I rented this game over the weekend. Here's a brief overview of my time with this game:
* The game is absolutely immersive. It has some elements of Grand Theft Auto with (recent) Need for Speed. GTA in the form of going about in a completely open space and (obviously) recent Need for Speed games for street racing. One of the coolest things about this game is that you can rent some of the faster cars for either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. How do you think I enjoy the experience of the Ford GT early? The cars look amazing, and so do their interiors. You can actually sit inside these cars and still get the same feeling most sports car afficionados have- "I want this car!"
* I have two cars at present. My first car was a dark blue Saturn Sky. My other car is the latest Mustang GT. I use the Mustang GT a bit more because it's faster. Funny enough, the Sky and Mustang have about the same level of handling. I do think the latest Mustang can be quite agile (maybe from my GT4 version). I'm the president of Club E. I had the first house, but stepped up to one of the bigger and better houses. Any racing game that allows you to exchange stuff for bigger and better cars and items is always a great thing to be able to do.
* This is just a straight-up old-school racer. Old-school in the sense of no illegal street racing (for example, drivers who talk like they're hard asses trying to knock you off the road). I think Need for Speed can still do what they are doing with their illegal street racing, just not make it like a traditional street racing game with 'hoods and racing for respect. I still think that maybe NFS could be more like TDU. The game just has an amazing sense of immersion. And don't even get me started on the showroom and realtors. You have realistic, believable showrooms. Just amazing. I don't wish Gran Turismo to be completely like this, but it would be interesting if you had a massive showroom where you could see and be in all the cars.
* Finally, I'm not an online gamer, so I won't comment on that. The game seems to ask you before starting if you want to go online. Almost as if the game has a solid single-player that only gets better online. I respect that. I still have a classical view of gaming in which multiplayer is always secondary or even optional. Never let a multiplater-required interface ruin or undermine the element of single player. I'm sure I'll meet several other car fans with their awesome rides.
All in all, this was an amazing experience. I take back any sort of negative comments on someone saying that this game is the biggest leap in racing games since Gran Turismo. Just real sad I didn't get to rent this any earlier.
