maybe when you buy the car you have to select if you want a 5spd/6spd or auto?

I hope so...

I really think there's GOT to be a way to get a manual. It just wouldn't make sense at all to release it without that option. A lot of people will be extremely disappointed.

Hmm as asked earlier. If there is no manual mode, then what action is used for the R2/L2 buttons?

Well Atari created TDU as well as the Driver series.
In the driver games the L2/R2 buttons are used to look left, right, and backwards (like in GTA)... so maybe they've done the same for TDU.

Nope, I will tell you the controls if you like:
L1 + R1 : Rear View
R2: Change view
L1: View left
R1: View right
R3 + L3: Back to track
R3: Minimap zoom
Left analog: Steering
Right analog: look left/right
L2: [hold] horn/ [tap] lights
Triangle: Enter challenge or location
Square: Brake/reverse
Circle: Hand brake
START: Pause menu
SELECt: Map
Right directional key: Toggle TCS
Up directional key: Open windows
Down directional key: Radio
Left directional key: Freeride players/Close window
So there you go all the controls...now if you don't mind I am off to play TDU......:)

Hmm, IMO there are some controls which should really be switched or replaced. Are you able to customize them?

The game has NO Manual transmittion? Geez, that's seriously a huge let down. I was really looking forward to tossing an Aston Martin around some windy roads, listening to the sound of the engine... and changing gears!.
I also can't drive without using Manual, but I'll just pretend it's another Driver game :sly:

Edit: What have taken the L2 and R2 spots then?

yea, too bad there's NO manuell tranny. Especially for me :nervous:
but anyways, L2 is set for Headlights Turn on/off and R2 is changing camera view!
And holding L2 for like 2 seconds is the horn

No you can't but don't put that against it. I finally got one of my many dream cars! Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and then took it to the peak of the island, took it up to 200+ and throughly enjoyed it. Right then time to check out some more dealers! :)

Theres no reason for this version of the game not to have manual, in the XB360 version the option I think is in the game setting when you pause the game.

No one answered if you can start the cars ignition like you can on the 360 version???

like speedster502 said, no starting ignition.

did you guys realise how huge that island is? i just had a look around!~DAYUM :D huge place.

cool thing, i'm now amateur and i won 2 cars! Merc. Benz CLK DTM and Shelby GT500 w00t!!:D

does anybody actually race/drive with the cockpitview? i personally dont. i use the cam from behind. i just cruise with cockpit view

I use bumper cam. Hey Chris are you online on TDU if so whats your usename and would you like to meet up? I also have the CLK DTM, AC 498 (Or something like that, you get that when you become a pro), Lambo Gallardo Spyder, Lotus Exige 240R, Mercedes SLK AMG Package and a Nardo roadster that I am renting. Gonna sell the SLK though isn't as good as I wanted it to be. Yeh I agree the island is huge it took me about 1hr to drive around the edge of it. I was also stopping off at every dealership.

i would love to come online but i got the old ps2 without an adapter. I'm gonna ask my neighbour/best friend, he got the new slim line and he barly plays with it, so i might can borrow his and give him mine for a while.

Yep, what's the point using R1/L1 (View right/left) when you can do the same with right analog?? I think cruising is also very annoying, because the engine is constantly screaming...I hate the automatic gearbox:grumpy:

i got a question, how can i sell a car? i'm just at "home" and in my "garage" and i cant seem to find a SELL button or anything. Or do i have to go to the dealer and sell it there or how does that work out?

Dammit all i really want to do is remap throttle and brake to the right analogue and have an option to change the brightness ingame.

After searching around on Google, it seems that the Playstation 2 version might have manual afterall.

This was a hint submitted by Atari for the Playstation 2 game:
"Using manual transmission allows you to perform better."
http://www.gamesradar.com/us/ps2/game/cheats/cheats.jsp?releaseId=20070116161126542096

Plus, I can't find anywhere else online that is talking about the lack of manual transmissions. Can the people who have the game look a bit more into the options menu and stuff and try to find a setting to change to manual?

Anyone have definite confirmation that this game doesn't have a manual transmission option? I've googled it and couldn't come up with an answer. I'll probably need to cancel before Monday, 'cause my game is supposed to ship out on Tuesday.

Yeah, I seen that when I was trying to find out last night. Man, I sure hope it has a manual transmission option. This really is a deciding factor in whether I get the game or not.

There is no manual transmission option, for sure. You can't change any controller configuration and at the buttons map none of the buttons has the ability to change gears.

Ya but they also have tips for motorcycles in that section. Possibly they just transfered the tips for the Xbox 360 into the PS2 section without any corrections.

Thanks for the confirmation, man.

Damn, what a huge disappointment. And to think I waited this long for this game to come out and they release it incomplete? I'm usually not one to gripe about stuff too much, but man, this sure is a disappointment. :grumpy:

EDIT: Pre-order is now cancelled.

told you guys, i was so shocked when i couldnt find the manuell tranny option. I checked the option menus for an entire HOUR and couldnt find it.

so anyways, i still didnt figure out how to sell a car. anybody help?:)

I don't think you can sell them in your garage. I can completely understand why you guys are un-happy about no manual transmission but don't let you be put off by this it is a marvellous game.
Just an update of how I am going on this now: Well I am working my way up to the Koenigsegg CCR money so I can have one of these excellent cars. I am currently a pro with around 600,000 credits. My current house is way too small need a new one will be buying a new house after I have brought the Koenigsegg. The current cars I have are: Mercedes CLK DTM, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, AC 489, Lotus Exige 240R, Mercedes SLK AMG Package. Well thats all for now.

I can understand why some of you are upset about no manual, I does as some realism and fun to the game but I personally would never use it so it doesn't bother me.... I'm really bad with manual on games (funny because I drive and real life manual fine!) and this may be a shock to some of you but all my racing games I have only ever used auto.... like for example NFSHP2 and GT4..... ALL AUTO, I cannot do manual at all on the DS2!!! I just want to accelerate and brake especially in a game like test drive where I would probably have alot of fun just cruising and going for a drive...

Not having a manual takes a huge amount of the fun out of it for me. I, too, am VERY shocked that they left it out. It blows my mind. If someone would have told me 3 months ago that TDU for PS2 wouldn't have a manual transmission, I would have laughed at them and bet them 50 bucks that it would.

Looks like I would have lost.

I got this yesterday, an i think it's really good, the lack of manual transmission is a disapointment, but if it did would we be able to change gear ourselves like in a McMerc SLR? (like in gt4) i have a Shelby Mustang in grey, a Bayside Blue R34, a yellow Gallardo Spyder and an Alfa GT :D

this doesn't sound good at all...:grumpy:

I am still going to rent it to see if I like it tho. I'm still praying for some reason they will have a manual option in the US/CANADA realease...

So how does the Photomode work in this version, and what Photomode transfer options are there.
