another story...

If this is what you call crappy handling, then I say keep it. It'll make it soooo much easier to win races online with these kids who go over hills instead of braking.

You have silver and your able to play guys who are free roaming online. Does that mean you wont need gold to play this online?

You can play the demo online with Silver membership, but not the full game. It's so Silver members can experience what they're missing out on without the Gold and hopefully buy Gold as a result.

Oh well the handling is not the major problem imo, I am used to all kind of different handling varieties from over a hundred racing games I own... my problem is the game structure as described above, the car selection and the lack of tuning ( still don't know if there is at least limited tuning possible )...
But hey, nobody said I have to like the game, many of you obviously do and I am the last to say, that you can't have a lot fun with this game. Owning PGR3, NFSMW, Ridge Racer 6 and Shutokou Battle 10 I have to say however, that this one seems to be the weakest. That is my impression and I just want to say this for those who didn't play the game, but are interested. There is a lot of hype and not everybody likes this game. That's all...

You can tune the engine and things like that. I saw a tuning shop when I was driving around the island. I dont want any of those stupid spoilers or bumpers though. They just reck the game IMO

Well that would at least be something... Does anybody have articles in a preview or review about tuning in TD ?

I saw something on the previous pages. Let me just find it there........

Edit: I couldnt find anything, but I found a preview on gamespy:

Don't call Test Drive Unlimited an "MMO." That was the first thing that was driven home to me when I stopped in for a look at Test Drive Unlimited at a recent Atari pre-E3 event. Eden Studios, the minds behind the V-Rally series as well as Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, are calling the latest in the venerable racing series "M.O.O.R." or "Massively Open Online Racing." In the end, however, it probably doesn't matter what you call it. If you're at all interested in driving a massively overpriced hunk of metal through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world while throwing it in the face of the chumps eating your dust, you'll be interested.

Test Drive Unlimited takes place in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. According to the Eden Studios demonstrator at the event, the Test Drive Unlimited team thought long and hard about where to set the game. They wanted to avoid the usual driving clichés, like the California coastline. Instead they chose Oahu for the variety of interesting driving challenges that had yet to be represented in a driving game. More than a mere representation though, the team has managed to translate reams of topographic and landmark data into an accurate representation of more than 1,000 miles of Oahu's roads, coastlines, mountains, and rugged natural terrain. In fact, one of the most enjoyable parts in my own demonstration was when I got to take a $300,000 Ferrari off-road and through miles of jungle -- something that even now is giving a car executive somewhere in Italy heart palpitations.

Test Drive: Unlimited is a bit more than just a racing simulator, though. As an MMO (or an M.O.O.R.), players will be driving these roads with thousands of other players at the same time on a PC or an Xbox360 (it's unclear at this time whether both platforms will be able to play together). That makes Test Drive: Unlimited more of a "Racing Lifestyle Simulator." Players begin with enough money to purchase a house and one moderately priced car. They can then begin roaming the island in search of challenges. Throughout the island there are static racing challenges that offer a variety of rules, prizes, and entry restrictions. Winning races nets players a certain amount of cash money. Money is then used to upgrade the player's lifestyle with ever bigger and better toys with which to displays one's driving prowess.

Upgrades available include new homes. Multiple houses will be a necessity because the player can only own as many cars as they have garage space for. They can also outfit their on-screen avatar with a variety of custom clothing from brand name designers like Ben Sherman and Mark Ecko. Mostly, though, money will be for cars, cars, and more cars -- along with the occasional motorcycle. The game sports more than 125 licensed vehicles including models from Lamborghini, Ducati, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Saleen, Shelby, and Jaguar. Tuning freaks will also appreciate the ability to add actual aftermarket parts in order to tweak their rides for maximum speed. Even better, if the game doesn't have what the player wants, the team plans to upgrade the game once a month with new downloadable goodies.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this "racing lifestyle simulator" though is that for all the pre-made challenges available in the game, it'll be the players themselves that will provide most of the game's content. The game supports guild -- er -- "team" formation and includes a variety of management tools to help organize them. Teams can also define their own race course challenges using a waypoint-and-map system, set entry fees and class requirements, set up ladders and tournaments, and run their own competitions online. It should be interesting to see what sort of events players come up with, but I'm pulling for a "Sumo competition" where two cars try to push each other off Diamond Head. Test Drive Unlimited is scheduled to say "Aloha" to gamers in September of 2006.

The underlined bit might be of interest to you

Thx GJB93, well we will see to what degree we can tune the cars. No optical tuning I assume, but still it would be interesting how much better a car can get in the tuning shop. You know, more like 20% better or 100% better. Suspension, brakes etc or just engine ? Different sound ? We will see. I didn't read anything in reviews of it so far, so I wonder if it really plays an important role.
But I am happy that there is at least any kind of tuning....
